I think it’s very sad that nobody is mentioning, how apple screwed the company which developed this technology. Now they again try to work around instead of polite solution and paying on the damages they caused the company 🙁

Some of us have taken note and are saying it.

It's tough to wade through the ADF (Apple Defense Force) often present around here though.

If one reverses the situation and makes it so "Apple is the one with IP being infringed upon", it becomes easy to see who is sycophantic and who is objective and rational.

Still, while I don't believe it's a great workaround, it still weakens Masimo's position; and so to me, this is a turning point in this particular fight. Masimo needs to deal now, or go home with nothing.

Think about what you just said here ... the big bully (Apple) with the huge clout and bank account is forcing their way to what they want -- eventually.

You don't actually like that, right?

Nor are they be required to.

There is no rule where "X huge mega corp" comes along and says we want to license your IP ... and you have to.

That doesn't then give X huge mega corp the right to do it anyway, or bully you, or anything else.

None of us should be defending how Apple comported themselves here.

(not saying you specifically are defending Apple -- but too many are)

Imagine if some company came along and insisted on being able to license IP from Apple, but "Apple refused to do it for a reasonable price" ... Just imagine the forum thread here.

I've never been around a fan site that is THIS deep in cult like defense of everything the company does.
It's truly shocking how some will defend literally ANYTHING Apple does or says.
I agree 100%

OK I am confused. I have both an Apple Watch 8 and 10. If I do the update and do a BO test on the Series 8, will it still show on the Series 8 watch itself, but on the Series 10 it will show only on the iPhone? Or will the Series 8 now move to only show on the iPhone going forward?

It sounds like this is a workaround for those models that were as of recent, not working due to the lawsuit. So the s8 should still function as normal on the watch and now the s10 will function but will have to be checked on the phone until perhaps the patent runs out??

Not saying I agree with apple ethics....

Just read the actual press release, and my interpretation is this is just a stopgap, likely to convince holdouts that it's okay to upgrade to a new model, as they will no longer be losing O2 saturation measurements--though they'll have to view the measurement on the iPhone only. Users that never lost the O2 sat feature, will still operate as before where you can view the result on the watch.

I'm sure Apple is not over the moon about having disparate experiences depending on whether your watch was purchased before or after the ban--I imagine once the patent expires, or they are given some other allowance, that they will update the software again to operate as originally intended.

Google “history of blood oxygen sensor” then google “‘masimo founded year”.

Do I understand correctly that in order to get around the Massimo patent all apple had to do was send data to the paired iPhone, process it, and send it back to the watch? If so that's a pretty dumb patent... the only thing novel is having the watch process the data?

😍 2025 could turn out to be Apple’s best year as long as they release a solid iPhone 17 Pro Update and Apple Watch as well.
That is until the price is announced. If it remains at the psychological sub 1k mark for the iPhone, then okay. If its north of $1k base price, I do not think the sales will be that great. The watch remains stagnate at the moment with no compelling reason to upgrade for majority of people.

I got it replaced with a refurb because I had to replace the battery. The replacement doesn't have the Blood oxygen functionality enabled on it
Ah well yes, that wasn't included in the original query. I don't think they've outlined what will happen with the refurb'ed units. Tis an interesting question indeed since my father has my old s6 thats also refurb'ed for battery warranty.

But, why is the functionality supposedly broken on your series 6? They didn’t disable it in older watches. It was only disabled when the injunction went into effect partly through series 9. I have an early series 9, and it works fine.
I had my S6 replaced and the replacement S6 has the Blood Oxygen functionality disabled

So, how to contact support and get it restored on Series 6+, my series 7 had feature disabled after repair and we have all rights to get it back working!
