Regarding displays, it seems Apple has kind of backed themselves into a corner. Everyone seems to want a 32-inch standalone monitor for their Mac, but due to Apple's self imposed 'Retina' PPI requirements, it would have to be 6K, which would be much too expensive for the regular consumer market.

Meanwhile, Windows users have been using 32-inch 4K displays with no issues for years. Of course, these work fine on a Mac as well, but Apple has taught everyone that if it's not Retina it's 'not good enough'.

No, I want something in the cloud as well as the physical backups I have.

It may be hard for you to understand but not everybody has the same requirements nor is as cost sensitive as you.

I've used a few different cloud backups over the years.. Currently looking at replacing Arq.. lack of response from their support staff when errors/questions need responses.. has been frustrating..

Yes, if you live in an area with lots of lightning and other severe wx, at least one off-site backup is a must..

My gut says maybe an iMac update to M2/Pro or M3..

If, and it's a big if, we see an M3 iMac, we should see 13" M3 Air as well... 15" Air maybe as well... The Air would seem to be a better selling device and an update before the holiday shopping season would likely boost sales... so if the M3 is ready for the iMac...

MBP update? They *could* shock us by having M3 Pro and M3 Max chips and MBP updates earlier than we'd expect? It would hardly be as big a leap in performance per $ as it was when Apple went from the Iivx to the Centris 650 within months... So hardly unprecedented... But... Is M3/Pro/Max production that far along?

I'm thinking any MBP change will be a silent update to the more efficient displays that happens with the product pages getting updated while the store is down during the event...

If there's an event..

If any additional updates happen in 2023 at all ..

I feel like the entire iPad lineup really needs a rethink/reorder/simplification.. But, if they were going to have an iPad event this fall, why wouldn't they hold off on the Pencil update until the iPad update??? So...

Magic 8 Ball says... "Check back later"
I'll take a 27" iMac M2 over 24' M3. But most likely scenario is Tim's classic side shuffle to 24" M2.

I am GENIUNELY wondering if this is going to happen or not. This is the most "will it or will it not happen" event in a long time. It almost seems like absolutely nothing is going to happen. BUT, then, it also feels like out of the blue they could straight up run the event and release new machines.

This one is a totally mystery

I have no supply chain connections, nor anyone inside Apple to spill some juicy details. My guesses are through a business-minded lens with emphasis on Apple's favorite pursuit: "another quarter or record revenue & profit."

That alone has made me believe there WILL be an October event all along... even in the face- at times- of it looking like there would be little to show... and/or proclamations by the paid pros that there would be no more releases.

This is the most lucrative quarter in which wallets open widest and debt gets taken on at record levels. All businesses do everything they can to maximize sales in this prime quarter more than any other. This makes or breaks a year for most companies... as there is no making up for poor holiday quarter sales in the other three.

So I think there will be SOMETHING, probably underwhelming to this crowd... but anything else ready to launch that won't inhibit holiday sales of everything else also for sale seems very likely to me.

That's what drives me seeing M2 iMac instead of M3 because M3 would likely inhibit sales of all other Macs for those who opt to delay their purchase on the assumption their target Mac will go M3 soon. And besides, the wonder product doesn't seem likely to launch with "old tech" if M3 is already out for 3-6 months by launch day. So if M3 hits in the next 3 weeks, Vpro likely upgrades to M3. Or if Vpro is locked on M2, then M2 is the only thing that really makes sense 3-6 months before the dazzling next big thing can be purchased.

While I expect M2 iMac as the headliner, I'd welcome the M3 surprise because I'm also interested in Vpro and I'd rather see it get "forced" into the upgrade than being the very last thing to launch with M2, barely ahead of first things with M3.

I agree with you te the “wallets wide open”, which would make perfect sense for new iPads, esp regular and/or Air… seems like a lost opportunity in my book

Take a look at the size and weight of the Ultra Studio's heatsink and fan; it's definitely not suited to a laptop.
Well, you are wrong!

I need a new 27" or even 32" iMac, my 2017 intel is getting kinda old.
M2 or M3 I wouldn't even care much, but c'mon Apple, can't be that hard...

cheers.

Apple is becoming a spec giant, rather than prioritizing design.

I would love to sport two 4k's (24 or 27), in pretty colors, anticipating high prices than other brands.

It's just that the studio display is overspecked, and thus absurdly overpriced, for most users.

Even with the studio, they should sell screen-only matching companion monitors (lacking speakers, no integrated camera etc..)

And this is why the iPhone and Watch models get their big changes in the fall.

Shoppers can go and buy a Watch or an iPhone to put under the Christmas tree.

I just checked hotels closest to Apple HQ, for the nights of 30 Oct and 31 Oct.... and there are lots of rooms available.

So if this is an "event" did Apple invite many people?

We only have 7 days to find out if Bloomberg/Gurman is wrong yet again.

Made my position clear on M2 and if there's a new iMac it has to be M3 or just don't bother.

Who is interested in an iMac just to use up rather dull m2 configurations with M3 chips already ready to go.

No, it has to be M3, anything else signals Apple overbought M2
