They knew about AS plans - World of Warcraft was native on AS almost as fast as AS was released.

Blizzard just refuses to put any other games on Mac OS and even refuses to updated the re-releases that originally were on Mac OS (Like Warcraft III remastered and Diablo 2 Remastered)
Warcraft III Remastered is on MacOS, though.

It should also be relatively easy to make a MacOS version (at least for AS) of Diablo Immortal since it's being developed for iOS. But I guess Microsoft won't bother about that. :D

Diablo 3 is still the benchmark for addictive, easy to get into action RPG's (Bungie take note) and the ability to play it on my phone is a real treat. The game is due to be monetised via cosmetics and a Battle Pass system. There are no 'energy' limitations or any such nonsense.

My only real question is why there is no Switch port?

You can nowadays play Ios games on Mac OSX. So it is supported too.
Besides that, Diablo is one of those Blizzard games always supported on the mac.

Remember that the game is made by a third-party studio that specializes in mobile donation trash. As a result, it will be reforge-like quality. Blizzard itself is now engaged in removing offensive pictures from games, there are no hopes for AppleSilicone. In the two years since the start of M1 sales, nothing has been adapted except for WoW.
There was a patch for Heroes of the Storm for AS not long ago, after being unplayable on M1 Macs because of a Display Bug. It only took them 1,5 years...

A large D4 is ported to the switch with a high probability. But immortal is a game for milking money, a clone with replaced assets and a logo, there are several dozen such "diablos" in the market, some from the same developer.

I’ve never seen a “free” Blizzard game before.
It’s likely less that it’s monetized using user data and more likely that it’s monetized by other crappy, user-hostile methods (like in-game currency purchases or loot boxes), preferably with a dash of gambling mechanics for good measure.

They would lose what’s like to be millions of dollars from in-game purchases if they did this.
Alas, you’re probably not wrong. It’s probably the reason why we haven’t seen more big name studios putting stuff out for Apple Arcade. For indie titles that wouldn’t really stand much of a chance at pulling in significant revenue as freemium titles, Apple Arcade is brilliant. For a firm that can market the heck out of a game (including prime time TV advertising) or can sell based off name/IP alone and can craft freemium mechanics, freemium is likely far more lucrative than Apple Arcade would be. It’s like expecting Fortnite to be in Apple Arcade (well, except for the fact that Epic’s vision for Fortnite [at least the Battle Royale part of it] seems to have been for it to be a freemium cash cow from the get-go, they sought out assistance from Tencent to help them work out the freemium mechanics, which is what resulted in Tencent’s investment in Epic).

Have you ever seen any Blizzard games 3rd party advertisement? I haven't, so they don't sell your data.
Collecting your Location data, the fact that you are a gamer, and that you own a phone. Plus some apps ask for permission to see what else you got connected on your network. It’s not just add. It’s data collection. Even knowing when you play games the most is data. or better yet how often, and how much you buy IAP. one last one , do you play raids often ( meaning are you into the multiplayer aspect of the game?) all this data can be anonymize ( XD) and shared with other businesses to sell you controllers, gamer merch, and advertise gaming related crap.

Considering that it’s Activision-Blizzard, it crosses all the checkmarks for likely abusive freemium mechanics: mobile, presented as a companion to the main franchise, dormant IP, Activision connection, Tencent connection. About the only checkbox they miss is having an EA connection. Odds are very high this thing has some abusive freemium mechanics. It wouldn’t appeal to me even if I were still more of a gamer or if I had nostalgia for the Diablo IP (I wasn’t a PC gamer growing up, heck, my first current computer was a 2007 MacBook, when I went to college, and all my gaming has been on consoles). But, of course, I’m not really in the target audience for this, I rarely ever play games on my phone (about the only one I do is Pokémon GO, and that’s more because I still get plenty of social reinforcement to pick it up every couple of days or so).

I’ve easily put a few hundred hours into D2, more than five hundred into D3, and now a lot into D2R. Plus something like 600 into Torchlight 2, from the leads of Diablo 2. D4 is looking a bit too teen-oooooh-scary for me, but I’m sure to buy it when it comes out in the year 2057.

2057? Did Blizzard somehow become Valve?!

"In App purchases" - that's the nail in the coffin of that one for me. Any *ahem* game that requires you to buy imaginary stuff with real money in order to progress is not a game, in that it doesn't rely purely on skill, experience or luck, but on the ability or willingness to pour money into it. Relies on the 'Sunk Cost Fallacy' to compel players to pay. "The "core game experience" will always be free" may be true, but also completely futile.

Also, the infantile premise of the thing. Enjoy.

Another 3rd party dumbed down cartoonish cash grab, by the destructors of one of the most epic RPG sequels. Sad to see what Blizzard has become, a company with no soul, profit driven.

Diablo 4 is another poor attempt of the same, their talent sailed with Blizzard North.

So long Blizzard, once a great company putting out quality games.
Let’s see Diablo 4 before we write it off. Diablo 3 one of greatest games of all time.

Well since the only PC support is Windows-only, we should be thankful they’re even developing this for iOS in the first place?

Blizz has pretty much abandoned the Mac now.
It’s for iOS because iOS/mobile was always first, then ported to the PC. Because the PC market is so huge.

Free to play, hard pass, that means either ads, insane IAP / pay to win or data collection/sale.

Just place a reasonable price on your game and I will decide if I want to buy it.
I was a subscriber to WOW since 2003 and a big Diablo fan but the way Blizzard has changed to “free” to play caused me to not renew WOW for the first time since it was released. And knowing how it works, it will be a pass for me too.

Diablo Immortal is a free to play title with Blizzard monetizing the game through in-app purchases, though the company says the "core game experience" will always be free.
There it is. Free to play, but pay to win. The cheap or poor will be fodder for those with daddy's Visa/Master Card. The PvP part will insure only those willing to pay will win. Diablo's Grand Mace of Smiting is an super, ultra, deluxe, special rare drop, but can be purchased for a paltry $10. Tired of being weaker than Wirt?? Buy yourself some set gear and show Deckard Cain who's daddy.?

I'd rather pay once and get to enjoy the entire game without DLC.
