Black or White iPad?

I have a white iPhone 4S, but I think the bezel around the iPad is too thick and would be distracting in white, so I got the black.

I actually spent an hour trying to decide between black and white last night. I kept getting comments from my wife like "You still haven't ordered it yet? What's taking so long?"
I was set on black until I got to the smart cover selection. All of the colored ones look so much better on the white iPad.
Eventually, I settled on black with the dark grey smart cover. But the white iPad with the red leather cover was a close second.

Black AND white

White for the wife, reading books, black for me for films. At least that would be my choice

Going from a 32gb black iPad 1 to a 32gb black iPad 3 (or "the new iPad")

White does look better in pictures, just feel in practise especially if watching a widescreen movie with the letter boxing it will be less distracting as the black will merge in with the border. on the white it seems ya would have white, thin black border where screen inside stops and then the contrast of black border.
maybe i'm wrong but with the device costing so much, didn't want to take the risk.

Still not decided on case yet. The smart covers seem really expensive for what they are and dont like the fact they dont offer any protection for the back. does any1 know if ipad 2 cases will fit??

I've always loved the white iPad. I owned the iPad 1 but not 2.

So when the Apple Store opened after the media event, I went straight for the white one.

12 hours and a good sleep later, I called Apple to change my order to black.

I did some research and compared pictures. And after changing my order, I went to the nearest mall to check out both colours and I'm glad I made the switch.

I figured, I love the white one because it's aesthetically beautiful. But I'll probably get sick of it in a month. Practically, the black one is the way to go. As many articles on tech blogs stated, there's a reason why televisions have black frames.

I'll probably envy those with the white iPad whenever I see them on the street, but I rather be envious than having buyer's remorse.

Anyway, during my research, these are the 2 pictures that sealed the deal for me.

Yes thanks for the above pictures, that is exactly what i thought and why i went black. Indeed that cements it even more, thanks for putting nail in the head that i made the right choice :O)

Well, thank you too! I was so torn between the 2 colours that I spent a couple hours researching. Even after I switched my order, I wasn't sure.

In a way, we're both putting a nail in each other's head.

Great pictures. This is also why I ordered black. It puts the focus ENTIRELY on the content. I actually like the way the white one looks better, but I prefer for the device to 'get out of the way' so to speak when I'm using it. Either way we're splitting hairs.

Looks like I can't change my original poll answer, but this morning I ordered the black one and cancelled the white one. Just could not wrap my head around the constant white border.

White

I chose white after having a white iPad 2. It looks classy to me and feels more futuristic. It has never once distracted me during a movie. I also know where to grab it without touching the screen.

Black FTW. I like looking at what's on the screen and not staring at the bezel.

I went black. I just prefer black devices. I have a black 4s. Sometimes when I see the white iPhones I like them. But the pics posted above make me glad I stuck with black. Don't like the white frame around the picture.

Black!! Just like my 1st gen! I love my white 4s and white ipod touch but this one had to be black!

I was all set to get the white one until I read your post. As far as watching videos goes, your argument wins hands down, black all the way.

However when reading books or most webpages, their backgrounds are white so surely the opposite argument applies? I.e. the black would be distracting whereas the white would just blend in...

I read somewhere that it's not as good as we think it is because the white bezel is of a different shade as the white on a webpage/ebook etc.

Don't quote me on that though. Just sharing what I read somewhere.

I had a white iPad 2 and went with back this time to change it up.

from my experience, black is better for video and white is better for reading / surfing the web. decide from what you will do mostly on it. the web, books, newspapers all have white backgrounds for the most part. all video content will have black bars.

I went with White I never own a White idevice before I decide I will go with white for a change

I went with black because my iPad2 and iPhone 4S are white, and I wanted something different. I like both colors, though. I have a red smart cover that I'll continue to use.

Did you order the black or white iPad? Please explain your reasoning behind choosing the color that you did. Also, if applicable, feel free to state which color iPad Smart Cover you ordered.

White looks nicer. Black looks more artificial and has a "machine"-type look.

White iPhone 4S
White new iPad

I may go black next year. I switch it out every year.

They're both good colors. From those two pictures, I actually prefer the white.

I really think it comes down to personal preference. There is no 'factually' better color - it's all what the individual prefers.
