Thats the issue, the 5S doesn't even have biteSMS or LockInfo working. I want to wait to use it when its all working. The only solution would to be restore from backup when its all working again.

The dev said there should be a beta version of bite for the 5s mid next week. The dev for Lockinfo also said he hopes to have a video soon and then a beta shortly after that. Not sure if that will include the 5s or not. Sounds like that's still weeks away.

Edit: Also, like AppleJuiced said, instal 7.0.4 on your 5s and jailbreak it. Then when you're ready, backup your 5 and then move it to the 5s.

AppleJuiced, that's possible right? I don't want to give bad advice for something like this. Just want to make sure.

Yes, you're on point;)

Ok then I'd restore the 5S to 7.0.4 now and JB it.
Then you can restore your iphone 5 6.1.2 backup to it.

AJ, I might be in the same boat as I'm tempted to go out and buy a factory unlocked 5S and sell my 5. I always thought restoring from a backup was not as clean/good as getting all the data off (if needed for archiving) and starting from scratch. Heck, I've even added apps back one at a time to insure there was no conflict with the jailbreak. :)

Also, after updating and jailbreaking my iPad 3, I noticed I now have to update iTunes to 11.1.3 as I'm still running 10.7 (because it's so much better). How bad does the new iTunes suck?

I am the same way. I like to restore as new just in case there's any bugs or issues that might copy over from the old phone or old backup. I just copy my contacts to icloud and then copy them over to the new phone or new ios version.
I like your one at a time JB hacks installation approach too. It can help you identify if anything is incompatible and easier to find what caused what.
About the iTunes version you can install the latest one. I haven't noticed any issues with it and its safe for JB purposes also.

This is my approach too. Been doing it like this fir quite a while now. It's the best practices approach for sure.

This is where my issue is. What if when I'm ready to move to my 5S and 7.0.5 is out? Will it ask me to update when I move all my info from my i5 to my i5S?

Ok, totally weird question for me, usually I'm pretty good at this stuff... any way I can keep my app data around when updating? I'm on 6.1 something now, have all my app saves and such, can these be transferred over if I do a full restore?

Many Thanks, AJ!

You mean if you've already jailbroken your 5S and later you are ready to migrate the data from your 5? If so, the current release of the iOS has nothing to do with whether you Restore From Backup.

iExplorer is a good solution for moving over data.

I don't understand. My 5S came with 7.0.3. I upgraded to newest software using iTunes a month ago on 7.0.4 and jailbreak works fine. Does it work faster if I restored on 7.0.4?

Completely lost.

Thank you! That's what I've been trying to ask: if restoring from a backup will make me update the iOS on my iPhone 5S.

I think applejuiced was trying say that the 2 would occur together.

I used OTA from 7 to 7.0.4 and it worked fine...

No.
I told you restoring from backup doesn't update your iOS. Just puts your previous settings and data on the phone.

I like to use data deposit for all my app and game saves.
Not 100% if it works on iOS 7 yet.

If it's jb now and works ok you can just leave it.
But they advise for a better and bug free experience to jb after a complete restore by using iTunes.

I would be cautious with back ups and this jailbreak. Didn't have an issue with iOS 6 JB, this time not so much.

This is on an iPad 4. Last night I backed it up then did a DFU restore to remove the old jailbreak.

Then I installed the JB, however, once I restored my backup info, Cydia icon disappeared.

I then did another DFU restore, did my back up then JB. Then it went into boot loop after a shutdown.

Best way, as others have stated is to do a clean DFU restore, set up as new, JB then have iCloud bring you data over then reinstall you apps.

Does this mean that those of us that are on 7.1 Beta 2 need to downgrade back to 7.0.4? This is for an iPhone 5 btw not a 5S.

Had the same thing happen to me on my ipad 2 last night. Were you using the latest evasi0n (1.0.2)? If you do a search, there's a lot of people seeing this issue on their ipads where after they jailbreak then restore, their cydia icon disappears. Right now the best workaround is what you described: restore in dfu, restore backup, THEN jailbreak. Been working fine doing it in this order.

I am currently on 6.1 JB and enjoying good battery life. For those who were previously on 6.X JB and moved to 7.0.4 JB, how's your battery life? I'll probably JB to 7.0.4 if battery life is as good as 6.X JB.

I'm not sure yet, seems to be about the same but I can't say for sure as I've been constantly installing, deleting and respringing like crazy the past 2 days. Once I settle down and am happy with the setup I'll know.

What devices you jail breaking and you doing 7.0.4 or 7.1b2?

Personally I wouldn't stick with a beta and would rather be on 7.0.4
They said the expiration can be removed but I'd rather be safe than stuck restoring to stock firmware.
Also some packages have probs installing and running right on 7.1 beta.

As much as I love the jailbreak- I honestly do, I'd rather have 7.1 so if ends up, even after all the precautions I've taken to avoid any issues, I have to go back to stock because the beta2 7.1 doesn't hold the jailbreak after it expires, I can live with that. In other words...
My scenario:
First choice- 7.1b2 jailbroken.
Second choice- stock 7.1
Third choice- stock 7.0.4 jailbroken.

I don't know, I'd rather be JB though than back to stock ios and left out of a JB for possibly a long time.

What if your tweaks don't get updated for the beta version? Reading through various ongoing threads here it looks like a lot of stuff doesn't work correctly on the beta. In the past, devs don't normally update tweaks for specific betas. Who knows, in the end it might not even be an issue. Just some food for thought.

I'm happy with the current tweaks I have installed on my air with 7.1b2 but I'm scared about expiration problems for sure. Anything related to iconsupport by chpwn doesn't seem to work and I'm okay with that. It's a big risk but I love safaris improved performance enough to be a gamblin man.

If I was still using an iPhone I would be thinking harder about it with that device(leaving my 4 on 6.1) ,because it's harder to live without a JB.

Hmm I feel similarly. Maybe I'll put my phone on 7.0.4 in a bit to play it safe and still risk rMini
