I've gotten past the first "boss" and I like the game very much. I've been taking it very slow through every area making sure to pick everything up, listening to the diaries, etc.

I like the respawn personally. For the most part the splicers stay confined to the area they spawned in so you generally don't have to worry about them respawning and coming to find you. Sometimes I've even ran past them. I like that they respawn because (spoiler if you haven't played any of the game at all) it adds to the feeling that they are roaming Rapture seeking Adams as they are addicted.

I'm trying to explore every inch of the map, even places you don't need to go to finish the game. Upon learning of the first boss I was thinking, "meh" but slowly listening to every audio diary along the way distorted my perception of him which increased my tension as I got further and further in. I wasn't disappointed.

I think the people had worked on multi-player but decided it was crap/nothing new so they turned their resources solely to the single player portion. Making a co-op campaign may have been cool but a vs multiplayer... unless it brought something new and crazy it might've just been a tacked on addition that never got played. It's nice to have all single player achievements too for a change.

I've made it past the first couple of levels so far. The game is great. I really like a lot of the options you get to modify your character (plasmids, gene tonics and the like) and using the environment in combat. Ammo isn't really plentiful in Rapture so running in guns blazing usually isn't the best idea. The atmosphere in this game is top notch too. From the awesome graphics to the music.

The first boss fight was pretty cool. I was amazed at the many ways you could actually kill him. If you aren't there yet, you'll see what I mean.

Bioshock isn't your standard shooter. Not buy a longshot. You actually have to think about what to do. Spray and pray just doesn't work in this game.

I agree that there should have been multiplayer. What I'm hoping they do is see how much of a following this game will have and release a multiplayer patch (a la Deus Ex, and hopefully free over Xbox Live). I could see myself playing this game for a long time if they do that. Having all the character customization options in a Deathmatch would be incredible.

If you have a 360 or a capable PC, buy it now. You'll thank me later. :)

I suppose better nothing than something disappointing...:(
This is how i felt about Gears of War Multiplayer. Don't bash me for this, the single player, and online co-op are essentially unrivaled on the 360 (except maybe Bioshock's single player ;)) but the multiplayer is horrible. I almost wanted Gears to have something like COD2 online- deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, etc. The lack of respawns online is annoying, I much rather would have had the option for a team deathmatch, first to X number of kills. I suppose it takes some getting used to, and I may have written it off too early, but next to Halo 2 and COD2 online, GOW is sub par.
Bioshock could've just copied COD online multiplayer for all i care, and it would be a perfect 10/10 in my book; but to ignore the online, especially when you have something as great as XBL at your disposal, is borderline unacceptable. There is some stuff they could have done to innovate for online multiplayer, and fighting someone who also had plasmids would've been fun. The environments/stages/areas seem condusive to multiplayer. There could have been deathmatches with the plasmids strewn across the map, so you gain an advantage by getting more of them. More creative minds could think of more online options :D
I don't mean to be bashing the game, it is the best single player shooter I have played since Gears of War, and the graphics and environments are great, as is the story behind rapture; but I really wanted some online multiplayer...

little sisters and ADAM........

so guys, are you "harvesting" or letting her live?

me, i want all the adam i can get!!

also, what plasmid do you like using the most?
electro shock with the wrench has NOT gotten old!!:D

I'm saving the little sisters, that woman wouldn't promise you something and say that it will take a while if you weren't going to get something good
My favorite plasmid is definetly telekinesis by itself, doesn't waste ammo and is very powerful :D

There's an achievement for letting them live. So I'm letting them live... :) I read there is enough Adam to max out without killing them anyway. I figure on the 2nd play through on Hard I'll harvest them so I can max out my character quicker.

I usually use the electric plasmid the most. The fire one tends to hurt me more than them half the time and the telekenisis is mostly useful for retrieving things.

They may add multi-play in the future I guess (up to them). I think their main focus was a great single player game though and making both may have detracted from that.

Some possible options for multi-player could be:

As you take over points your side has access to more plasmids.
Assassination type where one side protects the little sisters.
Rainbow 6: Vegas type where as you "level" you get access to more slots or techs.

Hrm... okay that's all I got aside from the norm. Hacking would have to be changed too I think as that wouldn't be terribly fun to do while doing a FPS.

*spoilers* ?

Don't know how much spoiler-wise you guys are talking about but...just a suggestion..spoiler tag or [ text=white ] [/text] everything please for those of us

<------ :D

too broke to buy the full game yet. :)

They do respawn, but not in large numbers.

I actually like that because it keeps you on your toes. You can't exactly charge around wildly once you've cleared an area because there's always a chance that another Splicer has wandered in.

They won't, like, spawn behind you, but they're around. You can generally hear them babbling or what not, and it does provide you another source of money (for ammo/health, which you'll NEED on Hard), so it's a welcome addition as far as I'm concerned.

BLASPHEMY!!! SS2 cheese. :(

Hopefully there's an option to turn it off on the PC, but if the game is unbalanced, this would be a bad idea. SS2 had a patch, but it never worked for me. Bleh. I don't mind re-spawns if they make sense, or at least seem plausible, but not in a fixed environment, or from any game that came from System Shock. With SS2 I would clear every monster on a level, then turn around after leaving a dead-end, and there would be a monster right where there was nothing a second ago. CHEESE!!! The game's problem wasn't the re-spawns, but that it was unbalanced because of it. Limited resources and unlimited re-spawns just don't add up. The re-spawns also made the game more of a FPS.

The first SS was so well balanced on hard, that it gave just enough ammo, power, and health to keep the game going and was very suspenseful, but still not enough to make it an FPS frag fest. Ammo was found only where it made sense, so if you killed a civilian-monster-mod, they wouldn't randomly drop bullets. SS scared the hell out of me, much more so than SS2, not because it had more monsters, but because it's overall attention to detail.

I didn't mind re-spawn in RE4. The game was balanced around it and it fit as a whole. I guess if I hadn't played SS, I wouldn't have cared about it in SS2, but it ruined the game in some ways.

Bleh. Bleh. Bleh.

It's really not bad. Splicers often carry a few bucks and a little ammo on them (if they're using guns, of course), so having them around can be useful - and there are rarely situations where you're in an environment that's 'closed' enough that they couldn't have crept in from somewhere. It is a city, after all, and they are the inhabitants. So...well, the respawns make sense.

It's not so jarring as you might think. They don't just appear out of nowhere. And due to their behavior it's typically possible to skirt around them and avoid engaging altogether.

I played the demo on my MacBook Pro the other day, decided to purchase it from Circuit City tonight for $39.99.

Anyone know if I can update my graphics drivers with the latest from Nvidias site, or do I have to use the Bootcamp drivers?

Huh? What? Where?!!!!
Amazon has an LE one too?
The Gamestop one which is gone except for fleabay where it is being sold for exhorbitantly high prices (upwards of $150 - $195)...didn't have a tin box, I don't believe.

I looked on Amazon, I didn't see an LE version available.

More info, Piarco, pleeeeeeeeease!!!! :D

Not really that much more info really xero2dash - I'd had Bioshock on my wish list for an age, and the when I was first looking for it the LE edition was all I could find (mind you this was 4 months ago) pre-ordered it last week but then thought to check the non-LE edition to see if it was cheaper.....
It wasn't! Both were at Amazon's normal price for a new 360 game. So I went with the LE Tin version. :D

:UPDATE: It's arrived! Nice tin it is too... I was expecting it to be the normal game case in a silver coloured stamped tin, but its an actual tin game case, nicely coloured and stamped - looks really cool!

How does the Big Daddy figure look? What is it made out of?

Looks like there are different limited editions out there... this one was solely the tin case... no Big Daddy figure included. Which is good as it would have never fitted through my letterbox! :p

Downloaded the pc demo off of Steam this morning.

Looks like a blast. If I buy it it'll be the first pc game I've boughten since Wow.

bootcamp's

Yea, i guess we have to. I tried using the drivers from Nvidias site, and when I run the install it says it cant find any hardware that is supported. Sucks.

Does BootCamp drivers support DirectX 10 on your machine? When I ran the Bioshock demo, DirectX 10 wasn't an option.

^

dunno, I only have XP so I can't test DX10 stuff.

I'm about 3 1/2 - 4 hours in and I'm having trouble playing it anymore. The story is really what is keeping me playing because I'm actually rather bored with the combat. The enemies feel like more of an annoyance than anything and while the plasmids are really cool and all, it just doesn't feel all that satisfying for whatever reason *sigh* I really wanna like this game because it does so much so well but i'm just not as glued to it as I thought i would be after the demo oh well... back to jeanne d'arc

Don't you hate when the media idolatrizes one game so much and then you play it and its just alright? It happened to me with Halo (what a piece of garbage this game is), God of War (a fun game but its not nearly the monster its hyped to be) and even Half-Life2 (I'll probably be mauled to death by jimmi for that). I just hope Bioshock IS as good as they say.

Just been and picked my copy up. Who managed to get one of these?

Hand painted, we only got 2. Perks of working at GAME, I suppose.
