That article links to a source written in 2018 which says “Bluetooth 5.0, which has already been announced, offers much higher bandwidth. This should let future Bluetooth headsets play back audio at high quality while the microphone is being used, in theory.”
I don’t know if it does make a difference, but hopefully Bluetooth 5 is more capable.

sorry buddy audio is still capped for bandwidth so no hifi for audio steaming in Bluetooth 5.0. LDAC by Sony has been available since BT 2.0 EDR allowed for nearly 1000kbps but there is still overhead and approaching that bitrate leaves out the ability to take adavantage I’d distance and error correction with interference.

Sounds to me like Tim bought a set of the $60 Taotronics Bluetooth, noise canceling 40H headphones from Amazon and had his techs try to figure out how to copy them legally somehow. They do all that same stuff in the article.

I've been using them for about six months now with great enjoyment streaming my 150 GB iTunes library from my 256 GB iPod Touch. They also have a model 60 for $50 which I think are the same. I got mine in a cool mint color.

The sound is superb and you can get five sets for the predicted price of the Apples with half a C left.

Very light and comfortable, with many hours lithium battery life, good built in push button controls and advertised to include microphone capability. I don't use a smart phone, so can't verify that. Haven't tried talking to Siri either as I don't need Siri with Alexa all over the house.

Charge really fast and includes a 3.5mm cable if you don't have Bluetooth, or want to plug into your Alexa devices, as will as the USB charging cable and a really nice hard case for the whole works.

I've always wondered why folks blow big bucks on Beats, etc., since these things came out.

Found not so glowing reviews. Well, I’m not sure if this is the one you’re talking about TaoTronics SoundSurge 60 (TT-BH060) the band was uncomfortably tight, sound quality muffled and ineffective ANC. They DO say they’re a good budget choice though. So, for those that have price as the most important factor, these are the leaders, no question.

I can’t wait to see a fitness focused high end over-ear headset from Apple.

Currently using Beats Studio 3 during sport and I have found that the leather like material is very prone to early damage.

In less than two years, this is the situation of my headset.

And this is a pity as I really love the sound quality, the stability of the Bluetooth connectivity with my 11 PRO and most importantly the amazing battery life.

Just wondering if I can found spare parts to replace the damaged ear pads.

That's the item I have, and I totally disagree with that report other than that they are a good budget choice. Over the years I've used very high quality $300+ wired Sennheiser phones before Bluetooth came along, and these are just as good. Mine are very comfortable on a hat size 8 head, and I can't hear ANTHING outside the phones even at low volume.
There are always negative reviews on Amazon about everything, but very few satisfied customers bother to review. Sound quality is the most important reason I buy phones, and I refuse to pay big bucks just for names like Apple or Beats. I have had excellent Sony MDR-7506 phones for many years, and these are even better.
Apple makes great computers, but audio companies make the great phones. TaoTronics SoundSurge 60 (TT-BH060) are an example.

I hope they understand that the high-end market often uses high-end playing devices ( and headphone amplifiers, etc) for listening to non-compressed music, and therefore a wired connection is required in addition to wireless.
Unless « high-end » simply means the same people that enjoy iPhone earbuds but need to buy everything Apple.
Yeah, wired backup is really useful for low-latency stuff and also just for that extra bump of quality. I have a pair of Grados that have bluetooth and an optional wired connection. The bluetooth sounds quite good, but with some kinds of music I definitely notice a sound quality difference when I plug them in. Not so much pop music, but definitely with classical and more revealing source material.

Can’t you just replace the earpads? I would never buy headphones over $100 if the earpads and cables are non replaceable.
For sure they are not user replaceable 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and just knock ‘beats’ here for a second. I considered the Solo three wireless, and even though the sound wasn’t really negatively reviewed, the hardware was. One thing that seems to be a problem with the ‘beats brand’, is the poor hardware/longevity doesn’t seem to uphold given the price point they are charging. Even though I think beats is a massive cache for Apple, it’s also junk hardware across their entire lineup that seems to not last nearly as long as it should.
I have nothing to complain about sound quality and functionality. But hardware longevity is very poor and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Would love these as prefer over the ear for the better isolation and allow usage even when wearing hearing aides (surprisingly). With earbuds have to swap back and forth. Love my Bowers and Wilkins P7 but would like less bulky. The only thing I ask is that also have the option for direct wire. While wireless is great, sometimes, like on a plane, it has to be plugged in to watch the in-flight programming.
Check your hearing aids provider for otonics brand. I got a set from the VA a few months ago and they accept Bluetooth streaming from my iPod. With the excellent sound from the prescription aids, this is really fantastic. All my 140GB iTunes straight to my skull-no phones required!

Oh ok. I have had numerous earphones over the years and whenever I had the cable break or the ear cushions started to crumble apart I was pissed. So my good expensive studio gear had all replaceable parts.

I look forward to becoming a cyborg someday when my hearing diminishes (runs in my family and I think it has started, I'm in my 50s). Personally, I would love something always connected wirelessly to allow me to connect to multiple devices! And then I would hope for optical enhancements as well...

Well, I had the same thing happen with my 2-year old Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2.0 headphones — a pretty expensive pair. And, strangely, it is only one ear-cup's leather which is flaking off! I think it has to do with a couple of things:
1) sweat and whatever combination of oils, minerals and water are in that leading to a decomposition of the leather or leather-like material
2) any other creams which you may wear — like sunscreen — are probably not good for the surface
As to why one side is worse than the other...? Well the peeling side is where the controls are, and is on the dominant side of my body. Maybe more touches on that side and/or increased sweat? LOL.

It properly because you take them off on the right side. It's where the thump and index finger touches.
