It seems like it may never happen, but if they are updating the home screen for better widget support, how about letting me arrange the screen in any way I want instead of forcing me to use the grid layout?

Either they need to give us macOS on iPad Pro, or a massive enough overhaul to where iPadOS is basically a touch enabled macOS with full pro application support. We shall find out at WWDC.

Yeah, new lock screens and better Memoji is why you need an M1... given iPadOS isn’t going to justify anything beyond an A12, why not unleash the beast and let it run macOS?
I feel like we may get an announcement that all M1 iPad Pros can run macOS (or some equivalent game changing announcement).

You mean you want a MacBook Air with touchscreen?
Now that M1's can run iOS apps there's no excuse for Apple not to offer a touchscreen upgrade for MacBooks and iMacs. Of course if you could add one for $100 to your MBA there might not be as much demand for $2400 iPad Pros...

Some part of me suspects that Apple sees the iPad Pro with magic keyboard as the ideal hybrid form factor. You have the traditional laptop design, and you can still detach the tablet from the keyboard for when you just want the tablet portion.

All that’s left is to continue porting macOS functionality to iPadOS so it can handle more PC tasks.

Just please bring changes based on improved function and not just something different. Please. Pretty please.

Meh. Doesn’t seem like much for the iPad. The jailbreak tweak Anywhere Widgets For iPad allows to put widgets anywhere on the homescreen, and the lockscreen change probably won’t be much compared to jailbreak tweaks.

Therefore, it’s probably more of a big deal for people that don’t like jailbreaking.

Here's my prediction. Mark my words.
Apple will never (read carefully) NEVER will make an iMac with Multitouch or Macbook with Multitouch... Apple will never introduce an iPad Pro with MacOS that has been said and granted so I'm not going to start assuming that eventually will happen. What is going to happen and I'm pretty sure about this, (Every prediction I made since becoming a Mac User in 1993 always come true) Apple will introduce a new device. Something designed to run both systems but kind of limited, a hybrid to compete with Surface and start pushing the iPad Pro inside blue collar businesses. The name I don't know but the device is coming. It is inevitable, get ready for the new MacTouch running MaciOS my friends. It will be 10 inches, limited in ports and for the first time will connect to others M1 machines intuitively with Lidar and bluetooth related technology. Wonderful things are coming, Peter... Wonderful things...

Who cares what that guy thinks?

MacOS on the iPad Pro is a great idea from a portability perspective.
He didn't just *think* though. He's an experienced macOS and iOS dev. This isn't some random guy on Internet forum. He clearly put some thoughts into it.

think it is much more likely that Apple wants to keep them separate but having them run the same Apps (sold through the App store only for iPad). The problem for the iPad is more about the software available and not about what UI is used.
Exactly this. It’s all about a unified development platform (Apple Silicon + Swift / SwiftUI) that allows developers to easily create apps that run across all of Apple’s devices.

I really and truly believe that the internal upgrades that have been made to iPad Pro were solely for the purpose of running higher caliber apps, not some crazy new version of macOS for touch. It's just not going to happen.
💯 This.

I just imagine them getting Blizzard on board to release WoW on the iPads to showcase it.They already have it native M1 support in Mac OS so I’m betting it wouldn’t be a hard thing. Having one of the worlds most known PC game running on the iPad would be amazing PR for it and also show all other developers what can be achieved.

1. I want to see the new-style Dock on devices such as iPhone 7 and 8 and the new SE.
2. I want folders to hold 12 apps per view instead of current 9.
3. I want UI animations to be faster.

Beyond that, I have no clue what I want and eager to see what changes they bring. New iconography is always welcome.

I suspect this is the solution that Apple sees. If the M1 iPad Pro can run any app the M1 MacBook can, then the devs can write the same app for the macOS App Store and iPadOS App Store.

Seems to me the leak is well calculated - They just announced a beast of an iPad Pro. Reviewers are probably getting devices as we speak. I can predict that the main negative feedback will be OS limitations. Hinting to changes in iPadOS home screen does provide with free publicity in review videos without spoiling anything

I hope so, I have my doubts. Gurman at Bloomberg has pretty great sources and if they say this is a milder release and the stuff for iPadOS 15 mainly sounds like catch-up to the homescreen allowances on iOS 14 for phones. Honestly the new M1 in the iPads is astoundingly powerful but when if ever will me get a rethink of multitasking and truly powerful software like Final Cut? I don't think it is this year, we shall see.
