Finally, give up a seat to Android users. Too many moans from their camp about the absence of some app on their fancy-schmancy tablets 😂 Let them enjoy Blender at least.

I was surprised to learn that Blender was even working on this in the first place, seeing that cross-platform/open source devs are not particularly fond of Apple's closed ecosystem and proprietary standards (e.g. Metal and the whole history of poor OpenGL support and no Vulkan).

I claim no inside knowledge of user statistics but higher market share does not necessarily equal larger number of users likely to use the app. iPad is so popular that a large number of its user base includes people like my elderly parents.

True, but the numbers are so overwhelming that there’s simply no way there are more potential users on Android than iOS. Plus iPad hardware is far far superior.

I’m one of them. Maybe we’ll find the three others in this thread.
I too buck the trend by having an iPhone with an Android tablet instead of the other way around.

I feel like in a way this makes sense, they already have an Apple Silicon version for MacOS so my guess is it won't take a lot to adapt that app to the TouchUI and release it on iPadOS down the road, but the Android version likely will take more time and work since they don't have any versions to work off of as a base.

The number of tech un-savvy iPad users who use it for trivial things (like my prents) is probably also equally overwhelming.

But as others have pointed out, potential user numbers is probably only one consideration for Blender developers. Apparently there are other licensing/distribution considerations, as pointed out by @Xiao_Xi.

Nobody needs Blender.

iPad already already has all the best-in-class creative apps.

Good luck with Android. Almost nobody owns an Android tablet with specs capable of handling Blender.

Weird flex but ok. As if there are any powerful Android tablets out there. I mean there are Xiaomi tablets but they are not available in all countries.

Could it be that they got wind from Apple that Apple will soon allow macOS to run on iPad Pros?

Considering that the next new generation of MacBook Pros will reportedly come with a touch screen, it seems that macOS is made "touch ready" soon. So could potentially run on iPad Pros as well...

In which case, anyone who wants to run Blender on an iPad Pro, would run Blender in macOS on that iPad Pro...

At that point a native iPadOS version for iPad Pro no longer makes sense.

That too is very probable. I can see the MacPad Pro being a thing which you can just run in Mac Mode or iPad mode.

Blender is a free, open source app. They're a non-profit foundation who don't charge for their software. The only have finite development resources and need to be careful about how they spend their time and money.

If anyone's a bozo, it's you not them.
And with Android on track to be a Desktop OS when it replaces Chrome OS it makes sense I think. I assume that Android is more open source developer friendly than iPadOS anyway. I predict a desktop Android will take more market share from Windows on desktop than Chrome OS ever did.

Everyone is mocking Android tablets but this is about the software not the hardware.

If anything this just goes to show that Apple developer relations have gotten so bad that the platform with inferior hardware is being chosen.

Apple’s product direction is so crazy right now they’ve lost the last bit of developer stability they had. They’ve treated them like garbage for years and iOS 26 for many was the last straw. Especially after Dye quit and it became likely this whole debacle will be walked back over the next few years.

Apple watched Microsoft go through all of this years ago and for some reason have chosen to do it to themselves.

Given apple draconian abusive practices on iOS based devices, I wouldnt be surprised that something in there turned them off.

Apple needs to be forced to relax those rules on these devices.

Example, apple drops support for the iPad Pro 2018 model this year but the device is clearly still capable for some good use.

Apple should allow those owners of such devices to open the bootloader and install another OS and apps.

But we know that Apple fans are the most insane group, which would place Apple ahead of their own benefit.

Just say that you want to be able to sideload apps on an iOS device and watch them go ballistic.

Apple loves their subscriptions, I would pay $100 a month to run macOS on my M4 iPad Pro. I’m not even joking, that’s how much value I’d get in terms of work and life improvements.

The reality is quite the opposite. A huge majority of Android tablets are supper cheap crap, and destined to be used by toddlers and elderly.

There are almost no pro users in the Android tablet ecosystem. If you are a pro and need a tablet for work, you get an iPad. Even those who despise Apple use iPads because it’s the only viable option out there.
