I'm glad that RIM and Samsung come with those prices.
Next months will be crucial for me to decide the successor of my iPad 1.
Come: present tense. See: iPad2
Will come: future tense. See: Samsung tablet.
May come: conditional tense. See: RIM tablet.

My apologies to the"greens", but these tablets ( and my ipad) will NEVER be a true enterprise product with out some sort of native printing and a FIRST CLASS STYLUS/WRITING APPS. PERIOD.
I use mine in two different business, but it takes drop box, print work-arounds and crude writing apps to use it for business.
I enjoy it for all the other reasosns, but business goes to my MAC AIR.

Samsung 8.9 is...

the best competition against iPad2.

I am an Apple fanboy, love Apple products. Got iPad2 on day1, but....

The Samsung 8.9" has me sold.

iPad 2, say hello to your new sister at my side.

The screen is not 50% smaller. Nice way of making yourself look stupid.

Actually it is less than 50% the screen area of an iPad. Maybe you should check your math before calling someone stupid.

iPad display is about 45 square inches
Playbook display is about 21.5 square inches

Widescreen is great for movie watching, and the spec-lover in me is all over that... but it’s not very flexible for portrait use. (Which is how you hold a tablet one-handed, and is how you see the most content on a web page or scrolling document.)

I hear that the PlayBook is really easy to hold one-handed. If you know what I mean.

Lack of Flash support is the achilles heel of iPad. I hope Jobs gets off his high horse and relents.
Every day that Flash doesn't live on smartphones and tablets (all manufacturers, not just Apple), more content moves from Flash to HTML5. The relevance of Flash decreases a little bit every single day.

I've been an iPod touch owner since 2007 and I've adapted quite well. I also have an iPad and the Skyfire web browser will do Flash movie conversion.

Lack of Flash on portable devices = not a big deal to Joe Consumer

What I'm looking forward to the most is playing with the web browsers on these machines. Our internal business applications run either in a JRE or in a web browser - on iPads we run them as full screen web apps. Works great.

Unfortunately Apple saw fit not to allow full screen web-apps to use the Nitro JS engine, so we're not seeing the same performance bumps there.

I demo'ed a Xoom for a few days - the web app support is frankly atrocious and was basically unusable - unfortunate as we're a Google Apps shop and the integration would have been nice. I don't hold out much hope for the other Honeycomb based tablets.

However, the reviews on the Playbook and WebOS tablets have been pretty stellar about the web browser - so I'm excited to see how webapps work on these (especially WebOS!)

I got confused, but nonetheless the smaller screen results in smaller body which in turn means better portability. Which A LOT of individuals want.

And before calling out irony, "your maths" has an 's' at the end. Thanks for playing.

Display playbook = 7"

Display iPad = 9.7"

That's not half the size.

LOL!!

Way to not understand "numbers". BTW, "maths" is British, "math" is American English.

Dude go back to school. And pay particular attention to learn about diagonal lengths and surface areas of rectangles.

The diagonal is not the only way to measure a screen. I provided you with the numbers for the area of the screen to prove my claim.

I wasn't thinking straight, big deal.

And Thankfully I'm more successful in life than you'll ever be. Thanks.

Blackberry playbook = The IPad 2 killer - you heard it here first.

Look at the specs, their greater or equal to the iPad 2 with the exception of battery life.

If you can't spell "they're" correctly "you're" hardly a credible source.

Battery life is worse because of the specs. Considering that the iPad can play sufficiently high-bitrate videos, I don't see much value in reducing battery life to compete on the basis of specs.

Keep telling yourself that. You'll sleep better at night.

Since it's true (I'm certain) you can enjoy living in a dump.

People like you don't get far in life, sorry to say.

Wrong. Battery life is worse because the size is considerably smaller.

According to the hate, Apple Fanboys are giving those new competitors....it seems like it is the first real competition. Get out of your homes guys and girls and compare.... I own an iPhone 4 and a MBP, but came from and Android phone and guess what? The UI is way better than those ugly millions of square buttons that you see on the iPhone. I still prefer it...because of other reasons like battery and the built in ipod.
Samsung now has the thinnest Tablet with a dual core, plus still better camera and a much nicer UI. I would rather buy that one than the iPad, just because....uhm well i don´t have to send my files (all type of files) by email to myself to transfer them? and maybe i wanna exchange files with workmates without using an adapter the whole time. Maybe i really wanna use and work with that thing than playing games and watching movies or browsing (guess thats what 95% do with their iPad).
Widgets and such is the way to go....i believe iOS will change with iOS 5 to that too.
