Damn my employer for giving all employees new bb curves this past quarter! ;) and damn them again for not supporting the iphone! ;)

But seriously, as others have said, wake me up when a bb model outsells the iphone without being literally given away.

I just love how all the fanboys comes out and droves the 2nd the iPhone is not number one making excuse X and Y.

it is the same way when there is a new trojan for OSX. They scream not a virus yet at the same time the same thing on windows they scream "Virus look at the new Virus. Windows is so insecure"

Face the facts iPhone hype is wearing off.

True, and the only reason the iPhone is in second place is because Apple counts all the iPhones that are sold as "replacements" for users broken handsets.

Even the ones being sold as service replacements at the Genius Bar.
Do you have a source for that statement?

Once again, I would like to see how many iPhones were sold to people not already owning an iPhone, and to users who weren't buying replacements for their cracked screens.

Most of the iPhone users I know are on their third or fourth handset. So I am more than sure Apple is counting units shipped as units sold, or counting EVERY type of iPhone that leaves their hands as a unit sold.

I would love to own an iPhone if I needed a well rounded smartphone.

However, I need multiple e-mail accounts for work with at least one account as push e-mail.

The BB gives me that and more.

1. Best push service.
2. Multiple e-mail accounts each with its own unique alert tones.
3. Automatic turn off and turn on feature.
4. Different alert profiles.

The only e-mail area that is better on the iPhone is true IMAP software for accounts.

If you need the best all around smartphone, buy a iPhone.

If you need the best e-mail phone for work and not play, buy a BlackBerry.

PS
I am a funeral director and need immediate notification of a death. The BB is the only non-pager, cellular based product to give be what I need, when I need it.

my experience

Well, I think that the iPhone brought the smartphone idea to lots of people who previously would never have considered one. Me included...

Having owned a 3G and then got rid of it I still liked the idea of 'multi function device'

I now have a Nokia E71 that does all I need device wise. Maybe not quite as elegantly or intuitively but still very good.

The total cost of ownership is less than 50% what I was paying for the iPhone.. and yes I still get unlimited internet.... and tethering!

Apple has a replacement program which is tracked differently from sales. You have to give them your old phone as part of the replacement for cracked screens, etc.

Interesting to note that the iPhone is still beating out the BlackBerry Storm, which indicates that in the touch screen market, the iPhone is still on top.

I own both and I can tell you that the Storm is nowhere near as good as the iPhone in regards to form & function. There's no way in hell that anyone considering an iPhone would be swayed to the Storm, phone vs. phone. Of course, there other factors at play but IMO, the Storm is nothing more than salve for those stuck with Verizon and/or a touch screen option for those who require a BB for work. It ain't ever gonna be an iPhone killer or even wounder in its current form.

I'm no fanboy, and I don't even have an iPhone yet (waiting for new version before I make the jump).

People are simply stating facts. Imagine Apple/ATT having a BOGO iPhone sale. Blackberries would be a DISTANT second...at best.

Iphone simply isn't a mainstream product. Blackberry is.

Speaking as a British person who was recently in New York, I was amazed at how many people had Blackberries. Low rent businessmen, high powered execs, socialites, teens and tweens. They were all tapping on their BBs.

Not sure how come Apple ended up with the mainstream on the ipod, but iphones, macbooks and all that - their market appeal is for people who want a beautiful form factor.

The only reason they took the 1st,3rd, and 4th position is because of the BOGO promotion by Verizon Wireless. If they were not BOGO, this never would have happened.

That's what I was thinking. We bought a bunch of Curves for the $99 BOGO free deal. I'm sure that helped the numbers.

Right, but they didn't. Marketing is marketing and BOGO got RIM in the #1 slot. Call it what you want but it worked.

But when you don't make a lot of money giving the farm away, how impressive are the numbers really?

I'm not disputing the fact that they're in the #1 spot. Just pointing out that that's the reason they are...and not necessarily because they've got a superior product or because people like it better.

True, but that doesn't mean that the service replacement you get isn't counted as a sold iPhone.

This article was big news in the past. And I am sure it's still a common practice by Apple. Plus, any service replacement you get from Apple is treated like any normal transaction, you aren't paying for a service, you are paying for a product that has been shipped or is in stock.

Not saying that Apple didn't earn the second seat, just that the BOGO strategy is going hand in hand with Apple's 1 user 3 phones strategy.

That's what I was thinking. We bought a bunch of Curves for the $99 BOGO free deal. I'm sure that helped the numbers.

True, but it got the phones out the door. And the BOGO was something Verizon Wireless was doing. I am sure they had to pay RIM for the phones, just like AT&T pays Apple for it's handsets.

Of Course BB is ahead this quarter

What moron would buy an iPhone now with an expected new model to be released in a month. Come on poll people use some common sence. BB better live it up now before next month hits hard.

Waiting, not debating

My two-year contract with Verizon ended in January, and I am not "vigorously debating" whether or not to buy the iPhone 3G, as Eso claims so many people on this site are. I am waiting for the new model to come out before taking the plunge, as so many people are.

im not suprised that the curve is #1. Work gave me one to use with our BBS for IMing and well i hate the pos. i hate having to carry around 2 phones.

Interesting to note that the iPhone is still beating out the BlackBerry Storm, which indicates that in the touch screen market, the iPhone is still on top..

Although the 3G sold very well at first, it's now barely beating out the Storm. Something like 1.6 million iPhones in the US that quarter, compared to a guesstimated 1.5 million Storms. (Although I bet Storm sales are dropping now too.)

Apple almost needs to bring out more models, so that they can get away from the huge dip its sales take each Spring, as people hold off waiting for the next single iPhone design.

With more models, they can space out updates around the year.

Where are you getting this information from, Skunk???

Many businesses in the UK won't touch the iphone because of the network. Vodafone has a huge majority of the corporate market here, and regardless of a company supporting a specific phone, can't/won't use them.

I'm also sure that they'd get a fair few more sales if the plans weren't so horrendously expensive. The initial cost of the phone (£0 on many tariffs) is irrelevant to someone that isn't buying the 'latest gadget, as seen on tv/school/pub', but the tco of the monthly sub is very high compared to many other phones.

And another thread full of crying fanboys.

With the Blackberry and the new Palm Pre coming up the next iPhone will have a hard time.. especially when Apple doesn‘t get better at quality assurance for their phone.

Well I wouldn't say "everyone" or else the blackberrys would not be selling so great... ;) Competition is always good. It is good that the g1 is selling well too.

Shouldnt be shocking. Everyone is waiting for the new iphone release.
