Gurman is wrong. The M1 iMacs are only getting new vintage color options to match their, now vintage, processor technology. /s

Honestly, I am not expecting M3 chips earlier than WWDC 2024. Based only on previous M1 and M2 announcements. Both of them were introduced at WWDC
I'd argue that the AX chips (which became the M series) has long been on an 18 month cycle, which effectively skips every 3rd A series architecture. M1 products announced in October 2020, M2 in June 2022, M3 in late 2023/early 2024? Given the A17 is out, I'd say the only thing stopping M3 being released in the next few weeks is if they're struggling with yields and want to build up supply for a Spring 2024 release. Just my 2 cents :)

Better displays for the MBP? Sweet, but I think the desktop displays need a bump more urgently.

It would be nice to see the M3, or even the M3 Pro/Max this early.
The sooner they are released the sooner / deeper they can be discounted :p
Even better, it'll probably be possible to get 15~20% off during the holidays by stacking gift cards.

If this is true then i wouldn’t be surprised if they release the new 14” and 16” MacBook Pro. The ones with M2 Pro/Max chips were supposed to be released last year around October/November - Gurman said that and it was also somehow proven by some people shortly after they released them. Maybe they want to wait for M3 Air because 1. the new 15” still released later than Pros which means it would be even shorter period of time and 2. because they placed more orders for regular M2 instead of Pro and Max chips so they want to use them all

What' the point in being able to create 24MP HDR stills and 4K HDR video content on one's iDevice if one cannot then further "develop" that content or just set back and enjoy it's output in its full resolution and brightness and dynamic range in which it was created?!

There is a vital tool missing in the chain, full-resolution HDR displays for the "rest of us".

The DNA of both Steve and Tim's Apple (by their own words and actions) is about what one sees, what one hears, what one can create and I full well expect HDR iMacs and HDR Studio displays are in the pipeline to fill out their product line.

"Bicycles for the mind" and all that! :)
A mini-LED, 120hz iMac Pro with M2 Max/Ultra is long overdue - I think we've been waiting on ThunderBolt5 for this, I know it was officially introduced a few months ago so I'm sure we're getting closer to this reality :)

"The last time the company posted its quarterly results in the month of November was in 2018, and that followed an October 30 launch event that saw new iPads and Macs."

Now this is a bit of a stretch? A weak correlation at best 👌, don't ya think?

I really hoped for a new iMac this year, not just because mine is long overdue for an upgrade (though that's part of it :p), but because 2023 marks 25 years since the first iMac came out in August 1998, and a 25th anniversary iMac would probably be a really interesting and awesome device.

M3/Pro/Max seems unlikely, except Mac sales were terrible this year and they desperately need some selling points.
Plus we know they booked the all the 3nm TSMC capacity so its possible to produce those chips if those are in fact finished.
and, hell, i'd like some raytracin' gamin' on my new macbook pro.

I don’t think they will announce the new M3 Mac mini on this event, but man if they did, I would probably pull the trigger and get one with at least 24GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD.

Mind you, my 2014 Intel dual core Mac mini is still healthy and does its job pretty well with the latest version of Monterey, but the new features of Sonoma and the Apple Silicon platform look very appealing… we’ll see, I want to make a long term purchase. For another 10 years if possible.

And if there’s a new smaller 12” MacBook, I’m getting one 100%

All we can do is go on "past performance" - and with both the M1 and M2 the "Pro/Max" versions used in the 14/16" MBP have lagged the basic M1/M2 by 6-10 months. We haven't seen the basic M3 yet. Even if the current MBPs were supposed to have launched last October, that would have been 4 months after the M2 MacBook Air launched.

So while anything is possible, it would be surprising for the M3 Pro/Max MBPs to appear before a regular M3 MacBook Air.

I doubt that the Mini would be that close to the front of the queue for new tech. I suspect the original M1 Mini got an early release because it was needed as a replacement for the Apple Silicon Developer's Transition Kit (which became useless as soon as the M1 launched).

My guess. iMac M2 with M2 Pro option, MacBook Pro M3 chips, iPad mini updated.

No more M1 Air, iPad 9

Not sure what will happen with MacBook Pro 13.

Whatever happens I hope they raise the base level of ram! I have a base spec air for work which is just basic office stuff and it always goes yellow with basic operations.. and while I’m feeling hopeful I’d like to wish for cheaper SSD upgrades 😂

Just had a look on the Mac site in the UK, BTO Mac mini with 32GB ram the 12 core M2 Pro and a 8TB SSD arrives under a week on 1 NOV one with standard M2 Pro and you will get it on Wednesday 25th October, and considering they were updated to Pro 2's in January I don't see them being updated again this year tbo. BTO 24" iMac with 16GB ram and a 1TB SSD iMac arrive in two days, Wednesday 25th October and its Monday the 23rd right now, a 2TB iMac is about a month away though. Studio displays the standard 2 day delivery time, and a fully maxed out 16" Macbook Pro arrives by the 13-20th so I dont see really long waiting times on hardware unless you want a 2TB 24" iMac.

All those Electron apps are killing your Mac. You can at least get the WhatsApp Catalyst app from https://www.whatsapp.com/download that will use 1/5 of the ram the Electron version is using.

For the entire range(s) of M1 and M2 Macs, Apple has consistently led with the lowest end Macs, with the lowest end "plain" M chips of each respective generation, and ended with the highest end, most powerful Macs with the most powerful chips of each respective generation.

Baiting consumers initially with a "new, best ever" plain M3 Macs, like Air, 13" Pro, 24" iMacs, and then not offering any M3 Pro or better M3 Mac for the next 3-6 months serves to maximize sales of M3 Macs that would be (comparatively) unimpressive and low value/$ if they stood next to the Macs with M3 Pro, Mac and Ultra.

If Apple switches this up and serves up M3 Pro, Max or Ultra Macs among the first M3 offerings, then they've completely changed their sales strategy for Mac.

Not impossible. But altogether extremely unlikely.
