I'm being to get a little disappointed for the holy grail 5.4" to replace my SE.

months back when rumours circulated that the 2020 phones would get a redesign, I had hoped that the 5.4" would be designed that way, but with the latest rumours that there are four devices and that only the Pros will get the redesign (and presumably smaller notch) that leaves me out luck.

I now assume the lineup to be:

iPhone 12: 5.4" / 6.1"
(iPhone 6 profile)

iPhone 12 Pro: 6.1" / 6.7"
(iPhone 4 profile)

I'm sad. 😢

Silver lining - I prefer a brushed finish to polished stainless steel and I have a feeling that they'll make the arguably wrong decision to keep the polished finish, giving it a flat mirror surface.

If that's the case It'll show fingerprints and imperfections even more clearly than the X / 11

Realistically, every model of iPhone 12 will get a redesign without having the notch to differentiate from iPhone 11.

All the iPhone 12 will get the same design...

Exactly, it ruined the valuable real estate and screen design that makes iPhone X-11 looks stupid.
The alternative to the partial bezel (notch) isn’t no notch at all—its a full width bezel. Compared to a full width bezel, the ears allow extra display area, where none would otherwise exist.

Except for a few non-customers on the internets, it seems no one much cares about the notch 🤷‍♂️
less than 1% of people think this way.
Agreed, 99% of customers simply don’t care all that much. iPhone 11, in particular, was by all accounts a smash hit.

But it’s good the notch is getting smaller, it’ll allow for more display area with the same sized screen. In 2023 or so, it’ll be even smaller, and be totally subsumed into a small bezel by 2025 or so.

I’m sure the iPhone 4 had a polished stainless steel version prototype back then and I bet Steve Jobs went with the brushed finished because He didn’t like the finger print smudges on the polished version.

While we're at it, why not Ferrari pace in a Ford Mondeo, for the same price? What are you talking about.

it’s pretty easy to understand... whenever a new model comes out, the price usually goes down compared to the previous model, right? Well instead of making a smaller version, I suggested that Apple beefed-up that existing model with better sound but retain that same price tag instead of going down. Do you get it now???

I won't buy another iPhone or iPad mini till they have flat sides, those round skinny edge ones are like trying to juggle a wet bar of soap, Steve knew good design, unlike his boring substitute.

So.. iPhone X mixed with the 4/4S. Perfect. I want the 6.7" with 512 GB of storage in the new blue color option.

You clearly hadn’t listened to any decent speaker is you think the HomePod has ‘excellent’ sound. For the same price you can buy a decent pair of speakers with much better sound quality. They definitely need to improve sound quality if they want to sell a speaker at that premium price.
But I do agree with you, to appeal the masses (who don’t care about hifi sound), they also need to release a MUCH cheaper alternative.

It certainly has the best sound of any "smart" speaker.

The HomePod already has excellent sound.

It needs to be smaller and cheaper to appeal to more people.
Yes, but i agree on a bigger version,
I want a premium version next to a cheaper version.
A bigger one with a better soundstage. I would get 2 of them immediately.
it won’ t replace the high end with separate amplifiers , expensive cables and high end speakers. But at 500 for one, could mean a Great sounding stereo set up for $1000.

The main importance of 5G is to deal with congestion, which is a growing problem. Maybe not for you or me yet, but for many it is and it'll get worse quickly unless 5G can start to take on some of the pressure over the next years.

For 5G to work, people need 5G devices, which are now at the cost of minimum $400?! After the Covid pandamic forget people wasting that kind of money on new luxury devices. To see the benefit you will need years until everyone upg I am also not sure how carriers will make money out of 5G, will they charge more than they charge for 4G service? forget people paying that.

Yes congestion is bad, maybe its bad in cities with high volume people walking the streets, but for most people 4G is running everything they want just fine.

USB-C USB-C all together now... USB-C!!! If it's a "pro" model, it needs usb-c like the iPad Pro. Come-on now Apple, you can do it.

3.5 years ago Tim Apple introduced Macbook Pros with USB-C only ports because they want to push forward the "future port", for years he forbade Apple Pro users the convenience of having USB-A(which is still the dominant port), SD card readers, and HDMI. 3.5 years later he still refuses to ship iphone with USB-C 🤣🤣🤣

Going back to an old design which was good but after waiting 3 years its not enough, Underscreen touch ID or digital buttons would be a nice change and appreciated

What are you talking about. The notch is ugly. Looks stupid compared to modern android phones.

I will not be buying another iPhone with a notch. You don’t know how many customers there are that are like me.

Given the amount of millions who buy the iPhone with a notch I would say not that many...

Obviously we would all like a non notch but it’s needed for the most superior unlock method and the best for security for at least another year or two.

If you want to wait that’s up to you

Agreed. Apple and Tim Cook is spoiling the fourth generation design of iPhone if it can't produce a good orthodox screen design for the iPhone 12.

The notch seemingly is a complete non-issue to many. Yes some claim they don’t like it and won’t buy another phone with a notch, but Apple has picked its side on this.

Tim Cook care more about the profits and that's why the newer Apple products are not that much better or in some cases far worse than the competition.

Most people don’t know what they don’t know until they experience something better. Look at 120hz high refresh screen for instance. You wouldn’t know you need it until you use a phone with it. once you do it’s hard to go back.

bottom line is we are RIGHT that the notch is ugly and looks stupid. Whether people buy the phone still is irrelevant.

Which says people don’t care about it. I would rather it not be there but it being there isn’t a big deal either. Believe it or not for the average user it doesn’t matter.
