That's not a bug. The icon appears on the album art top right corner when you select a whole album for offline.

It's so that if you decide you only like a couple songs off that album you can tap those songs and make them offline individually (giving the song the little icon) and then tap the album to remove all the rest you don't like with one button. (Same goes for playlists.) Offline has two layers so you can do that easier without having to delete one by one the songs you don't like from albums/playlists, keeping what you like and removing everything else.

Apple really needs to come out with a full manual, because there is so much misconception about the music app and Apple music flying around. (Between this and not knowing how to shuffle artists, I see so many complaints.)

Here ya go Apple Manuals

I can understand one of these threads on x.0 and x.x release, but it doesn't make any sense on an x.x.x release. Odds are nothing will be known until patch notes appear, and they are most always internal bug fixes.

It doesn't look like beta to me. The build number doesn't have any latters in the end (12H304), there are no notable changes, MUSIC works the same (still buggy), no carrier update as well. I think this is more or less just a jailbreak patch with some possible minor internal bug fixes seeded to developers in advance because Apple is being extremely cautious (just remember the 8.0.1 fiasco). This could be the GM version coming out next week. Just my two cents on this.

All of the 8.4 build numbers looked like that.

As always, be sure to report any and all bugs to bugreport.apple.com (a developer account is not required to do this)

I can't login via this form. Already tried a couple of times in the past when about to report a bug that I encountered..
I don't have a developer account. Site simply reloads when I hit enter to log in. Would you mind helping me troubleshooting? :)
Do you have to be on OSX in order to use that login?
Thx mate :)

Usually, the beta build name is longer with a letter in the end. That's what I meant.

iOS 8.4 beta builds:
  • Beta 1: 12H4074d
  • Beta 2: 12H4086d
  • Beta 3: 12H4098c
  • Beta 4: 12H4125a

In comparison, iOS 8.4 build is 12H143 and iOS 8.4.1 is 12H304, thus the latter could be a GM build.

You could perhaps go to the public beta program site (if you have access to 8 or 9.) At the bottom you should see a link to put on the iOS 8 profile and then use the feedback app. (Or iOS 9 profile (in the "getting started" section near the top) and also get the feedback app.)

Those are not missing and never have been missing in the new music app.

To shuffle an artist (while in the artist list view where you see all the artists) tap the icon to the left of the artist you want to shuffle. It starts playing all songs by that artist. Then pull up the full screen player (large art at top and controls at bottom) and select the shuffle button at the bottom.

Genre is exactly the same. Tap the icon left of the genre name while in genre list view.

(Also same for albums)

Okay, I see that now for artists, but it doesn't work for genres. At least I don't see it. Still, they ought to have an option to shuffle all at the top of any artist view, or genre view, just like they do at the top of an album view. Why makes us go through these hoops?

Less hoops! Because it saves you a step of having to tap into that artist. Explained here

I agree things are pretty hidden. But once you know it's a bit easier. Taking shuffle as an example. If the shuffle all for an artist was at the top of the list within the artist (like you're suggesting.) You would have to find the artist, select the artist and then tap shuffle. The way it is now, you only have to find the artist and tap the icon to its left (if you previously had shuffle enabled in the full screen player it remembers and stays on shuffle.) This saves the step of having to click into the artist and then shuffle (and further saves the step of you wished to shuffle just one album of having to select the artist and then the specific album then shuffle.)

As for the genre. (See image) tap the icon next to the genre name like you do for artists/albums.

Reported the screen wake delay again w/ stackshots. Hopefully they can get it fixed, it's kind of irritating especially when you're so used to the screen coming on immediately after hitting the home button.

I agree. Thanks for reporting it!

Here try and register at this link - https://developer.apple.com/program...ccessReturnPath=/ios/invitation/accept.action
You can register as a free developer which gives you access to the bug reporter. You don't need to be on OS X because I did it and I don't own a Mac. I'm not sure if that's the right link though so let me know if it works or not :).

I disagree on the steps. You don't list having to click the "play next" option after clicking the ... by the artist. So, it seems like it's the same amount of steps. I still think it's more intuitive and clear just to have a shuffle all button at the top like the album view. But alas...

As for genres, this is what I see when I click the dots on a genre. No play next option which as you describe is needed for shuffling all.

I should also mention that if I click a genre, then an album inside of it, it only shuffles that album, not the entire genre.

Don't tap the ". . ." (Three dots.) You're misunderstanding me.

Literally just tap the big square image to the left of the genre name (or artist, or album.)

Image 1 is where to tap in genre list view.
Image 2 is where to tap in artist list view.
Image 3 is where to tap while in artist and viewing thier albums.

This eliminates the step of further having to click into the genre (image 1), artist (image 2), album (image 3) to access shuffle all for each of those. The way you suggest, you would have to tap the genre then shuffle (or artist then shuffle, or album then shuffle) this way it's tap the icon on the left without having to go into each.

Because those songs weren't added through Apple Music by making the whole album available for offline. They were synced to your phone prior to enabling IML.

You can test it. But here are some images. (Image 1 is the album with the icon in the art. Images 2 is selecting 4 songs at random to "keep". Image 3 is removing the rest of the album by selecting remove downloads on the album option.

This of course is with "show music available offline" enabled.
What is IML?

I get what you are saying about removing some songs and being able to keep the ones you want. I wish they would just explain it better!

IML = iCloud Music Library.
But my iCloud music library has always been enabled! They were synced from the iCloud music library. Nowhere does it say "tag this individual track to save if you want to remove the other songs and keep this one only".

It seems pretty black and white to me and I still believe that the icon is supposed to be on each song that is downloaded to the phone and they will hopefully fix it. Before 8.4 there was a little icon with the cloud and an arrow showing you it could be downloaded but hasn't been yet. I think it was much less confusing before!!! Oh and I'm not using Apple music if that makes any difference.

When you make an entire album or playlist available for offline the downloaded icon appears on the album cover (when viewing the track list for that album) or the playlist cover art (when viewing the track list for the playlist.) This is for reasons I explained earlier. IML is new to 8.4 and Apple Music. You may be thinking of iTunes Match, which is slightly different.

Anyways, the downloaded icons are irrelevant if you use the "show music available offline" anyway. Because all you see is what's on the phone and nothing else.
