I got mine shipped from the Los Gatos store to Los Angeles for free (overnight!). I think I got the last one there. Picked it up last Monday, got the airport card installed the next day and have been in 8-core heaven since then. Gotta love Apple. :D:apple:

...Damn you

Take this for what its worth, but my business guy said that this Monday they have to send all of these units back to apple from the stores.

Let me say though I have been told so many different things by geniuses/managers/business at apple stores in the last 2 weeks I wouldn't be surprised to hear that was wrong.

I called 4 stores in Illinois and all of them had either sold/sent them back. I just noticed on apples website they have refurbished 2.8 systems in stock now for $2,399.

Its too late I think. Friday I had one sent from another state to me, but I don't know if I will receive it in time. They will be getting the order to send it the same day they should send them back, so its a crap shoot according to my business contact.

Fingers crossed!

Hurry up and buy those EOL Mac Pro's. Once they're all gone, Apple can lower the price on the 2009's and release the 3.2GHz Nehalem Xeon.

Try calling every store. I just had a 2.8 overnighted to me for 1899 plus 12 dollars for overnight shipping.

Great deal.

Then thank me. I just bought what I believe are the last 4 in the continental US. I called an out of state store and asked for four of the EOL 2.8 8 cores. The business rep told me she had 1 which is on the way for $12 shipping and then proceeded to track down 3 more. She found them today and told me the good news! YAY!

Now its on to OWC or transient for the memory...

are you sure those were the last ones? I REALLY need a new Mac. I'm a G4 powerbook just saving my money. I wanted to jump on this deal, but I thought it was too late. I guess I'll jump on the phone tomorrow.... or maybe I can take one off your hands weaksauce? 4 Really now? What about the rest of us?

Good luck. According to my source they are supposed to send them all back today (monday).

*fingers crossed*

Yeah, I read that on Sunday night and I didn't have time to call today. I'll try tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed. Wish me luck!

I sincerely wish you the very best of luck. According to the rep I dealt with, the only reason why she was willing to scour the earth for an additional 3 EOL 2.8 Mac Pros was the fact that all the apple stores are shipping their units back to the warehouses on 3.31 where they will be later listed on the apple site and offered for $2500. That is...if there are any left.

It does seem rather piggish of me to buy four when i don't really need[ four.

So they are going to put them on the refurbished page. If they were selling on the refurbished page, why even give a biz discount?

Not that I'm complaining...

Tekserve in NYC selling 2.8 x 8s for 2199.

If you can't find an Apple Store in NY for the business discount, I saw an ad on Tekserve's site that they have deeply discounted the 2008 Mac Pros. (obviously not as good as $1899, but still more bang for the buck than a 2009 model at full price, if you ask me.)

They also have 2.8 x 4s for $1850.

Good luck...

I have a store locating a 2.8 for me right now. I don't have a "registered business" but am a musician with a recording studio that I plan on charging for use. What should I tell them? How in-depth are the questions that they ask? I can make a business name, but I don't have any business cards. What did they ask you guys?

Tell them you have a post-production company and that you need the Mac Pro for Logic Studio. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant. They PROBABLY won't ask you to prove anything. They took my word on everything I said. Basically, they just asked me (over the phone) what my business name was. That was good enough for them.

Good luck, dude. Keep us posted!

Seems a little weird they would sell new machines as "refurbished".

Either way I just got my mac pro hooked up.

At the business price I couldn't pass. I was looking at an imac, but I have two displays already and I have 4 HD's, plus a time capsule. I wanted (yes I know, wanted) a desktop.

I also bought a quad 2.8. Bought the quad w/ 23" ACD on Sunday, then Monday I happened upon the octo deal. Oh well.

1899 is not much for an octo machine, I would rather have 8 cores and keep it 3 times longer than an all in one iMac with 2 cores.

*Sorry Guys*

So the rep that helped me get the Mac Pros sent me an email stating that the ones I got are the absolute VERY last EOL 2.8 8core mac pros in the US. Apple may not have any to post on the refurb list unless someone returns their mac pro within 30 days of purchase or some arrive from overseas.

I spoke with a store today that had one but they would not do the 1899 price, and claimed to not know why others were allowed to do so. Even after a helpful business rep from another store called to try to help, they still couldn't do it. He later claimed he sent it back today. Frustrating.

Well, I called all 4 Apple stores in Toronto (even though I live a few hours away from there) and left messages with the business teams as no one was available.

I really hope that I can snag something with them!!!

Last night I was able to get one, but I had called several places around the country in a search. This is what I was told - If you had spoken to the store on Monday and they were holding one for you, then you were fine yesterday. However, the order came down from the Mothership to return all EOL Mac Pros, and the stores were complying with the order - boxing them up yesterday for shipping back today. Unless you could physically get into the stores to purchase them before they closed yesterday, you were out of luck. There were several stores that said they had at least one in stock and would have been more than happy to sell it to me, but only if I could physically get into the store since they can't technically do a purchase over the phone.

I'm sure some stores will be different than others, but most of what I've found in the West has been pretty similar in situation and explanation.
