Black or White iPad?

I bought a white iPad 2, and swapped it week 1 for a black one. The white was honestly distracting, even if it looked cool.

I was all set to get the white one until I read your post. As far as watching videos goes, your argument wins hands down, black all the way.

However when reading books or most webpages, their backgrounds are white so surely the opposite argument applies? I.e. the black would be distracting whereas the white would just blend in...

I think it depends on what you're using it for. When you are reading a book the white, in my opinion, looks nicer whereas the black is more distracting. In a perfect world I think I would have a color-changing bezel :)

I think it comes down to what you plan on doing with your iPad. If you plan on watching movies and television shows, go with a black iPad as it will be less of a distraction with letterbox shows. If you plan on reading with your iPad, go with a white version, as the majority of the reading you will do will be black text on a white background. Having a white bezel makes it slightly easier on the eyes, IMO.

Therefore, I went with a white version as I rarely watch movies on my iPad and do a lot of reading websites and eBooks.

I also got a dark grey polyurethane cover. I just thought it looked best.

Aha, yes. I suppose I should have typed my reply faster so that I would not have completely reiterated everything you already said!

I've always loved the white iPad. I owned the iPad 1 but not 2.

So when the Apple Store opened after the media event, I went straight for the white one.

12 hours and a good sleep later, I called Apple to change my order to black.

I did some research and compared pictures. And after changing my order, I went to the nearest mall to check out both colours and I'm glad I made the switch.

I figured, I love the white one because it's aesthetically beautiful. But I'll probably get sick of it in a month. Practically, the black one is the way to go. As many articles on tech blogs stated, there's a reason why televisions have black frames.

I'll probably envy those with the white iPad whenever I see them on the street, but I rather be envious than having buyer's remorse.

Anyway, during my research, these are the 2 pictures that sealed the deal for me.

I prefer cigar with smoke so I'm definitely getting a black iPad.

They're both good colors. From those two pictures, I actually prefer the white.

I really think it comes down to personal preference. There is no 'factually' better color - it's all what the individual prefers.

Me too, the white is far from distracting and watching video's on it is awesome, makes the content jump out a lot more IMO

I was looking to describe why white works so well for many people (as in my case too), and you hit the nail on the head here.

Although I voted in the poll for a white iPad, I actually ended up preordering a black iPad. I feel I'll get tired of it after about a month and have buyer's remorse, along with other reasons.

My iPhones have always been black and I ordered a 32GB Black one this time around.

I really like the white and I've been torn about it for awhile. The PR images on Apple's iPad site of the white iPad make it look amazing. But I think white can look really good in professional pictures with proper white balance but in real life, all too often the white border bc of lighting conditions just looks yellow and doesn't match the vivid white color you can get on the screen.

The screen also looks deeper inset from the glass on the white iPad. Don't know if it actually is, but it looks that way. Also not such a huge fan of the black gap between the display and the bezel on the white. That, along with the prominent border while watching movies on the white led me to choose the black, though every time I go to www.apple.com/ipad I feel a twinge of regret.

I definitely want to get the next iPhone in white though!

The white looks fantastic on Apple's website. That's why I was so unsure of which color to get.

I just got back from the Apple Store, and I must say, I quite disliked the overall look of the white iPad in use. It looks beautiful just sitting there, but once you turn the screen on, it almost looks yellow. The screen clashes with the border and it looks odd, especially with white webpages, books, etc. Watching videos was kind of awful; the white actually distracted me a lot, and made the picture look darker.

I'm going with black. iOS was built originally with a black border in mind, and the white option almost seems like an after thought on the iPad. I really like the white on my 4S, but it just feels...weird on the iPad.

And while I love my 4S, I hate how you can see dirt around the home button, and how the white plastic around the screen scuffs. I don't want that on my iPad, as I plan on having it longer than I keep an iPhone.

There's no correct option, but the white iPad just isn't for me.

I ordered white just because I've always had black iOS devices. But I really don't think it matters. I do lots of reading and watching movies/shows, so would be 'hooped' either way.

+1! I have had both and like them for different reasons. Hard choice. Went with black this time since my iPad 2 was white. Wondering if I will miss it?

I loved my white iPad 2, but went for black this time.

I like to alternate.

I had a white iPad 2 and actually liked how it always looked clean as the
iPhone 4S does, no fingerprints and or smudges to keep wiping.

Seeing the hands-on videos and someone wiping the black iPad in the background on wednesday had me reconsidering.

I decided to go with black this time around and have ordered the 32gb wifi+4G LTE model and as a precaution i will go to the apple store friday evening with unopened new iPad in hand to see the actual devices on display to see which one i like the most with the new HR screen. My only complaint about the previous one was the screen never did look that good. Videophile.

The only thing stopping me from preordering right now is the color! I suffer from extreme indecisiveness syndrome.

I have the black iPhone 4s but I sort of regret not getting the white iPhone. Because I did not go for the white iPhone, I feel I should take the plunge right now and get a white iPad for a change in color! On the other hand, the black matches with my Macbook pro, and if I buy a black iPad, then everything matches!

I will continue racking my brain for the rest of the day and hopefully put in a preorder by the end of the day.

Ordered Black... prefer how the white looks, but I'm afraid I'll just get sick of it... like I did with my white iPhone 4 (that was supposed to become my fiancé's white iPhone 4...)

I'm buying the white iPad.
The black IS better for movies, even Apple knows that.

If you look at all those pictures, you'll see that the iPad is white ALL THE TIME until you scroll down to the bottom of the page. The woman in the picture is holding an iPad in BLACK while watching a movie on the iPad.

Ordered black because i think it looked better than white (for an iPad) but thinking I should have got a white to match my iPhone :p either way I will love it more than anything :D
