Bill Gates on iPad: "It's a Nice Reader, But..."

Good god. it is a freaking MULTITOUCH DEVICE. This is not a nintendo DS!

The whole point of the iPad IS limiting functionality. To keep things simple, easy to understand and operate. You can think of it as more of an appliance than a computer. But of course the nerds just don't get this. They want it to have 10 serial ports, a 10 MP camera, and a builtin toaster just like other computers out there.

Microsoft yet again proves that they just don't get it.

Limiting functionality, yes. Keeping it simple, yes. But not even having the option of a stylus?

The iPad could have found an enormous student market had it had a stylus - if I were still a student, the idea of carrying around all my notes in an Internet-ready device would be far too good to pass up. Without a stylus, that becomes much harder...ever tried taking notes in a word processor? It's painful, and slow - a pen (or stylus) is necessary in this environment.

Why pitch it as just a consumer toy, when it could be a consumer toy and a much more effective productivity tool in one go? I'm sure Apple could come up with a good competitor to Microsoft's OneNote, excellent though it is.

cmon people,

you are not gonna be typing your college papers on ipad. I agree with Bill, it is just a reader. The processor is too slow to run any good games. It is going to run quake live like games made with 10 years old engine.

Apple tries to target different areas, office working, playing games, watching movies, but really do you wanna watch movies on ipad? Do you wanna play games on ipad? Do you wanna work with excel on ipad? Ask yourself, and you will answer all of the above with no. I watch movies on a couch on big screen, I work on a nice imac, and I play on a powerfull windows machine.

iPad is a nice Reader, but it is not for anything else.

Every netbook or laptop can do everything better than ipad, except of being a medium for eReading.

No multitasking.

I own Intuos 4, I am drawing comics.
Intuos 4 is the best and most precise tablet, and it is nowhere as fast as just typing information into a word processor.

Unless your typing speed is slow

Thanks for telling me what I think.

As for gaming, did you even watch the Nova demo? Its incredible. Not only did they have a very good looking game, but the idea of having a fully customizable layout for where you find things to be useful/comfortable is nothing short of genius.
