New thingy. Nobodies quite sure what it actually does yet. My guess is that it shoots out xrays and pinpoints movements through skeletal positions.

Other than getting 3D spacial data alongside the bog-standard pointing and tilt.

They say what it does. It makes motion tracking / accelerating much more accurate. Makes it possible to have 1:1 motion controls for what you do and what happens in the game. They just don't say how.

So far I'm disappointed if this is it.

"Remember that thing you bought 2 years that you thought was gonna be awesome, and it turns out it was kinda maybe awesome? Buy this peice of plastic for $29.99 and it will be awesome like you thought it would originally be!"

I'm annoyed at needing another accessory, but 1:1...I can't wait to see the games. I'm expecting a lot of surprise announcements.

1:1 does have a lot of potential but I'm hoping they just pull a Sony; get this new chip inside and charge us for something we should have had from the start  I don't want that block on the end of the Wii controller.

Just in time for Clone Wars. I hope it supports this new block-cessory.

I'm going to buy 2 for each Wiimote, that way I'll get double the 1:1 accuracy.

I bet even with this upgrade, developers will still get it wrong when it comes to golf on the Wii, when Nintendo did such an excellent job with WiiSports.

This kind of reminds me of the extra memory upgrade for the N64. I can see why Nintendo didn't include this originally, the Wimote would have been like $70, probably more. I'm pretty sure that by this time next year, all Wiimotes will have this built-in -- I hope by then the black ones will be available.

This might be a case of Nintendo trying to stay ahead technologically, not unlike Apple releasing new iPods every year to try to make sure competitors don't even come close to catching up in their department. The infrequent turnover of consoles, however, means that Nintendo probably had no choice but to go the attachment route. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they start bundling this in with new remotes sooner or later (as JackAxe suggested).

The real test is going to be the games that support this newfangled attachment. Seems like it's meant for swordfighting, batting and putting.

We'll find out more tomorrow.

EDIT: Not quite grasping the negativity here. It's not like motion-sensitive controls existed in the video game world before the Wii. If Nintendo has greatly improved the accuracy of motion controls with a technological breakthough that wasn't possible two years ago, then how is that bad?

This doesn't compare to Sony removing features (rumble, backwards compatibility) that people have come to expect in their consoles.

Complaints about another accessory are legitimate, but let's not get carried here.

Naw, man. Sony would release this, get people to fork out cash for it for a good bit, then release an entirely 'new' controller with this functionality incorporated into it, adding just enough extra sensitivity or a new color to make you want to buy it all over again. It's like Lucas issuing 16 editions of Star Wars on DVD...milk it, baby.

Still, hope they can back this one up with some games. Wii needs some games to play.

^There gonna have to package those things in with the games that require it. Too much add ons man but I gotta see what it does first before I comment.

Bless

Or perhaps there will be new controllers that don't require the blocks on the end. They'll look the same but they'll be more accurate.

I never know with Nintendo, they like to mark up things.

Yeah, they love marking up things with their "most expensive" console that's cheaper than every other next-gen console. Nintendo just scams people with their "most expensive" games that are $10 less than most other new releases.

Yep, that's Nintendo marking things up.

It's expensive owning a Wii? That's quite a megaton post too!

It's amazing how folk can say stuff like that and they miss the kind of secret bills gaming brings. Such as.

How dare you try to bring facts into this discussion and risk diverting this thread into an intellectual debate about energy policy and conservation?!! :p

Awesome, thanks for the info. Wish it was in the morning, tomorrow is going to be a long day

Yeah I go that email too... they better announce somthing good :)

If they announce another plethora of casual games I think I'll fall into a coma....

I think this new addon all but confirms a waggle device from Sony and MS.
Edit
Just saw the streaming site and it hit me! E3 is tomorrow!!! 0.0
