I'm down for iMessage on every platform! There is no obligation for Apple to do this, but it would be sweet!

Ya, and record labels should be forced to release all new albums on cassette because it's not fair to people using obsolete technology!

He is right. Apple is evil and locks things down. iMessage should be available on my flip phone. Netflix requires internet connection for streaming - discrimination. Blackberry is the true...

ok, can't do it even while typing ;):)
He is funny :D

Next thing you see is some company urging the government to stop Apple from putting iMessage on all devices because they're somehow monopolizing messaging.

Blackberry had an amazing run. I'm not sure they'll ever come back from their fall.

Unlike Blackberry.....

HAHAHA... Who's going to watch Netflix on a Blackberry? With no tablet, there is no mass market to appeal to. It's a gimmick at best on a phone. And BBM has been around since 1999'ish and it came to the other platforms 15 years later. Way to innovate Blackberry. This is why they are on the bottom looking up. Better take that Samsung offer quick.

Well, this is awkward. I don't use iMessages because not all my friends own an iPhone. I wouldn't use the blackberry app because I don't have any friends with a blackberry. I just use my regular texting plan (unlimited) to text friends and family in the US and whatsapp for everybody else.

If one app isn't available everywhere then I simply won't use it. And if apple doesn't care about my needs I won't sue them either. I'll just let the market decide what app comes out ahead.

We need to see this for what it is: Dying people and dying companies sometimes make absurd statements.

I've never understood this sort of argument... the cost of expanding iMessage to multiple platforms would be in the millions. It's not like Apple would simply flip a switch somewhere. How could the government possibly compel a company to create a new service or product out of thin air?

I assume he's not asking for Apple to create apps for every device, but for them to make the standard open so other devices could create support.

I'd like it on my windows computer, but you will never see it on another mobile platform. And there is no monopolization of it because every platform can do some sort of messaging.

Blackberry needs to go belly up. I used to use Blackberry, it was great for emails, but that's about it.
As for John Chen, go to hell dude. You're drunk.

Suppose we should get rid of all proprietary advantage of every platform. I'm still waiting for my turn-key ready Porsche engine to drop in my Yugo. What's up with that Porsche?

After all, it's the only way my car will be able to keep-up with my friends cars...who all just happened to buy Porsches. It's not my fault I chose an antiquated platform.

LOL. Self-serving trash. I'm sure if I make a platform with 0% market share Chen will port BBM to me, no matter the cost? I'm sure when BB was powerful they went out of their way to help Apple, Palm, etc?

RIM - Time to sell yourself and go away. Not wanted anymore.

The government should force Blackberry to support BBM for my PS4, smart TV, Mac and Windows machines just for making this comment.

Very oppertunistic ( spelling ) and not going to happen.

Seems like publicity / very hopeful request that they know themselves isn't going to be granted.

While I don't agree that iMessage should be available to "EVERYONE" I would like if I could access it on my stupid work Windows PC much like Google Hangouts lets me text and message people. Would certainly make life easier when the wife is texting me since I somehow always manage to miss the texts on my phone.

Mighty text. For PC, tablet, ... Text from anywhere.

Because the government forcing things makes everyone happy!

besides apple in this case who would be unhappy with this?

i would argue ios users would want more of their contacts to be accessible via imessage.

i doubt it had any influence on this blog post but apple certainly has made things very hard from people moving on from ios/imessage and people messaging iphone users.

but i dont think the government should intervene here. they should safeguard consumer rights but this should be left to consumer pressure.
