maybe you were just unlucky. or maybe you're part of the unlucky minority?

i received both black and white iPhones yesterday and was eager to find any defects. well i thought i found a scuff on the rim of the white. but it was just a lint.

also i noticed there's a blue pigment on both phones at the bottom part of the rim at the seams where the plastic separates the lower rim to the main rim. i figured it's just some sort of a glue and i wasn't bothered with it anyways.

i don't know how many of you out there who has defects on the phone but i'm guessing there's only a small numbers affected with this issue.

did you order yours directly from apple or att?

You are the lucky minority, not the majority.

You better stick to defending Apple. It looks like they might need it this time. And your comeback even proves the point more. The finish it so fragile that minimal handling is scratching it. I don't think they are using keys to package the phone, do you? Back to you.

Calloused hands. Very rough edges.

Apparently Edward Scissorhands has been assigned to pack the iPhone 5.

Cool dude, nothing is perfect. Understand tolerance and you will understand...take the number of defects and take the number made. I guarantee it is MUCH MUCH smaller than you have any idea. You will never understand because you expect everything to be perfect and because your $.50 flashlight doesnt scratch then your $600 iphone shouldnt scratch either. Get the hell over yourself. When you are ready to pay for something perfect, you will get something perfect. And no $600 for the phone does not guarantee perfect, the price would double if you expected Apple to personally inspect every phone before it left to guarantee not even a spec of dirty air got into the package. Take some keys to your indestructible flash lights and tell me they dont scratch.

Also..how many things do you buy that come from FOXCONN that dont arrive scratched? Last time I checked, FOXCONN does not make everything nor package everything in the world and is probably why *EVERYTHING* else you buy doesnt arrive with your perception of damage. Also how many other products do you buy are under such a time line as an iPhone at launch?? Who knows when they actually began productions but as of last known numbers, they had to have 4 million...*4,000,000* and I guarantee you Apple had a specific number they wanted ready by said time and no it was not Thursday the 20th...you cant forget all the logistics.

But im done, I could explain this to you all day...you will never understand. You dont pay the price to get something perfect. Why dont you go buy an Android and become a fandroid...seems like you would fit right in. No I am not an Apple Fanboy, just tired of every launch there being a new *gate* problem. Everyone wanted a bigger screen now all you see is memes showing a 10 story high iphone. Cant please anyone.

Unfortunately, you don't understand. Go read the 95 page thread in the iPhone forum that I linked to above. And I'm still waiting for you to bring something to the discussion besides nonsense. Quit while you're behind.

I got my iPhone 5 right here and i don't even dare to take it out of the box yet with all these news floating around. Guess i have to wait for my Bodyguardz film to arrive.

Can you link me to what you bought, im assuming its full body, front and back protection, does it protect the bezel as well or just flat front and back?

Also, any tips from users as to what the BEST Full body (Front and back) "screen protectors" are. I've heard great things about spigen SGP glas.t but it appears thats just for the front.

Is this scratching issue on the rear and edge only for black ?

Or is this issue also on white ?

I bought it here: http://www.bodyguardz.com/apple-iph...-skins-films.html?dir=asc&order=sort_priority

Its flat front, sides and back. You have to get a case to protect the bezel. I'm not taking any chances for it to be scratched!

You are the lucky minority, not the majority.

If it was a majority it would be a huge uproar which it's not. Don't see CNN reporting on like they did with the antenna issue.

----------

There's a poll and a 95 page thread in the iPhone forum. Close to half of the people who have voted are reporting scratches on their phone.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1445493/

Seeing as this site is loaded with android trolls I wouldn't take that poll seriously. I use to be one of those trolls.

what a bunch of nonsense

Of course dennislaska is right!

Dude you have no idea what you are talking about.

Of course dennislaska in his post is right when he says [using my own words to render what I understand to be what he wrote] that Apple should have used a more resiliant or stronger material and coating, or a finish more resistant to normal use. The iPhone should NOT get scratches with normal use, such as small or light crashes with other things, such as wood furniture and such.

I should go without saying that he really knows what he is talking about. It always puzzles me to read a post like this. What kind of motivation? Is it meant to be ironical? Nope. So I just wonder...

Thank you.

I just joined this forum to add something to the discussion. I also use my real name when joining forums (google me) and don't hide behind a handle and troll.
My cheap mag flashlight and my expensive Leica both have durable black finishes.

Thanks again mortenandersen for supporting me.

As far as adding to the topic I posted pics of the wear on a Black iphone 5 right in the Apple store.

I'm not bashing apple. I like their products, but when you see this finish coming off after 1 day of normal handling and then you see posts saying this is nonsense I felt compelled to contribute.

Here's an interesting video that Sneakyfox posted in the iPhone forum:

The anodizing seems durable to me. The main issue for some is getting one that isn't damaged out of the box. I think once those are replaced and the issues which caused them to be scratched and dented at the factory are resolved things will calm down and get better.

Mine arrived without markings and has held up well without a case. I keep it in my pocket and while at my computer it sits on a wooden desk. No marks yet. It's still too early to say but I feel there's hope for all.
