This reminds me so much how they made fun of iPhone back in 2006/2007. “No one will buy a $600 phone!” “No one I tell you!”

This is a always the cute go to line but its disingenuous as it doesn't tell the whole story. Apple released the 1st iPhone with 4gb for $499 and had an 8gb upgrade for $599. The problem with the above knock is that less than two months later Apple reduced the price of the 8gb model from $599 to $399 while dropping the 4gb model all together. I'd say that's a pretty clear indication that not many were buying $600 iPhones at that time. Nine months after the first price drop they released the 2nd iPhone which AT&T subsidized at $199 and later dropped to $99. I know this because I bought the first iPhone during the initial price drop to $399. The early adopters were not happy at the quick price drop and Steve Jobs himself had to address the issue offering money back for anyone who bought within 14 days of the price drop. If you bought before that you were just out of luck.
My point is that the people who said "no one will buy a $600 iPhone weren't really wrong. I think it's obvious to most that people who say a $3,500 VR headset isn't exactly going to appeal to a mainstream audience won't be wrong either.

I feel it also shows a very superficial level of understanding of how Apple works.

For one, we know this is going to be extremely supply-constrained for the first couple of years at least, due to the limited supply of 4k displays. So if you project that you are going to sell every single unit that you make anyways, there really isn’t any reason for Apple to lower the price any further.

I would be very surprised if amongst Apple’s billion users, they don’t find half a million people willing to pay for one. It will likely play out like the AirPods early on.

Then work in improving supply, bringing the price down and introducing more affordable models to market. All while backing it up with optimised apps, content and ecosystem.

I think we can do a lot better than just dismiss said product outright based on price alone.

Well if there is any company that an get people to buy a product they had no interest in before that products launch it would be Apple. Still, I just don't see it even after the inevitable price drop. I know plenty of grandmas who have an iPhone, Airpods, Apple watch and sometimes even a Mac. I can't imagine any of them buying a Vision Pro even at Meta Quest prices. The mass market appeal that drives Apple's other products just isn't present here. There's also the chicken come before the egg conundrum. What 3rd party app developer wants to invest in the Vision Pro before there are any end users to buy their apps? What end users will want to buy the Vision Pro when there are no 3rd party apps to run on it?

LOL, every time I see that particular model wearing the Vision Pro I think her expression appears bored and resigned, especially the version showing her simulated eyes.

I sincerely hope that VisionOS is like macOS and you can download whatever apps you want. This is far more into computing territory than mobile territory. I hope it operates that way. The whole thing of geared toward “spatial computing”.

We shall see.
I'm sure most would agree if it's a "Computer" then it would be nice if it operated more like a AR/Spacial Mac than an iPad or iPhone strapped to your face.
I'm pretty sure that this is not going to be the case and you will only be able to put Apps onto it via an Apple approved (and 30% cut) style heavily controlled store.
I'd love to be wrong though.

Makes sense that the apps will work for it, makes the app stores more full. But really unless it’s optimized for visionOS it won’t be a great experience I would imagine. So I wonder how many actual apps there will be at launch besides Apple’s.

I would also love for you to be wrong.

Has there been any talk of this at all? Obviously Mac has an App Store, do we know anything about Vision yet?

It just doesn’t make sense to me that a Mac + Apple Studio Display replacement would be limited to more of an iOS device style OS.

This is honestly a deal make or break question for me.

I’ve envisioned this product as a Mac productivity replacement, not a hobby.

Anxiously awaiting more details….

Well, you bring up a good point and these are two different things.

Will the Vision Pro be able to show on virtual screen/s anything you have downloaded onto your Mac, yes I'm sure of that. You will get one of more 2D virtual windows floating in space where you can run and operate your mac software.

However that's just using the Vision Pro as a screen.
When it comes to loading and running actual 3D ? "Spacial VR/AR apps, then that may be a totally different situation where only apps on the Vision Store can do those type of things
