Baiting consumers initially with a "new, best ever" plain M3 Macs, like Air, 13" Pro, 24" iMacs, and then not offering any M3 Pro or better M3 Mac for the next 3-6 months serves to maximize sales of M3 Macs that would be (comparatively) unimpressive and low value/$ if they stood next to the Macs with M3 Pro, Mac and Ultra.
...but then the Mx Pro/Max versions are larger, more complex chips - albeit built around the same core designs - so it actually makes sense to get the simpler chip rolling off the production lines and making money before putting the more complex chips into production.

One of the major expectations of the M3 is likely to be better battery life, and the MacBook Air is the perfect showcase for that.

I am just about to buy a Mac Studio M2 Ultra. Surely an update after only a few months can't be on. Though I have seen reductions in the UK for this machine of £200 & £400.
Nobody knows for sure, but it seems pretty unlikely - with both the M1 and M2 there was a long wait between the regular chip and the Pro/Max versions in the MBP, and an even longer wait for the Ultra version and the Studio. So far, we haven't even seen the regular M3.

All iMac models are available for delivery tomorrow in Australia
Customize one in US and it goes to Nov 20th

Release new products on Halloween? Really, when the entire focus is on Trick-or-Treating kids? My guess is no.

There won't be an event. There will be a big press release unveiling the M2/M2 Pro 24" iMac, now with mouse, keyboard and trackpad now charged using USB Type C ports.
You would have thought they would have done that with the Mac Pro refresh since it and the iMac are the only two that include a mouse and keyboard in the box.

Ming 'the Merciless' Kuo "no new Macs this year" vs Mad Mark Gurman "New Macs in a week". FIGHT!
Kuo draws first blood with There are no invites for an event, but Gurman quickly counters with a combination of online events and product updates.
But, the truth is, we are only here to see a Mortal Combat style fatality. Who wouldn't pay good money to see Gurman rip out Kuo's router in a shower of sparks, or Kuo to crush Gurman's Monitor for the negative Nellies that root for Ming the Merciless.

I would like a new 24" iMac that can support 2 x 4k external displays, so I can fit it between my two LH 24" UltraFine displays for a triple display setup.
since the $599 M2 Mac Mini does support 5K + 6K external displays, this is a certainty on the next 24" imac.

It would be amazing if the next 24" imac becomes a 27" (again) and they announce (but not yet release) the 32" imac (pro?)

I think the updates will be M3 and include Macs that do not have the option of a M2 Pro/Max:
  • M1 iMac (April 2021) -> M3 iMac (Oct/Nov 2023)
  • M2 13" MacBook Pro (June 2022) -> M3 13" MacBook Pro (Oct/Nov 2023)
  • M2 13/15" MacBook Air (June 2022/23) -> M3 13/15" MacBook Air (Oct/Nov 2023)
I don't see them releasing any updates to M2 Pro/Max based machines, I would be surprised. Bonus could be an iPad update.

If they don’t put the M4 in iMac I think they have disowned it as a device category. M3 is so 2023, M4 is for 2024. So realistically you’d have at most 2 months of longevity out of it before it’s discontinued.

Apple's big announcement will be its transition from 8GB to 12GB of memory... hehehe
Here's why I think you're correct.

1. 12GB doubles to 24GB which the regular M2 can be upgraded to.
2. I suspect plenty of people upgraded to 16GB, but not many upgrade to 24GB to where it's simpler for Apple to maintain two RAM upgrades instead of three.

So we'd have 12/24 on the general purpose chips and 16/32/64 on the performance chips.

But I doubt Apple will bump the RAM without a new computer.

I’ll predict that if something happens at all, it’ll just be an iMac spec bump to M2. Maybe some tweaks to storage options Or RAM. No event, just press release. The iMac is the slowest-moving machine in the lineup. It wouldn’t shock me at all if there was no M3 for the iMac for another year.

Apple needs to jump to the M3 sooner than later. Why? Because they absolutely need a jump in performance, as the M2 are being leapfrogged by the competition, and things are getting worse in the future. And in the future Apple needs to shorten the refresh time for Macs from 18 months to 12 months.
