It was 2 hours drive back to the Apple Store vs 1 hr to an authorized dealer/repair place. They can order any part needed (under warranty) so a new machine may not be necessary.

That being said, if the same thing happens again, or another board goes out I'll press for a different machine.

Can computers "go bad" by just sitting around in a box unused for a year?

I've seen people unbox a 10 year old mac thats been sitting around in a storage unit being opened and running just fine.

What a bunch of _______. The goofballs in the store near me never ring things up properly, so they don't show a business history. 2 stores near me have a unit left, neither want my money. Lovely. Suddenly, my G4 seems useful again.

The local rep even told me that everyone else must be breaking Apple's rules. Kind of uppity (I don't use that word). It's nice when the business dude quotes $2499 and acts like $1899 doesn't exist until you actually say it to them!

Thats strange, my local store once I asked about the business account deal they gave me the phone to the person who deals with business accounts. Then he immediately said, YES it is on sale for $1899. When would you like to come down for one?

I read this thread and I'm still confused:
Do you have to have a business + proof or can you just go in and say you have a business and immediately recieve the discount?

They just take your word for it, but you just create an account under business and just purchase one. They dont ask for anything but just a few questions probably something like what are you using or what are you going to use this purchase for business or personal.

Ughhh...What state is your store in?

Thanks. Do you create the account in store?

Same thing happened to me. I never knew about Apple's business program, so the last computer I bought from the Sagemore store in Marlton, NJ was bought as an individual. I called up today to try and get the business discount on the mac pro, and I was told that I had to have a long-standing relationship with the business team at the store AND be a volume buyer (James, the business person I talked with quoted me something ridiculous like a computer a month.)

James claimed that they submitted the request to corporate and that corporate turned it down. James seemed annoyed through the entire situation and never went to bat for me or tried to work things out. He kept coming up with reasons why I couldn't have the discount (volumen buying, long standing relationship, my last purchase wasn't over 5,000, my last purchase was too long ago, etc.)

I'm pretty upset about the entire situation. The Sagemore store just lost a customer.

I'm in New Jersey, by the way.

Thanks. Do you create the account in store?

Well, no go here. The Business Partner strongly contended there is no such thing as $1899 unless you've done business in the past and the best he could do was $2499 for the 2.8 and $3999 for the 3.2 that has the upgraded NVidia and two optical drives
I also had to do a very long synopsis on my company and the use of this machine...at which time I got the requisite "Nehalem is better...and use Logic" schpeel which I had to cut off with a lot of quotations from this forum (thanks guys)

So a $300 on the stock 2.8...still better than my corp discount and I do own a business so I'm not feeling any guilt

Wonder if I can still apply a Gift Certificate to that price?

the best he could do was $2499

That's what I was told too. Unforunately, that isn't really a discount considering that amazon.com is selling them for less than that because of no tax.

some earlier mentioned finding one at another location and having it shipped.
All of the biz reps I've talked to where VERY friendly. One even called my house to see if I needed anything else.
I'd say keep trying while they are still out there.
I think there are a few 3.2 8 cores left in my area (Dallas) for $3599 ($1100 off)

Yeah that was me. I couldn't find one in LA (and got the same "business history" BS from a couple stores), so I called around SF and found one at the Santa Clara store. Talked to Rafael. I got the $1899 price, a little discount on applecare, 3% sales tax since I'm using it for post production, and FREE overnight shipping. Can't ask for much more than that.

I can confirm purchase of one of these units for 1899 in the Chicago area. It was purchased through the rep in charge of working with businesses. What they seem to want is contact information for future business sales. The guy I bought it from created a widget containing contact information. The actual purchase was set up by the business rep at another apple store who called around in this area and set up the purchase for me. They must work on commission or receive brownie points for units sold.

Could be. I had bought a 30" ACD at my local store last summer and they had that on file. Plus I told them my business had purchased many Apple products through the years, going back to before Apple stores existed.

I forgot to mention that you should also grab the free $100 Cannon printer.
Apple has a $100 rebate on Cannon printers when you purchase a Mac.
Nice little copier/printer with scanner!

can't beat the price and the rebate check came within 2 weeks.

If you didn't grab it when you bought the Mac, I bet you could go back with the receipt and get one.

I didn't grab the printer, I have no use for another printer, but I did grab a copy of iWork Family Pack for $69. Don't forget to grab iWork if you need it, it's on sale with purchase of a Mac.

Mines came with the mac pro when I picked it up.

Oooh, I'll be in Chicago this week. Do you need to prove residency in Chicago?

Dallas

anyone in Dallas want to help me out with their business account? North Park and University in Fort Worth both have them in stock.

Please? lol

This is interesting considering mine died the 2nd day I had it. Waiting on repair status, and they have the box so I can't check the SN.

Anyone else had a $1899 2.8 MP go bad?

Just found out my logic board went bad, Apple is overnighting a new one to the repair place. Said there was some light blinking on the video card? What would cause a logic board to just "go bad" all of a sudden, and is it likely to happen again?

Confirmed

Just took advantage of this promotion.

The biz sales guys are great. I called upstate NY after getting the cold shoulder at the MePa location. Crossgates location found a couple nearby and put me in touch with the SoHo location who processed my order. I did the entire transaction from my home and will pick up my new machine when they get it in.

If your local store doesnt have it, ask them to check surrounding sister stores for stock. I will only order through biz sales moving forwards.
