When we get some snow coverage, the cardinals have to come up to the feeder. I’ve had these feeders up for ten years, and for all of that time I had only very rarely seen two males there at once. Suddenly that day(just last week) we had up to five at a time.

Reginald our resident male Belted Kingfisher, was hanging out on our pier chains today so I had an opportunity to get a few shots of him in the light rain:

Once in a while when shooting birds we get a surprise and capture a genuinely natural movement:

Beautiful series. I love Kingfishers.

Thank you! Kingfishers are speedy little devils, hard to capture while actually in flight, so when one has the opportunity to photograph them while they're standing or sitting on a branch or limb or, as in this case, a chain between posts on our pier, time to grab the camera and start shooting!

I actually hadn't even had my morning juice or coffee, much less breakfast yet, but when I looked out and saw him, well, all of that could just wait.... This little chap took priority.

They're fascinating little birds. The Kingfishers that we see here in the US aren't as beautiful, colorful and exotic as some of the ones who flourish in other countries. I'd love to see one of those in person!
