Blackmagic today announced that its URSA Cine Immersive camera is now available for pre-order, with deliveries set to start late in the first quarter of 2025. Blackmagic says that this is the world's first commercial camera system designed to capture 3D content for the Vision Pro.

The URSA Cine Immersive camera was first introduced in June, but it has not been available for purchase until now. Blackmagic is asking $30,000 for the device, and it can be pre-ordered from the Blackmagic website.

The camera has a custom stereoscopic 3D lens system with dual 8K sensors, and it is able to capture a 180-degree field of view with spatial audio support at up to 90 frames per second. Captured content features an 8,160 x 7,200 resolution per eye, and there are 16 stops of dynamic range for detail and color accuracy in every frame.

Dual 5-inch HDR touchscreens are included, as is an external color status LCD screen. There are multiple connectivity options, including 12G-SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, and XLR audio ports, plus an 8-pin Lemo connector for power.

There is an included 8TB Blackmagic Media Module that is able to store approximately two hours of 8K stereoscopic video recorded in Blackmagic RAW, and Cloud Store is supported for fast media uploads and synchronization.

I was just about to ask if someone in the industry thought this was reasonable value.
I own a good deal of Blackmagic equipment and have evaluated their broadcast cameras for purchase on a few occasions, comparing them to equipment made by traditional vendors like Sony.

Blackmagic provides tremendous value, especially in the owner-operator video space. Their equipment often has quirks, but for someone like me who would rather spend $30k on a camera chain than $300k, they open up a lot of options.

Honestly $30K doesn’t sound outrageous for a commercial grade camera.
The highest-end cameras have incredible dynamic range or some other specific feature, like 1000 frames per second recording. Not sure how this would compare (would have to wait for reviews) but $30k isn't that much for a professional specialty video camera.

I used to use STILL cameras that cost $30k+

I'm just wondering what cameras the CURRENT Spatial videos were made with... I think Apple bought some VR startup a few years back that made cameras.

I'm hoping that these become staples for the SkyCam (that overhead camera in football games that moves behind the quarterback). I don't need this live, but I would pay a premium to view the footage later. And I'm sure that the networks can use the 2D footage live.

Give me a 15 minute highlight 3D edit of the latest <insert favorite team here - lest I get thumbs down because I like a team other that your favorite team> game and I'll gladly pay $5/game.

A long as it comes with a free AVP I'll take 2!

PS - That camera bump coming to iPhone 19 Pro Max Ultra Elite Gold!
I do think Apple would be wise to come up with a way to record immersive videos with 2 iPhones paired side-by-side with the ultra-wide angle lens. Maybe next year when they can get it to 8K resolution.

The fake 3-D from the single iPhone camera Immersive video does not look good at all. The immersive videos recorded directly from the Vision Pro is much better, but it needs the headset to be worn. Would much rather have it as a separate device for recording.

A third-party app should be able to do that. Not sure there would be enough demand for it to be profitable.

In the pro video market it's not an out in space on price but things have come down considerably where one could say the average pro camera runs $7-10K for the basic body. for what it is, I think it's a bit high with only a fixed lens. Well, at least if it was a mass market pro camera. As a real specialty cam you can be sure apple covered the R&D, the first few pre-production models so its been heavily subsidized since BMD doesn't have to recoup that from sales or it would be more. Canon has a dual VR lens, but you can't record 8KX7K. Thats an insane number of pixels to process and store. So its probably not that crazy a price.

I like all the hot takes from people that clearly aren’t camera people. Haha

A few things, 30k for a professional camera isn’t cheap, but it’s definitely not outside of the norm.

This has two, 8k sensors so that adds to cost. It includes a custom lens which also adds money where other professional cameras don’t include it. It includes an 8tb storage module. Also take into account that they won’t sell a ton of these and this seems like an expected price for an item that might be a rental for most. Their 12k camera is 15k without a lens or storage.

That’s a sign that there is life in the Vision Pro despite all the naysayers here…
There is definitely a life in the Vision Pro !
The life of all the hormonal pre-teens who go to the Apple Store because it's warm and dry, and get a 30-min demo with a bored Apple employee. They know they won't sell the Gizmo Pro but their efforts to make it look useful are laudable.
