Fixed lens no thanks, needs dual 600mm lenses on there.
First—that’s a perfect query for image playground.

Second—being serious, I’ve thought about whether other not a zoom would work for the AVP, it would be like binoculars. And there are perhaps limited instances where it might be cool to get a little closer to some distant objects. But I am coming to the conclusion it’s just not a media type best suited for it.

Honestly $30K doesn’t sound outrageous for a commercial grade camera.

In a comparison of 3 commercial cameras it is cheap compared to the winner which costs ~90K. Then you have to add the lenses and all of the attachments so you are well into 6 digits by the time you are done.

I think Apple bought some VR startup a few years back that made cameras.

I remember when the Phase One digital back (still photos) for a Hasselblad was $45K+. This seems cheap by comparison. It all depends on the return on investment.

sounds like a lot; but pro level gear do cost pro level pricing. At least that's what apple told me anyway.

In any case
step 1 : buy camera for 30k
step 2 : record some "cultured content"
step 3 : sell said content to 30k avp users (who clearly have too much money) for $1 each
step 4 : profit.

Blackmagic is asking $30,000 for the device,
$30,000 is within the price range of professional grade cameras, and thus is a reasonable price since it's not a consumer product. Now compare that to the actions of that greedy corporate scumbag Tim Cook, who allowed a consumer product, the Apple Watch, to be created and priced between $10,000 to $17,000. Yes, I know it was made of 18 karat gold, but it was still only a consumer product with the exact same limited functionality as the less expensive aluminum models.

Split between a few creative people you could get an early start on the content and let it pay for itself. In time the price of the AVP will come down and more people will adopt it. I was one of the few that bought the first iPhone. It was one of the first non-subsidized phones of the time.

Shouldn't it be capable of normal VR content?
Plenty of NSFW content to be made out there if Vision Pro fails. 🤣
Yeah, this device is optimized to approximately equal the AVP's specs, but nothing is stopping software from taking this footage and using it on other companies VR googles. The market for headset 180 video is not going to shrink any time soon.

Time will tell if NSFW content is a deciding factor in VR headset video.

The only thing that is a bit of a downer is is that these are built for 180 capture (i.e. allowing the view to look round a bit by head movement tracking); but the trade off is, this camera is sub-optimal to a traditional aspect ratios 3D movies, so it is a bit of a waste for 3D stereoscopic headsets without movement tracking.

Today I got the email saying my CALF GEN2 (Visinse) camera is ready to ship from ... wherever they are made. It doesn't have the specs of this thing, but it does produce 8K 3D 180-degree immersive video. It will fit into my pocket and it is currently priced at $699. Goes up $200 at the end of the year, according to their website.

If can produce immersive video for my Apple Vision Pro, but also for my Quest 3 (or other Quest models).

Are there any 3D stereoscopic headsets without movement tracking on the market? I used to have one from Sony, but that was ten years ago.

Sony HMZ-T3W Personal 3D Viewer

It is the Point-and-Shoot part of the market.

I think it is safe to say that they are not selling to the same customers. :)

Just to remind people. A regular BM Ursa cine camera is $14,000. And that is already considered low cost, when compared to the other cine cameras from competitors like Red, Arri and Sony.
And this one has 2 of such cameras, and it is a niche product targeted at companies. So I think it is fairly priced for what it is.

The Vision Pro itself can record videos of what you see. It’s much better than the iPhone immersive videos since it uses a pair of cameras.

Apple's iPhone immersive videos can be captured with a pair of lenses as well, it is just limited by the incorrectly small effective pupil distance of the iPhone's lenses.
