year ago, a bunch of people on the forum were claiming anyone who bought and used the new MBP was not a professional. Apparently, my job is not a profession and I bought a 3000 euro MBP to read emails on it. Some of them went as far as to try to “explain my ignorance” with my nationality. And so on

And even then, the term "pro" has been morphed into meaning "using graphically intense or computationally intense programs". You can still be a Pro if what you do literally does just entail emailing 90% of the computer's use time. Could be important, professional emails.

Only irritating thing now is probably more iOS 11 vs X I hope - low volume when using Bluetooth phone to car (Jeep uconnect) -volume of actual call is so low I can barely hear the person. Bluetooth sound level all the way at max on the phone, still have to max the volume in the Jeep. Still muffled. Have tried rebooting, deleting and repairing, nothing so far

Totally agree, my mistake. But still, my point stands.

  1. The notch does not bother me at all but the condsequences of having it do e.g. can no longer see the battery %
  2. Mostly like how passive face id is and mine works just fine even in bed when I first wake up. I just do not like that if someone else looks at my phone (which people do with the X a lot) it then stops working and asks for my password. Also the waking while flat on my desk thing which has been done to death
  3. Like the notch I do not necessarily mind the no home button but the knock on effects are not great, gestures need some thought as imo they are not intuitive or fast. Think they could have used force touch more and other gestures like maybe 2 finger swipe down for control center or similar
  4. iOS. Improved but still a bit boring and limited imo, at the very least it would be nice to be able to arrange my home screen icons so I do not have to hide that lovely new OLED screen

Oh yeah, I was in agreement with you, and just adding to your point :)

And you can't do this already? How do you want them placed?

I'm not sure but it should work with ani Qi charger.

If the charger is Qi certified, yes, the iPhone X/8 should wirelessly charge with no issue. However, some of these QI wireless chargers are cheaply made and the iPhone X/8 can have charging issues consistently.

My biggest issue is with Face-ID. Its been really bad. I find myself putting in the code so much more than I’m used to, and it’s awkward making sure it’s always the right distance and angle from my face. Touch ID is a 100000 times better IMHO.

But then there is also the many extra steps; Unlocking the phone takes longer time, wait for face-id (wich often doesn’t work) THEN swipe up. Oops didn’t read my face. Press power button, press it again or tap the screen to try again, there finally, NOW you can swipe up. And your on your homescreen "sigh"!

And then there is the silly excuse for a stutus bar, which has been moved up into the "ears" of the display, where hardly any info fits the little space. So now you get the pleasure of pulling down the control center window everytime you want to check if your vpn, battery% or bt is still on. No need for that step on my old 7 Plus, it was all RIGHT there visible up top.

There is the extra time consuming (compared to the previous iPhones) tap and step to close apps completely in the background too (of course).

You can learn to deal with this (face-id being the worst), or go back to your old iPhone like I did. It was a sweet relief picking up my "old" 7 Plus after using the X, it really just works. Just like the times I would try android for a while and come back to iPhone with a promise to never leave again, except this time I did not come back from an android, but from the supposed future of iPhone. Which is really sad to be honest. :(

The focusbis just too slow on the iphone X/8. With the samsung or pixel you could take a pic when when the camera launched. Just that fast. And the picture quality was better on the samsung and pixel. By no means is the iphone bad at pictures tho. Shame apple couldnt make focus just as fast as those Androids.

My biggest issue is the ios! Had to restore my new phone about 6x! Just got it 4 days ago.

1st install was great using the transfer from iPhone 7 to the X by just putting your old phone beside the new one. In the end, it did the install but for some reason it kept asking me to login to like 10 different accounts I’ve never heard of!

2nd install was via iMazing app. Everything was good but couldn’t pair my apple watch coz apparently I forgot to unpair it before restoring! DUH!

3rd and 4th time. I was trying to find a way to restore from old backups hoping it will pair my apple watch again to no avail.

5th install to the newest backup using iMazing. But apps were just waiting or loading for HOURS! I checked my wifi speed and it was like 80mbps!

6th install this time via iTunes hoping apps will finally install but same thing. Waited like 7 hours but apps were not downloading even if I choose an app to prioritize download.

Finally did a new install instead of restoring and it worked. Was able to download apps from the App store and sync them with icloud backups.

4th day with the iPhone X and have to say, finally happy that no problems seems to have popped up. Although this morning had to reset my settings coz I thought face id couldn’t download apps from the App store. After reading through here, turns out I have to double click the side button! I was just double clicking on the screen before. Another Duh moment! Also had a moment of panic when trying to sync with itunes to get my music, it asked me to “install as new phone” or “restore backup”. Fortunately, choosing the install as new just connected my phone and didn’t erase anything.

So far, worst experience with an iphone ever! And I’ve been an iPhone user since the 4s!

that double click power button got me too

My biggest issue with it is that my daughter wants one as well ;)

The other is just an annoyance, when I approve an iTunes purchase for my children I have to enter the password and can't use faceID, touchID used to work on my 7+.

But otherwise it has been good, been dealing with 40C in Australia and bright sunshine, been dealing with -12C (feel factor) in Poland and the darkness, and besides that with the general wetness and snow in the UK. All is simply very good.

Nothing to do with tribalism or defending Apple. Couldn’t care less. What annoys me is the constant narrative going on here where people who do like a product are presented as totally naive or stupid. Just go read that post again: the poster feels sad for people who bought the X. They pity us because we were suckered into buying some unfinished, beta product.

Basically, we’re all naive at best or idiots at worst. The poster didn’t say it directly, but it is implied. Also, their claims are obviously highly subjective, and yet, presented as objective truth. This is not the first time something like this happened here. A year ago, a bunch of people on the forum were claiming anyone who bought and used the new MBP was not a professional. Apparently, my job is not a profession and I bought a 3000 euro MBP to read emails on it. Some of them went as far as to try to “explain my ignorance” with my nationality. And so on.

So these people come and literally make fun of or insult a lot of other people, and when someone reacts, guys like you claim it’s fanboyism. Yeah, right. It’s not fanboyism or tribalism or anything close. I really don’t care what people think about Apple. I don’t work there, I don’t own their stock. But I do get annoyed with all these melodramatic claims and hyperbolic statements that make everyone who like certain products seem like fools or suckers.

Hope I explained it to you.
You did, however I always find it interesting when people will attack and defend different people in such a way demonstrated in this thread. One must "read between the lines" for one user but direct insults from another aren't called out. What about that guy saying that people who don't have an X are poor or have no taste? After your post I believe that would be the right thing to do.

And that's why I hate fanboyism, or tribalism.

Finally when I posted I didn't like the X despite even owning one for a week I was insulted too. I'm not fussed about insults directed at myself but I don't like it when bias is displayed in such a way.

One hopes that touch ID will return, maybe in tandem with Face ID but given the option I'd rather just keep hold of my TouchID iPhone until something better comes along. Be it better recognition tech or putting the TouchID sensor under the display like what other companies are starting to do.

I just don’t understand how people are taking accidental screenshots. I’ve had my X for a while now and have never taken an accidental screen shot.

I would imagine it is down to the way the iPhone is being held. I tend to hold my iPhone with my right hand with my thumb on the lock button and my index and middle finger close to the volume buttons.

I’ve had my X for over a month now and my biggest complaint about this phone is the camera! I hate that a lil shake in the hand or the subject and the photo comes out blurry as F!

Who else has this issue?

My 7 was not that bad with the pic outcome
My Biggest issue is that I'm afraid to put a mark on it. So I bought a big case for it to protect it. Daft really, but in a year or two I'll be glad of this decision I expect...

I've done this once...The phone was on my desk and I was pressing the power button to turn off the screen and accidentally pressed the volume up button at the same time.

So I understand you correctly, you are saying Apple will knock off the iPhone X with a cheaper iPhone X? Huh?

Here's my prediction, take it with the same level of seriousness you do the random article:

2018: Apple will discontinue the 6S/6S+ and 7/7+. Apple will discontinue the 8/8+. Apple will launch the iPhone 8S/8S+. Apple will upgrade the processor on the X. The line will now be SE/8S/X.

2019: Apple will discontinue the 8S/8S+. Apple will launch the iPhone 9/9+. Apple will upgrade the processor on the X and add two colors. The line will now be SE/9/X.

2020: Apple will discontinue the SE, the 9/9+, and the X. Apple will launch the SE2 and the iPhone 9S/9S+. Apple will launch the X2 which will be lighter and thinner with a larger screen. The line will now be SE2/9S/X2.

The iPhone X is the 12" MacBook of the iPhone range. It's not intended to be updated frequently. It's a top-of-the-line product with a unique form factor and featureset that appeals to a certain segment of the userbase and does not compete with the lesser smartphones Apple offers.

For the most part, I agree with your predictions, bolt. But there is absolutely no chance they will wait almost three years to make a larger screen iPhone X, with an even more premium price and air of exclusivity. I suspect the X plus will happen this fall.

I still keep trying to use face id too close to my face. If that could be improved I would have no issues.

U don’t need the phone close to your face. Set it up away from your face about arm length and you will be good to go. Have no issues with Face ID . It’s honestly better then I thought it was

Me neither. I think there was even a Verge article about this. Never happened to me. How do people hold these things? I don't want to quote Steve, so I'll just paraphrase: you're holding it weird.

Battery life for me. Compared to my 7 plus I’m getting less usage and standby time. I also have issues where the phone reports I’ve used it when its been idle.
