what about the Blue Sky EXO 2.1? they arent computer speakers and arent and are small monitors but have a woofer which is what i want. i think the amp is in the woofer or the control panel.

Look at the price! I think the Logitech Z-2300's will do me fine.

If you want good sounding speakers to put on your desk and connect to your computer " I wouldnt wanna call them computer speakers but they are "

Go with Audioengine A2's Just read the reviews below :

For not having a sub they sound awesome and you wont find a better speaker for the money. These little guys are handmade and use 0 off the shelf parts.

Great sounds not going to come from a plastic housed speaker thats for sure.

2nd choice would be the AEGO M's without a doubt I looked into those as well but were hard to find in the USA plus for the money I could of got the Audioengine A5's

I can recommend the Swan M200MKII.

Compared to various Logitech, Altec, BOSE and Klipsch models I've had before, these are easily the best. Not sure if you want a sub, I specifically didn't.

The Audioengine A2 are supposedly very good, I haven't heard them. However, the Swan M200MKII is in a different category. Its rival is the Audioengine A5.

Yeah, I'd prefer to have a sub. Then the satellites are smaller which is good because my desk is quite small. I also like base as I listen to a lot of rock music and stuff.

Those swans look nice and for $189 thats a great price. If you are looking for something with a sub I would look at the AEGO's posted earlier but if you get a chance to hear Audioengines you will love them and probably the same for the swans.

Even though they don't have an external sub, the Swans have a 5" woofer in each speaker which handles mid to low frequencies. They sound amazing. Keep in mind, though, that they are rather large and heavy at 15 lbs *each*.

For comparison, the Audioengine A2's have a 2.75" woofer, while the Audioengine A5's also have a 5" woofer.

The problem with the Swan's is that the sub has to on the desk and I haven't got the room for that. The Audio-engines are not available in the UK so I can't get them. I've heard that the AEGO M's don't have much base either, so, for me I think the best option is the Logitech Z-2300's.

The AEGO M's may not have the boomy bass that the logitechs have but I believe they are in a totally diff league when it comes to sound quality.

Mind you there is a huge price diff between the two, I would say weight your options and choose what is right for you.

Logitech for price / sheer bass
AEGO's for sound quality.

Have you heard them both? The Aego M's look solid and if they sound better than the Logitech Z-2300's, then I'll get them.

Personally I have not heard the AEGO's as they are hard to find in the USA but from reviews and stuff I have read
( they were one of the few I was looking at )

They are some of the best. For the money logitechs will win hands down but for sound quality I hear the AEGO's are awesome.

Think about it this way :

Audioengine & AEGO just makes speakers this is all they make and specialize in.

Logitech makes anything from webcams / mice / keyboards to speakers. They are an all around everything brand but not necessarily a speaker company.

Yeah I think I'll go with the Aego M's. They look like a solid piece of kit, much better than the plasticky case on the Logitech's.

I don't think you will be let down they look amazing and supposedly sound the same :)

What colour do you reckon I should get to match the 24" iMac? I'm properly going to get silver, In pictures they look good with the iMac.

Also, is the sub shielded so it won't damage electrical equipment around it? Will it be safe to put the sub under my desk?

Yes - that headphone jack is also an optical digital output. This plug goes in, and uses the optical digital (SPDIF) - that's the only way you're going to get digital / surround out of the imac.

I've been using this exact setup for over 3 years now. (wow) It's been great.

I can vouch for this - I'm using the Z-5500's as well, and the sound is fantastic. Be sure you use the optical "cord" as well.

You can leave the black covers off of the speakers and go with the silver look to match the iMac as well.

And yes, I have the subwoofer under my desk and don't have any trouble with it.

The sub & components are shielded and I was planning on ordering the silver ones, They look great and are made from real aluminum not plastic.

They match the build quality in your nice iMac.

I would definitely recommend the AE Aego M's. All in all, for about £110 they can't be beaten :) (pm me if you want to know who I got them from in the UK)

I was looking to get the Aego M's as well a while back, didn't buy them cause of a lack of money at the time, but seeing as its coming up to christmas, may treat myself. Btw jgdawes, you haven't allowed the option to pm you or email you. So to him or the op, which place sells these speakers the cheapest?

Read what I posted earlier. You can get better than Aego M's. Also they dont come in silver. White or black.

Definitely go for the Logitech. I have the 2200's with my 24" iMac and love them. They are a good bang for the buck and match cosmetically.

Another option, I just put together an in home production room with Mackie's powered monitors, the MR8's. They are a bit pricey, but bang for buck, for powered speakers, dedicated computer speakers (logitech) cannot compare.

Check out the MR5's. Phenomenal sound for the price. Everything from games to music.

Someone mentioned Klipsch earlier too. I had their ProMedia setup for years and it rocked! Might be worth checking into.

The other idea....get a cheap Dolby Digital receiver. You can get incredible home theater receivers right now for nickels. Everyone is dropping theirs for HDMI. Buy a decent little Denon receiver and a pair of home, bookshelf monitors. Your sound will CRUSH your buddies rigs! Seriously:)

I had a paper route too, about 13-14. What a cool deal, saving up for the gear you want. Doing it right the first time! Check out the receivers and see what you can pick up locally on craigslist. Then pick up a pair of B&W 602 series 2 or 3 from ebay. BAM! You're up and Rockin!

Don't EVER buy Bose...>Better sound through Research! Friends don't let friends buy Bose...Bose Blows! No Highs, No Lows, MUST be Bose! Much better deals for your hard earned money.

The cool thing about buying good, solid, used gear is that it will retain it's value. A good pair of speakers should last you 10-20 years. You could use them in your college dorm down the road.

Do it right the first time!

Jer

I dont care for you anti bose attitude, but it doesn't change that fact that with a budget of up to £300, you can get alot better than Aego M's.

Well, I don't really want to spend that much. I was going to spend that much but now I don't think it will really be worth it. I'm going to buy the Aego M's.
