If you want good sounding speakers to put on your desk and connect to your computer " I wouldnt wanna call them computer speakers but they are "
No, those I'd call "active speakers" –*even though "computer speakers" are active speakers as well.

My "computer speakers" (lol, well, they're actuall pro near-field monitors with an external amp pack – in effect making them into active speakers) are the Avi Neutron IV:

Danny, sounds like you want everything for nothing.

you want great sound, loud, look good, no clutter and you dont want to spend too much money.

...I say get a pair of headphones. That will work for you.

Good sound is something that comes with some comprimises. Either you will be out money, space or appearance. If you dont want to spend money, then you can get good sound but it might be ugly or big. If you want great looks and nice sound and not so big, then chances are you will be out some money.

If you haven't purchase yet, Contour has an excellent point. You can buy a phenomenal pair of Headphones for the price of just a mid range end of active (computer) speakers. Grado, Senheisser, and the Sony 7509HD (what I use:), 7506 for less than a C-note, just to name a few. Your choice, but something to SERIOUSLY consider. With additional "Surround Steering" software, DD Headphone, etc, you can get some amazing sound from a good pair of cans. Down the road, build up with a dedicated HP amp, etc. Upgrade within the same line, as you enjoy the sound. HPs are awesome, and a perfect substitution for speakers if you aren't able to spend a ton.

You want to scare the BeJesus out of yourself? Play an eerie first person shooter at 2am with a good pair of cans on;)

Here are another couple to check out

The Audioengine A2's

Also, the Axiom Audios

Sweet active speakers.

For grins, check out Dynaudio's lineup of active monitors. I spent several hours in Guitar Center (Seattle, downtown) listening to a couple of Dyn's choices for studio monitoring. You can spend several thousand dollars on active monitors and there is a law of diminishing returns.

If You are living in Europe you should have access to some of the world's best speakers! Seriously! Take a look (listen) around...and save a bit of money. No need to end up like me....with 3 or 4 pairs (sets of 5) speakers laying around that serve no purpose!

Take care

Step 1: get a Decco amp http://www.signalpathint.com/index.php/decco/decco.html ($800) This will provide the power to run your speakers and clean up the sound.

Step 2: get pretty much any pair of nice speakers you want... something like the ascend sierra ($850/pair) http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/products/speakers/SRM1/srm1.html

Step 3: heaven.

Or if you want something larger and simpler get a pair of Martin Logan Purity speakers http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-P...5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227523299&sr=8-5

You can just hook up your ipod or imac directly to these and be blown away.

For the lower budget crowd the $200 deal on the Swan M200MkII can't be beat.

I found these to be a lot better than the Purity line, at least from hearing them.

Whoah dudes. I'm just looking for some affordable good sounding small speakers, not a whole huge home cinema thing. Them speakers are massive! There's no way I would be able to fit them in my tiny bedroom LOL.:)
