Obviously, but the wording of the article is contradictory to that notion. The research apparently concluded this. Apple doesn't talk about upcoming devices production issues, you should know that by now.

I can't remember the last time I saw anybody using an iPhone without a case on it. I think your definition of "many" may be askew. Many people prefer to use their phones without cases and with the protruding camera the phone no longer lays flat on any surface (I know some reputable online reviewers mention that they liked non-protruding so they can use the phone while it's laying flat on a desk without it rocking side to side).
I still don't know why this bothers people so much. I'd rather have the protruding camera than have the entire phone that thick just to hide it. It isn't optimal, but I've never seen it as something to be upset about.
Option 3: Make it flush, and use the extra thickness for, I don't know, maybe a n extra big-ass battery?
You're probably correct about most users. But please don't assume most means everyone. I personally hate the bump. I'll stick with my SE until Apple makes a bumpless new phone or the SE gets so absolutely old that it's just non-functional. I would without question rather have whatever camera quality fits without the bump than an even better camera with the bump. Because you know what? Just like most users probably don't care about the bump, I bet that same general populace can't tell the difference between those cameras either. It's because the internet is an echo chamber. In the real world no one is really bothered by it. I doubt most iPhone users have even considered it.
This. All I care about is a super good camera. I don't care if it protrudes or not.

Put your phone on a desk and type on it. It wobbles with every touch. That bothers me.
I would rather have a not-so thin phone with a decent battery that I can lay flat and use properly.
Can you sense it? Apple is probably scrambling to make all models of the new iPhone actually worth buying compared to the one "iPhone Edition" model that would have been the only thing comparable to the S8. Good job Samsung in putting pressure on Apple to innovate and make better products available this Fall to Apple consumers.

If the iPhone 7 were to release today, I would still buy it. That's how satisfied I am with the device. Over the 6 months or so of owning it, I haven't had to fuss with it at all.
The glass was just black. The iPhone 4 design has always been my favorite of all iPhone iterations. That jet black glass covering the front and back, and wrapped around a chormed rim was slick A.F.
Yeah but with all due respect one person, you, cant speak for the entire mobile market and what people want which is a relatively bezel-less front, some form of wireless charging, to see more options for the courage that came with lack of headphone jack, etc.
I quite like my 7 Plus as well, and Have solo3 and AirPods to accommodate, but I'm not all people,
And I understand the criticisms of a $900 phone, too. Even though Samsung isn't really cutting anyone any breaks either.
At the very least, seems most people want trimmed bezels.
It looks pretty, but I hope they move the power button to, well, anywhere other that directly across from the volume buttons. It's wonderfully symmetrical design, sure, but two years on, and I still occasionally line up a great one-chance-to-capture-it photo opportunity, and... turn off the display, locking the phone (because I pressed the wrong side, or squeezed the phone between thumb and finger and the power button "won" over the volume button). And by the time I can get the phone back on and unlocked and the scene reframed, the child or cat or whatever has wandered off and I've lost that photo opportunity. This was clearly a case of form winning out over function and usability.
This won't be a popular request, but I'd also love to see them add a play/pause button between the volume up/down, in line with what the iPods have. There are numerous times that I have the phone in my hand, and I'm listening to music or a podcast as well as using some app, and I have a sudden need to have the phone stop making noise right now. Someone asks a question or something. And suddenly it's a mad scramble to pull up the control panel and swipe to the music tab and then press pause. That seems like such a poor hack. If they want me to consider it as a music player (that was, after all, one of Steve's original three pillars of the iPhone), being able to directly pause the music is a pretty basic expectation. It'd be a boon for AirPods users as well.
Where did I say I'm speaking for the entire market? Oh you like your 7+? Interesting.
This seems like an independent report straight from the horse's (Apple's) mouth. Probably pushed through by Apple PR, with the intent to communicate this to a broader audience than the standard tech followers like us.Wasn't this already reported last week? Bloomberg is slow and re-purposing other news
if this is an argument to show that people actually do care about the camera bump even though they say otherwise, it's flawed. If they brought out 2 models of this : model A like the render, with camera bump, and model B that is 2mm thicker, camera is flush, and 30% more battery life..
..I wonder how many of those saying they don't mind the camera bump would stick to model A?
None, I would guess!![]()
Oh great, now I'm gonna have nightmares tonight! Gee, thanks. The power button will be replaced by Siri off/on.
