curious how this is gonna work and would like more details besides what the presser already says.
False, it is highly accurate when taken intentionally, ie you keep your arm still and the watch is properly adjusted. The automatic tracking is bad because you're moving your arm around and probably dont wear the watch tight enough. So basically Apple DID breach the patent as it has had to change how the feature works to make it legal. Well at least they came up with a workaround. Personally I've never found the feature to be very useful as it is wildly inaccurate anyway.
Sir this is just a Workaround at the moment. In 2028 Masimo’s patent expires and Apple will be able to use the patent without having to pay for it and you can get the readings directly off the Apple Watch again ⌚️Apple is not paying Masimo $100 per device that would run into the billions.More dependency on the iPhone isn’t a good thing. Too much and the appeal of the cellular model will go down hill then folks will be asking themselves why I have a watch at all when I also have a phone nearby.
I have to say with the Siri debacle, I can’t see this being its best year. I mean they have provided no evidence that they even have Siri going yet today. We just hope it comes out 18 months after it was promised with iPhones 16? So to me hardware sales with broken promises doesn’t equal best year ever.😍 2025 could turn out to be Apple’s best year as long as they release a solid iPhone 17 Pro Update and Apple Watch as well.
Companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung use their patent portfolios as bargaining chips to essentially share or license technologies with each other. The difference with Masimo is that they aren't willing to license their patent to Apple for a reasonable price per unit.If injunctions are that easy, we should have had them against all Samsung and Android devices back in the 2010s![]()
So does that mean the following:I’m no patent expert but seems ridiculous that “processing it on device” can be trademarked— it must be the way it’s being processed on the device bypassed. If injunctions are that easy, we should have had them against all Samsung and Android devices back in the 2010s![]()
It’s been like that with other apps used on the watch, like what’s the point of it now when it needs you to use your phone for almost every little thingRidiculous that you can’t see results on the watch itself…

Small company? Compared to Apple, sure; but then again almost everyone is small compared to Apple.Congrats to apple on crushing a small company rather than engage in a licensing deal.
I have checked my watch readings while being tested at doctors office and it has been within 1% consistentlyDoes anyone know if it's actually accurate? My mom had breathing issues and has blood oxygen of around 82% according to professional equipment, however I have measured it with an Apple Watch and it said it was around 94-96%...
Nonsense, rumors say that the “small” company asked for $100 license fee per watch …Congrats to apple on crushing a small company rather than engage in a licensing deal.
Garmin is great, but until they have cellular on device, Apple Watch wins for me.That's nice.
They still violated patents according to the the top ITC court, and still refuse to pay royalties therefore resulting in this half-a** solution.
Not that I particularly care; I gave up on the Apple Watch a few months back and returned to Garmin. I need about 90% more fitness features, and 90% less smartwatch features before coming back.

You’ll probably be able to use the cellular AW to CALL the phone and someone nearby could check the O2 level for you, with a remote screen unlock function on the AW of course. For those of us itching to upgrade to a cellular AW so we can leave our iPhone at home for extended periods of time, I wonder how this would work for those days we leave the iPhone at home. Or forget it etc.
It wasn’t banned by Apple, it was banned by a courtOnly USA Apple Watch S9, S10 and Ultra 2s that had LW/A on its part number. All other countries don’t have it banned since it’s a patent conflict that is us only
If you want to know something, just read beyond the headline. The answer to your question is. right. there.I hope us non-US folks will still have the ability to see the results on the watch itself. We never lost the O2 measurement capability.
My original Ultra still gives me the reading just nicely.
I think it’s very sad that nobody is mentioning, how apple screwed the company which developed this technology. Now they again try to work around instead of polite solution and paying on the damages they caused the company 🙁FINALLY!!!
I hope this doesn’t get overruled again though.![]()
