I think the "phone" side of the iPhone could be heavily improved.

Take the handcuffs off, Apple. You just created a small, portable iMac. Widgets aren’t gonna cut it.

I keep saying this, the iPad needs its own new OS. Something revolutionary like OS 9 -> OS X . This Frankenstein monster that was supposed to compete against Nokia phones won't cut it.

When Jobs came back he said OS 9 failed because it was built for a different time and they kept adding to it and extended its bloat until it became too heavy. He threw it out and came with OS X, something completely different.

I'm excited about the customizable status and automatic reply features.

It has always been my dream to assign a specific set of behaviors to my phone depending on my status (driving, working, sleeping...).

Hopefully there will be an API that lets all the installed apps be notified of changes to the user status so that they can adapt their behavior appropriately in concert with the rest of the system.

The next frontier is to have Siri take phone calls for you when you are driving/working and only forward the urgent ones. That would be sick.

HDR display makes iPad Pro a media creation and media consumption device. With windowed iOS/iPadOS apps running on MacOS already, expect MacOS apps running windowed on iPadOS (and only-iPadOS). No need for MacOS on iPad Pro.

On HDR Video Production matters...iPad Pro needs to ingest ProRes RAW from cameras directly to iPadPro NLE to streamline HDR video production.

:)

As a long term iPad user (not a "Pro-user"), I definitely not prefer to have "macOS on iPad", and I love the iPadOS being a simple OS for media consumption and web-browsing. However, to utilise the improved power and making iPad more suitable for some productivity, I hope Apple can improve on the following areas:
  • Multitasking/multi-window, but I dnt prefer to have resizable windows since most iPads are mostly ~10-11" (need to consider iPadOS working on the Mini as well) and it should be touch friendly
  • A "productivity mode" can be activated when docked with keyboard and mouse/trackpad, that could eg run Mac apps or can trigger a different way to multitask
  • Customisable status bar would be nice, now the status bar is too empty
  • Have the ability to "sync notifications" with iPhones (this can be implemented to macOS too btw), so I dnt miss any notifications when I'm using my iPad
  • External display support would be nice, can consider working like in the Keynote app, that the iPad touch screen is for "controlling the slideshow" while the external display "plays the slideshow". Maybe having a PiP window on the iPad screen when playing the video on the external display.

I want to put my icons much closer together so that I can get more on the home screen. Not a big ask.

I would appreciate being able to use LDAC based audio, as products use this for high resolution wireless audio. The iPhone and iPad’s firmware doesn’t support this currently (iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5). It’s not too big an suggestion, though a third party codec license would be needed, before implementing support. Since it’s still early development, hopefully able to be added.

I think you'd be more likely to see Apple introduce their own proprietary codec to promote their own music service (not saying that's likely either, granted). What I'm really curious about is what the existing H1 chips are capable of.

For all those people who simplistically think that Mac OS on an iPad would be great... think again. Imagine all those tiny mouse targets that all the sudden would be touch targets. It would be horrible. So stop asking Apple to put out garbage software please. The best they can do is what they are doing. Making iPadOS more powerful every year. It'll reach parity soon.
