Fud

FUD.

Apple is staying the course and not reactionary. Innovation will continue and they show restraint until the right time.

They've changed nothing in their behavioral formula--no need to panic.

I'm guessing all these FUDmeisters will be feeling pretty stupid in a year, when Apple wipes their asses again. Like Ballmer with his famous iPhone quote.

none of that was innovation per se...just design differences

The windows phone at very least WAS innovation. Innovation IS design differences, its taking ideas to a new level, and presenting information in a new way, its providing easier ways of doing things, its bringing new functionality to a device.

Android, WebOS, Windows OS and BB10 have all done this.

I wouldnt be at all surprised to see a very major iOS overhaul within the next couple of years, Apple really dont have a choice. The hype has gone.

It lacks innovation but compared to the rest of the competition it is still the best phone and the best user experience. Innovation will come with improved technology. As performance gets better and storage gets smaller, the capabilities of the phone will increase and that will open the door to innovation.

For now, it does the best you can with the hardware it has.

Other carriers have this innovate craze on their minds so they add shoebox size screens and say "Look at us were innovating."

Apple's stale is better than the best the competition has to offer. We will see new stuff when the technology is there to support it.

While I do agree with some of this, its strange coming from him with the state BB are in. Maybe its bigger in Americas but in Europe I havent seen a BB mobile for years.

Actually, one only has to look back to Microsoft for this. While I don't agree with everything they've done with Win8, their tablet/phone interface... somebody there did indeed get off their asses and push something else "out there".

Agreed. Microsoft, Palm and Nokia got off their asses and actually attempted to do something and whilst the latter two didn't workout the former is still pushing forward. RIM and Samsung have no right to say anything yet they're the ones barking the most about innovation.

Features are not necessarily innovations.

Precisely, a larger screen is not "innovative" ... it's just a feature point.
NFC is a feature, limited.
Inductive charging is a feature, limited.

How notifications are handled in a UI could be innovative. I don't seem to care about how notifications are now handled in iOS... in fact because I work for a living I DON'T WANT TO BE BOTHERED WITH NOTIFICATIONS!

A UI for "multitasking" can be innovative.

A UI such as Windows Phone is innovation as well.

Don't confuse a simple feature with innovation.

Great point, those things aren't innovations, except for when Apple made them innovations, like with the Retina Display, right?
All an innovation really is, is a new feature that changes the way something works.

If you worked for a living wouldn't you want to be notified when an important email came through? I know I do.

And to add to that, take something as simple as Air View on the S4 and Note II. It's basically quick look on a mobile level. Something as easy and simple makes a huge difference to how an OS can be perceived. It makes it more interactive, fresh without affecting the overall OS.

Yup and if you look at the iPhone 5 years ago, and look at it now, its hardly changed. Sure, its had a very minute UI tweak, and the hardware has changed, but no killer features have actually been added to the OS.

Thinking about it, its a bit like OS X in that respect. It's been stale for a long time, with Apple just replacing the wallpaper and scrollbars and other really minor UI stuff. Sure there are performance enhancements going on in the background, but again, no killer features have been added in a long time.
What "killer features" do you suggest?

People scream for new features, but have no idea what those should be.

Besides how many features do you need?

It's a PHONE for goodness sakes!

I agree as well if someone can come up not only with a better interface but a better battery solution or an OS that allows for better battery life I will be lining up as well.

What can you do on a BB or android u can't do on an iphone? What ? Have a larger screen? Take a picture when you smile automatically ? Lol iOS will update as of now there's nothing I'm missing that a galaxy phone has! They all copied iphone n iOS ! They just keep adding a lot of cool for show or useless time consuming apps every year ! Iphone is still at the top

This video shows a Samsung Note 2 as a PC replacement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nh2NSLgaII

I don't understand how it works or if the iPhone 5 could do the same thing but the video is compelling.

No one is making much ground with anything new they've put out in the smartphone/tablet market in the past year or so. Yeah, big screens have really helped Samsung take off but you can see how that's quickly losing its charm with the criticism of the S4 and how it compares to an S3. The rate of expected innovation has change drastically in the past 5-6 years and if you can't pick up where apple respectably left off with the iPhone 5 then your going to find it hard to please a big crowd. Most of my friends that have android phones or even a Galaxy S3 don't actually utilize the "bloatware" that comes with TouchWiz. They don't even know what TouchWiz is! So again, bigger screens is nothing revolutionary. Everyone has to step their game up.

I smell a Z10 fire-sale in the not too distant future.

i doubt that will happen. they made a mistake with the fire sale on the playbook already. Fire-sale is the worst you can do to a product. you are basically telling your customers to always wait for the fire-sale.

overall, the Z10 is not a bad phone but it is just catching up to where android and ios are.

3.1-95-98-Millenium-2000-XP-Vista-7-8

OS1-9 - 10

iOS 1-6

Competition, which were the mis steps, the ones where the OS did not evolve it jumped

Vista jumped so far it was out of the frame

7 and 8 Jumped

If it works evolve it don't break the training model so people have to re learn

Strange how the shoe industry is influencing people

Blackberry never had innovation so they don't know what it means.

That's funny because if my memory serves me correctly Blackberry was making smart phones way before Apple. In fact one could argue Blackberry helped create the smartphone market because let's face it, prior to Blackberry there wasn't much else to choose from. We had some Palm and Windows phones but do you honestly think those were better than a Blackberry? Give them respect where it is due.

BB and android are innovative ? Lol those guys are funny who innovated the phone industries ? Iphone\apple after that they all copied the iphone and still do . Who perfected the tablet ? Apple came out with the ipad and everyone starting coming out with ipad killers lol apple is ahead of these companies!!!!

How nice of them, while i agree they should be innovating, i also disagree ... Don't change for the sake of change, you have to find a way that is truly better or the hate of the new product will hurt you more like maps

Agree. My girlfriend's Android can do all sorts of flashy things which, when you look closely, are all sort of pointless beyond the wow factor. They're the tech equivalent to the boastful guy at the bar who loves the sound of his own voice. I appreciate the under stated simplicity and user-centric qualities of iOS and will take that over gimmicky software anyday.

Ah, your solution to send a file from one device to other locally is using a remote server?

I carefully worded my response so as not to imply it was MY solution.

I agree there could be better ways of sharing files between people's devices.

Apple's determination is that you don't typically need to, and those that you do (photos, documents, notes, emails) can be handled by iCloud.

I think they picture us living in a world where there ARE no personal files locally on our devices (possibly even including our Macs), but all of our data lives online.

BlackBerry is telling Apple they should learn from BlackBerry's mistake.

The reign of smartphones may be close to an end.

You cannot continue to bring the same thing every year. What more could they possibly do?

It's time to head towards a new direction and bring something completely new. Google is doing it with their glasses, and Apple is trying with the iWatch.

I don't understand what more people can want on a phone?

I've been saying it...

Everything that CEO said is completely true.. no need for every fanboy to get their panties all in a bunch lol. Now with the new iPhone 5S coming out (better camera, chip, battery?) I do not expect any innovation either until perhaps next year maybe!?? The truth is that without Steve, Apple is lacking vision/innovation so they just keep tweaking what was left behind. The 5S will push the competition for new ideas and improvements rather than updating/tweaking the old.
