Bigger Displays Rumored for Next Year's iPhone Models

A phone with the size and weight of the iPod Nano would be awesome, I'd even settle for one with the size and weight (88g!) of the iPod Touch.

This move to bigger and heavier phones is asking for a disruptive player to enter the market.

I used to want an iPod Nano (4th generation) sized phone, before the OG iPhone came out. I think I still would like it, click wheel and all.

I could totally see a 5.8" Mini at this point.

The 5.4" Mini is larger than the original Samsung Phablet. A 5.8" phone is huge-er.

By the market you clearly mean you. Typical! Apple would not bother making a follow up version if that was the case. But I agree with overpriced! They are ALL highly overpriced.

If you stick with the facts you’ll have better arguments. As it relates to defending the air, you shouldn’t have an argument. There isn’t one to be made for the Air.

I think the market and demand are the best arguments and they speak for themselves. There’s a difference between you liking a product and whether or not that product is “good”.

Phones are expensive everywhere. But I'm amazed at the huge cost that carriers charge in the US. Here in the EU (and the UK), you can get a premium (e.g. Vodafone, Three) unlimited 5G data, calls and texts for less than US$50 a month. It seems a lot more expensive in the US ... or am I wrong?

Wow! I am on EE, unlimited data and calls for just £18 a month! Over $50 for the same thing would be crazy.

They use different aspect ratios. The Samsung was 5.3" with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so size wise that is about the same as a current day 6.3" or 6.4" iphone basically.

This is disappointing news. I realize I plan to go back to Samsung for my next phone but Apple keeps doing everything it can to push me away as a customer. The only products of Apple I like at this point are Mac and AppleTV.

Off on a little tangent. I think iPhone Air came as a result of creating the iPhone Ultra. I think Liquid Glass is a feature meant for iPhone 20.

At this point I'd rather see more shrinking into the existing screens than any larger screens. After playing with it I was surprised how little the one handability improved from the 13 Pro Max to the iPhone Air. The smallest options are pretty huge, and come with larger bezels.

I'm hanging on to my iPhone 13 mini until it breaks. Phones are becoming bigger, no longer fit in my pocket, and one-handed operation is increasingly difficult. And without bezels, there's nothing to comfortably hold on to anymore. When the time comes to replace my phone, I will have to look outside Apple for a new model, though at this point I'm not sure which.

I'm already using a 16 Plus, its big screen and uuuuuge battery is a winning combination in my book. But I wouldn't buy a bigger mobile phone.

After a 13 Mini and a 15 Pro, which at first seemed massive, I'm now quite happy with the 6.3" on my 17 Pro.

I think I could make friends with 6.4", but more than anything I wish Apple would give some thought to how to actually use the increased real estate.

The 6" screen I had on my Pixel 5 felt quite a bit more spacious in comparison, allowing more icons and I believe a smaller user interface.

Comparing the Pro Max in store to my 6.6" work-issued Android was even worse. The Pro Max really just feels like a bigger version of the same thing.

The rendered image at the top of the article that MacRumors has been using for a little while for its 20th Anniversary iPhone articles doesn't look like what the rumors have been rumoring. Sure the image's front edges around the display curve down, but the metal band around the circumference of the render would be plainly visible when you look face-on at the display, and for some reason there's still a 1mm black bezel between the metal band and the display itself. The rumors we've been reading have been that the 20th Anniversary iPhone would incorporate some of the goals of Jony Ive to create an all-display effect when you look at it face-on, rather than being obviously bordered by the typical metal frame and thin black bezel that all iPhones have had to this point.

The rendered image looks more like a thin version of an iPhone 6 through XS design, with a thinner black bezel. My guess is that this isn't what Apple is working towards.

I've seen this so many times now and it's still just as funny to me. For those that don't remember there were a ton of memes back then originating from the fact that the iPhone 5 screen got taller but no wider. Ironically eventually almost all smartphones used a significantly taller aspect ratio than the 9:16 iPhone 5 screen. Always reminds me of this.
