Am I the only person who likes the notch? I know some company’s kind of have notchless but if we’re just comparing the iPhone and iPad Pro, the iPhone only has a notch because of how small the bezels are are. And the info in the notch would still be there. I’d rather a notch than wasted real estate without.

Slimmer notch? Why? I thought it was "invisible" to iphone users.

Also, no one gets excited over 5G. The Corona Virus pandemic has sent the deployment of this new technology some years into the future. Businesses and people will take some time regain their money and profits and build back, carriers are not looking to spend money. Probably keep their 4G golden goose for now.

Smaller notch makes sense, I always assumed the reason we got 5.8” as the smallest size and not a iPhone 6/7/8 sized device was the dog-ears would be too small to display menu info. Smaller notch = smaller phones.

I love the look and feel of my iPad Pro 12.9” (2019) and will upgrade my iPhone 11 Pro Max if they return to the stainless band design of the iPhone 4/s with the upcoming iPhone 12’s. That was one of the best looking iPhones (imho), and since they’ve long ago figured out the antenna issues, there shouldn’t be any reason not to go back to the stainless band design.

Reducing the size of the notch would be nice, but I’m one of those people that really doesn’t think about the current notch. It is nice with the iPad Pro having the front cameras integrated into the bezel (and the resulting all-screen look that you get), but you kind of need the added thickness of the bezel on the iPad just to hold onto it without impeding too much screen with your fingers. With the iPhones, that’s not the issue, so minimal bezels forces the camera and top speaker into the notch area.

Honestly, I’m aiming for the 5,4” iPhone, and I can accept the aluminum body, but I’d really like a flat edge design just like the iPad Pro.
Im the exact same! I’m really hyped for the 5.4”, and happy for the aluminium body. But I pray that it follows suit and has the same design as iPad Pro 🙏🏼

You are stereotyping, it's a sad way to look at life and misrepresents the many different people and their varying feelings about their smartphones. Why not be happy for people that they enjoy what they have and are excited upcoming stuff?

Yeah there will be a delay but I think it's going to get back on track a bit quicker than you think after this. Here in Canada Rogers switched on 3.5GHz 5G in four cities this year just before Covid19 hit and they'll be looking to expand on that. Also considering how much the spectrum cost they'll need to see some income generated from it when possible, rather than letting the investment sit unused.

The advantage of Sub6 5G is that it has better coverage in populated areas than mmWave and can be installed on existing towers so deployment could be picked up quickly again when things get better. They'll also start to roll out 600MHz 5G as that doesn't need more towers (though still new equipment in the network ofcourse).

The main importance of 5G is to deal with congestion, which is a growing problem. Maybe not for you or me yet, but for many it is and it'll get worse quickly unless 5G can start to take on some of the pressure over the next years.

or how about:

no. damn. notch.
Me with every non techy family membor or friend:
Me: ”so does the notch bother you?”
Them: ”the what?”
Me: ”the notch on the top of the screen.”
Them: ”what are you on about?”
Me: ”the cut out with the Face ID and speaker.”
Them: ”its a great camera, I love it.”

My point is, 99% of customers don’t notice, care, or even know about the notch

I don’t mind it, I actually think it looks cool. I’m not a fan of the “hole punch” look that some Android phone manufacturers use. If Apple could get rid of the notch entirely though, I wouldn’t complain.

USB-C USB-C all together now... USB-C!!! If it's a "pro" model, it needs usb-c like the iPad Pro. Come-on now Apple, you can do it.

Phones are so fast these days I could probably get another couple years out of my XS Max. Especially in this economic climate.
My 6s runs very well, and the battery I had replaced last August is still at 100%. Assuming software support, any iPhone starting with the 6s is good for at least five years.

Scattered thoughts:

The notch is and always will be a ‘Non-issue’. Period. If Apple does/is able to minimize it with the maturity of technology, then great. But otherwise, it could stay the way it is for all I care.

I’d like to see something happen with the HomePod this year, Not that it doesn’t produce good sound/‘need’ an upgrade in that respect, but to keep it relevant in Apple’s lineup, Maybe introduce a smaller version.

The Apple tags will happen, there’s definitely a market for this, I’m just curious how Apple will price these in a ‘grouped segment‘.

personally I hope Bloomberg got the HomePod aspect all wrong. Apple should create a full sweet of wireless speakers to be used with and agnostic to the HomePod as in: dedicated woofer, sound bar, satellite tweeters/mids. The latter can be used in any room in the household while the others are specific to ATV and your Tv home theatre system.
Others stay this isn’t worth it yet Apple does make various headphones with Beats lineup.
Beats is still a strong brand in and of hitself, especially with youth (mostly teens), and athletes so on a previous report from Last week I think it’ll continue to stay.

I don’t have exact numbers, but based on what I have seen in public... The VAST majority of people wear a case on their phone. They won’t see OR feel the flat edges.

And the people that don’t wear a case? They’ll get used to it. You don’t have to SQUEEZE the phone super hard when you’re grabbing/using it. It won’t be bad at all.

yeah it doesn’t matter to people who wear case. Myself don’t like a case, I always use my phones naked. I used to have sony xperia, the size of the phone was probably like XS and sold it after a few days because it turned out I didn’t like android OS and the flat edges made my hands hurt after 30 minutes.

Meanwhile flat edges on SE sized phone like SE and iPhone 4S looked cool and usable, but anyway I’m all in for this new flat edges design Just for the sake of change though, we’ve been too long using this iphone 6 based design. From 6 to 11 (2014 to 2020).

The 4 and the X are the best looking iPhones in my opinion

if only I could get an iPhone 4 sized phone with a thickness of the SE and a full screen like an X. That would be my dream phone. The 5.4” sounds good too me for the time being. Better than nothing.

I'm being to get a little disappointed for the holy grail 5.4" to replace my SE.

months back when rumours circulated that the 2020 phones would get a redesign, I had hoped that the 5.4" would be designed that way, but with the latest rumours that there are four devices and that only the Pros will get the redesign (and presumably smaller notch) that leaves me out luck.

I now assume the lineup to be:

iPhone 12: 5.4" / 6.1"
(iPhone 6 profile)

iPhone 12 Pro: 6.1" / 6.7"
(iPhone 4 profile)

I'm sad. 😢

Silver lining - I prefer a brushed finish to polished stainless steel and I have a feeling that they'll make the arguably wrong decision to keep the polished finish, giving it a flat mirror surface.

If that's the case It'll show fingerprints and imperfections even more clearly than the X / 11

Changing the case from round to square is really no big deal. Hopefully iOS 14 compensates as well as the 5G

less than 1% of people think this way.
