I've been reading this thread with interest, since I'm going to be moving from an SE (first-gen) to a 13 Pro this weekend. I have about 30 Google Authenticator accounts (mostly for work) and don't want to have to re-enter all of them. I found this https://support.google.com/accounts...=,transfer-authenticator-codes-to-a-new-phone which appears to be a way of exporting/importing them in bulk. Will give this a try, but would love to hear from anyone who has done it!

Any suggestions for transferring over from Android? Switching to an iPhone for the first time and curious as to the best way to get important things moved over.

Daringfireball recommends restoring wirelessly from your older phone.

"Also, you do not need to unpair your Apple Watch from your old iPhone using this method. You can just wear your watch the whole time. When the transfer is complete, the new iPhone will prompt you, asking if you want to move your watch to the new iPhone."

Transfering the iWatch settings didn't work.
Had to setup the iWatch again.

Upgraded from an 8 Plus to the 13 Pro. Didn't want to bulkiness of the Pro Max which was more fitting of the 8 Plus but something relatively smaller now.
Otherwise, followed the transfer settings for the direct device to device transfer and, for the most part, it worked. But had to tweak the settings somewhat since it didn't transfer over properly.
Now have to transfer files like music/audiobooks manually.

If you use 3rd party software, esp. any iTunes alternative, make sure you update it so it recognizes iOS 15 and the new iPhone 13 models.
iTunes is an old, cumbersome beast but it still works for file transfers.

"If you want to get a peek at your battery percentage from anywhere on your phone, it’s as simple as swiping down from the top-right corner to show the Control Center. On previous iPhones, there was an easy option located in the Settings app on the Battery settings page, which let you permanently display the battery percentage on the screen. That option was removed with the iPhone X."

That is not a good start!
Now to learn the new features in the newer iPhone.

Ok fortunately or unfortunately at 5 past hour preorder I got bumped/slipped to 10/6 to 10/11 delivery so have time but I am forgetting which apple ID am to use in phone to phone transfer. I am one of those long time apple folks still with old apple ID that is one word rather than email. Now apples attempts recently to merge that now have my iCloud email as overarching apple ID but all — I repeat all my apps, music, videos, TV s hows are thru the old original single word apple ID I still use to update, install new software.

So my question is do I need ot use that original one word ID that I use for all my software, music and such as the apple id I use to transfer directly from phone to phone that is what I recall but it was so easy do not remember what I did last year LOL

Thanks for any feedback. Above is my appleID/iCloud preferences on phone and ipad. The top circled (but blanked out) is the overall iCloud ID that goes to everything but my subscriptions and media and purchases (bottom two circles that are blanked out which is that old single word Apple ID. I do recall when updating iphones and such from saved backup of old device that this later ID of single word is the one I use in that process when opening the phone after the restore from backup so I am assuming that is what I need to do for phone to phone transfer???

I posted this on another forum as well, but thought it might get more traffic here....

Is there any way to transfer my data from my iPhone 12 to iPhone 13 without having to redownload all of my songs in Apple Music? I have terrible reception in my office so I need to actually download the music to listen to it at work. Every time I upgrade, it takes a couple of weeks to complete..since, you know, I have a life and have to do other stuff also...

iOS 15 has built-in Two Factor Authentication, if that helps.

Has anyone been able to successfully transfer an existing esim from an iPhone 12 to iPhone 13 without a prolonged tech support call/chat with Verizon?

The automatic transfer of eSim doesn't seem to be supported.
Finding someone at Verizon who knows how to do this seems has been difficult

So at what stage do you swap the sim over?
After I transferred all the data/apps (about 10 minutes for me), my new iphone restarted and told me it didn't have a sim card. At that point, I swapped.

If you are doing wireless phone to phone, it will automatically use the AppleID the phone is setup with.
In my case I have AppleID_Phone and Apple ID_Store (example ID’s).
It took my AppleID_Phone for the setup, only asked for my device password and mid transfer asked for the password for AppleID_Store in order to download the correct apps.

Very painless.

Thanks that’s sort of what I remembered with the 12 ProMax but it was a year ago

Do I need to update my old iPhone (12 Pro) to iOS 15 before doing the direct phone-to-phone transfer?

IIRC if you are restoring from backup, it will only let you restore from that backup if it is from the same iOS version, for obvious reasons. I'd prefer avoiding taking the time updating to iOS 15 on my old device, but better safe than sorry, I guess...

I am curious as my 13 ProMax 1TB is an AT&T model ordered from Apple preorder day on 17 but not arriving for another week or so at 5 past my delivery slipped before the order was completed. Reading these phones are going to esim mode. And seeing Verizon folks with issues any AT&T folks here with new phones. Any problem with activation other than usual busy issues on opening day. Wondering if Apple set up our esim’s and will work just like days of physical sim’s?

I was finally able to get eSim transferred.

1. Update your iPhone 13 OS ( not sure if this is needed but they may ask )
2. Give them the IMEI2 ( eSim )
3. They may ask for ICCID but they generate that on their end ( so you won't find one on your About screen ) -- your next step is they send you a bar code - I don't think the bar code is still required. I knew something was working because my iPhone 12 suddenly gave a message about LTE being disabled by Verizon. Once that happened I also received a message to click to set up a new plan on my iPhone 13. I clicked through ( even though I was worried it was going to set up a brand new account ). Within two or three minutes everything was provisioned and I powered off and on and was able to make a call and message.

I’m just going with a clean install. It’s slower overall but at least I get to control the order so the things I need are there first.
The only problem with clean installs is things like stickers or apps that aren't available anymore won't be available, even if you still use them on your current device. If you transfer, it keeps them. That might not be an issue for you, but I was bummed when I found some of the stuff that I was using didn't show up on my fresh install.

The best BY FAR (imo) is encrypted backup to my Mac and restore to the new iPhone. Fast, reliable, no app accounts missed.
I was thinking of doing this as well. If it get's all of your passwords, is there any downside to doing this vs the migration tool? Seems like if you have a computer handy with enough space that it seems like this would be a much faster way to move to a new phone...

None and its 10x faster. Did both iPhones yesterday and was done each in about 20 minutes start to finish.

Thank you! I’m actually giving my kid my old iPhone 12. I assume I need to turn off find my iPhone and then factory reset before using her phone 10 backup to restore?

I upgraded from an iPhone 11 to 13 on T-Mobile. I pre-ordered directly from apple and it came Friday evening. The upgrade process was as smooth as I could ask for. As a product manager, I have to say I’m impressed. The new phone was ready with my current phone number provisioned… I transferred data from my iPhone 11 by placing the phone next to it. When everything was transferred (took maybe 15 minutes)… the 11 asked me if I wanted to wipe and erase to factory (perfect for me since I’m trading it in). The 13 was ready to go. No calls or hassles dealing w T-Mobile at all.

Then I went to the T-Mobile upgrade promotion web site and entered in the needful to get the $200 in bill credits (I’m on the old 2 lines unlimited everything for $100/mo) - should be applied in 6-8 weeks.

Then my apple trade in box should be here in a few days.

Very easy.

One great outcome for me was that the side-by-side transfer method allowed all of my music to be transferred - even the albums/songs I had ripped from CDs. Previously I had to use a third party app (e.g. iMazing) to transfer the music from a backup on my MacBook. The whole process took 45 minutes and was seamless. Well done Apple.

Process worked but I have a storage issue...commented in another a thread. So am resetting and going back to restoring from backup
