Yea I did that too, but then THINGS imported all those reminders and it got confusing and annoying ;)

Another method I use is an app called Hindsight, which supports Apple Watch. It's for noting when things happened. It gives me a nice history of when I took my medication and you can configure it to alert you after it's been a certain amount of time since you last noted something occurred.

I'm getting an Apple Watch as soon as it becomes a stand-alone device. No iPhone for me.

Data entry will be quite challenging (for you) if not quite amusing (others watching you loose your mind with SMS/Email and forums auto correct issues). Honestly a stand-alone Apple Watch requires minimal geek looking AR glasses for better display, interaction and some way that gestures (heck maybe even sign-language for silent and rapid data input.

Not feeling the Find My Friends being paired with Find My iPhone. I feel forced to even see Find My Friends, like who even needs or uses that? Parents? I feel if Parents use that those kids would probably loath using their iPhone or just disable location data for Friends app.

Dark Mode ... nice yet will it be limited to OLED devices only?

Mail ... being further minimalistic is not a good idea .. collapsable folders would be nice.

UI change I"d like to see:
that "tap and hold" to bring up contextual menu for:
Bold, Italicize, Underline, Add Attachment & Add Photo (should be 1 selection for both long ago), Indent, etc needs an overhaul. Too slow and arcane and tricky at times to activate a particular selection or move to the next contextual menu screen of choices. 3D Touch would come in handy here along with a paperclip icon for attachments in the system interface.

Interesting. Sharing location does this too. I've never used to to that level.

Still would you want Friends and Find My iPhone to be combined? How it works in the iCloud web portal would not be ideal for a dual logon prompt even with 2FA.

If they kept the functionality separate I guess I wouldn't mind. I use 'find my iPhone' maybe once a year so it's pretty much a dead app on my iPhone in my case.

Even though this is o/t to the post, I feel compelled to answer. Our family is hooked up with FMF (except the married ones). And I don't have young kids. The reason, if anything ever happened, we can find each other easily. If my wife drove into a ditch or got car jacked, I can at least find her phone. That's the rational behind FMF for us.

That is unless she went for help and her phone was in the car - connected and charging ... you'd see her traveling and incorrectly. I'd like to see Find My Friends work on WatchOS as well (unless it's already available/working there). Still a good point you've made.

Next time you misplace your phone, or even if your don’t, just ask Siri to find your phone.

I'd rather just do a quick swipe up and tap the ping icon from control center on my watch. Siri is helpful to me be also sometimes a source of frustration.

Do you guys decide to meet up in a general area and then are scattered around? Call me crazy but when me and my friends arrange to meet up, a specific location is decided ahead of time otherwise a quick "where are you" message does the trick... No need for my friends to monitor my movements on their phone.

Say we're meeting at a restaurant for dinner at a certain time. We're all coming from different parts of town. Don't have to text someone who's driving this way. Any of us can glance at Find my Friends and see where everyone is. You can give your location to people for an hour or until the end of the day and then their access is revoked.

Ok that makes sense. the one hour or end of day limit makes all the difference... I thought once you accepted a friend on the app they could track your location all of the time.

iOS wasn’t created to compete with blackberry or Nokia, iOS replaced them, you know because iOS is based on Mac OS X which is Unix based.

Blackberry and Nokia smartphones were rtos based, not Unix.

Your knowledge on the matter is rather lacking.

This is Steve Jobs himself literally demonstrating the competitors of the iphone in the launch keynote.

Agree 100%. It's really nice being able to give temporary location access.

I don’t think Apple allows the AW to be used without an iPhone (you gotta hook people to the main cash cow, the iPhone), but considering how quick Apple put in cellular on a tiny watch seems to show that that’s their plan is to have a more robust watchOS platform (ie ability to install apps without having to be near the iPhone).

I wish Apple would allow Apple Watches to be paired with an iPad. Imagine having a cellular iPad mini and an Apple Watch combo, skipping the iPhone. :D

You contradicted yourself in your own post. The fact that Apple added cellular capabilities to the Watch is a clear indication that they want it to be used without an iPhone, otherwise what’s the point of having its own connection?

The iPhone has peaked. Apple is moving towards its next big hit and the Watch is it. Making the AppleWatch self contained and able to be sold to anyone regardless of which phone they own will open up a path for massive growth, essentially tripling their potential customer pool.

Then there’s the halo effect where Android users who purchase a Watch love it so much that they buy an iPhone.

I too want what you want: an Apple Watch with me all the time and a cellular iPad Mini with me when I need a bigger screen.

If you watched the video he was explaining why a multi touch keyboard and full screen display is superior and does indeed supersede the half display half physical keyboard layout of “dumb” phones, the same way that the iPhone would supersede dumb phones with the physical keyboards.

Don’t know why you think that makes them competitors, he called them obsolete.

I don’t you actually watched it.

All of those companies had to scrap whatever os they had and moved to a more modern mobile architecture to compete with apple and the iPhone. They all failed. None of them make phones anymore.

You should go back and reread what I posted.

A dedicated App Store just for Apple Watch would be the biggest thing since bread & butter. The last thing you need on the go is a phone, just to access, now the watch has LTE.

We can critique iOS for not having some features we think it should, but to call it anything but stellar is disingenuous.

Anyone who’s come from Palm OS 1,2,3, etc, or Windows Mobile back in the early to mid 90s knows how far we’ve come.

We’ve been looking for the (one device to replace them ALL!) since 1995 and while the iPhone didn’t quite get there at launch, it got there once the iPhone Plus hit the market. The iPad wasn’t there at launch, but it got to a competent laptop replacement by the time we hit the first gen iPad Pro (esp. the 12.9”)

Personally, once iOS becomes truly standalone, allowing us to back up our phones and iPads to a hard drive, use a plethora of drives via USB-C, extended desktop, etc, then I’ll be happy. And those changes are minimal.

I can’t wait for the native swipe keyboard especially. That alone would make this the most exciting update for me in a long time. It’s going to make one-handed typing on the SE a joy. I just hope it works a lot better than all the buggy third party swipe keyboards. But even if not, at least it’s native and should be more secure. And I think/hope that suspect rumor about iOS 13 dropping support for the SE is wrong.

Can I please have

Standalone picture management- I want to move pictures to albums

Do Not Disturb Update -On weekends I want my DND to turn off automatically. Then Monday at a specific time automatically turn back on vs location based

I used to jailbreak for these 2 options alone
