"Also, you do not need to unpair your Apple Watch from your old iPhone using this method. You can just wear your watch the whole time. When the transfer is complete, the new iPhone will prompt you, asking if you want to move your watch to the new iPhone."Daringfireball recommends restoring wirelessly from your older phone.

My Advice on How to Set Up a New iPhone or iPad: Quick Start Device-to-Device Transfer

iOS 15 has built-in Two Factor Authentication, if that helps.I've been reading this thread with interest, since I'm going to be moving from an SE (first-gen) to a 13 Pro this weekend. I have about 30 Google Authenticator accounts (mostly for work) and don't want to have to re-enter all of them. I found this https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1066447?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform=iOS#zippy=,transfer-authenticator-codes-to-a-new-phone which appears to be a way of exporting/importing them in bulk. Will give this a try, but would love to hear from anyone who has done it!
So at what stage do you swap the sim over?
After I transferred all the data/apps (about 10 minutes for me), my new iphone restarted and told me it didn't have a sim card. At that point, I swapped. So at what stage do you swap the sim over?
Very cool - did not know that. Not sure it will help much for me, since I am logging in on my laptop (not my phone) but it's great that they have done that!iOS 15 has built-in Two Factor Authentication, if that helps.
View attachment 1845111Ok fortunately or unfortunately at 5 past hour preorder I got bumped/slipped to 10/6 to 10/11 delivery so have time but I am forgetting which apple ID am to use in phone to phone transfer. I am one of those long time apple folks still with old apple ID that is one word rather than email. Now apples attempts recently to merge that now have my iCloud email as overarching apple ID but all — I repeat all my apps, music, videos, TV s hows are thru the old original single word apple ID I still use to update, install new software.
So my question is do I need ot use that original one word ID that I use for all my software, music and such as the apple id I use to transfer directly from phone to phone that is what I recall but it was so easy do not remember what I did last year LOL
Thanks for any feedback. Above is my appleID/iCloud preferences on phone and ipad. The top circled (but blanked out) is the overall iCloud ID that goes to everything but my subscriptions and media and purchases (bottom two circles that are blanked out which is that old single word Apple ID. I do recall when updating iphones and such from saved backup of old device that this later ID of single word is the one I use in that process when opening the phone after the restore from backup so I am assuming that is what I need to do for phone to phone transfer???
uggg thats not good. I am still waiting on my phone to be delivered, but I use esim with verizon so sounds like I will be in the same boat.Has anyone been able to successfully transfer an existing esim from an iPhone 12 to iPhone 13 without a prolonged tech support call/chat with Verizon?
The automatic transfer of eSim doesn't seem to be supported.
Finding someone at Verizon who knows how to do this seems has been difficult
Thanks that’s sort of what I remembered with the 12 ProMax but it was a year agoIf you are doing wireless phone to phone, it will automatically use the AppleID the phone is setup with.
In my case I have AppleID_Phone and Apple ID_Store (example ID’s).
It took my AppleID_Phone for the setup, only asked for my device password and mid transfer asked for the password for AppleID_Store in order to download the correct apps.
Very painless.
I was finally able to get eSim transferred.uggg thats not good. I am still waiting on my phone to be delivered, but I use esim with verizon so sounds like I will be in the same boat.
The only problem with clean installs is things like stickers or apps that aren't available anymore won't be available, even if you still use them on your current device. If you transfer, it keeps them. That might not be an issue for you, but I was bummed when I found some of the stuff that I was using didn't show up on my fresh install.I’m just going with a clean install. It’s slower overall but at least I get to control the order so the things I need are there first.
I was thinking of doing this as well. If it get's all of your passwords, is there any downside to doing this vs the migration tool? Seems like if you have a computer handy with enough space that it seems like this would be a much faster way to move to a new phone...The best BY FAR (imo) is encrypted backup to my Mac and restore to the new iPhone. Fast, reliable, no app accounts missed.
None and its 10x faster. Did both iPhones yesterday and was done each in about 20 minutes start to finish.I was thinking of doing this as well. Thank you! I’m actually giving my kid my old iPhone 12. I assume I need to turn off find my iPhone and then factory reset before using her phone 10 backup to restore?None and its 10x faster. Did both iPhones yesterday and was done each in about 20 minutes start to finish.
