People are strange. They would have split screen on the Apple Watch if you asked them.

That is not what people are saying here. They are saying iPadOS should improve multiasking.

I guess they what three or more apps open at one time. Than the split screen only showing two apps at time. They want more than the two apps open at time but three or more.

Or more apps running in the background with out purging and apps always refreshing when you open the Firefox app and have 7 tabs open and move away to other tab or the note taking app for minute or two.

Again I don’t know how Apple is going do this with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD that may have less than 8 GB of free space.

I would argue that if you are clinging to the idea that Apple will suddenly open up the OS of the iPad to the sort of tinkering available on the Mac I would say you bought the wrong device. Apple, as a capitalist entity whose goal in life is to make money and sell more things to their customers wants you to buy both so is unlikely to achieve parity between iPad and Mac.

However it would be nice if Apple opened up more of the RAM to developers. I would like to see Logic on the Pro and Aperture to return.

It's cute to see how Apple is trying to be something at least. These features are nothing new to Android users.

A lot of people seem to know this, that is technically called the action button. Sharing are just the highlighted actions (user messaging apps, apps that can deal with a particular piece of data), but you also tend to get things like 'request desktop web site'.

There appear to be groups even within Apple who would like this changed to be clearer that it is representing general actions against an item (rather than just sharing) - see how mail overloaded the 'reply' button instead for most actions.

Good points. Consistency in how various UI elements interact and avoiding cluttering a screen with a plethora of them are good human factors engineering, IMHO.

More RAM and SSD is not aways the answer. As programmers would just code for it and it be more bloated.

Exactly, when I first learned to code you spent as much time thinking about what you want to do and how to most efficiently do it as you did writing code. Saving even a few lines could make a big impact on performance; and space was very limited.

It also meant less time at the punch card machine typing in your program.

Files could do with a bit of streamlining and a deposit area for multiple copy and paste items would be useful

Yea, there are some simple change that would go a long way. A single unified file store and cut and paste across all apps with multiple clips would be good.

Agreed. Never understood this obsession with widgets. There are more important things Apple should be focused on.

As with everything, different people find different things useful. I rarely use terminal on the Mac and see no need for it on an iPad; others do.

No. Multiple windows you can move around, resize, etc. ... Oh, and a much larger display so every time I look at it I exercise my arms, a new health App feature...

Sorry I don’t know what so bad about iOS notifications.

I have not used android for long time. So unless some one here can post some screenshots to compare the two.
I don‘t think it‘s about the UI but the overall functionality. Android allows you to categorize app notifications (e.g. this one is a gaming related one and that one is a chat message from a contact) so you can fine tune and prioritize what should be shown first.

If Apple adds categories to differentiate notifications within an app, a theoretical profile functionality (as rumored) could hide gaming related notifications while you‘re at work.

Disclaimer: Don‘t own or use Android, it‘s what a friend of mine told me when I asked about Android Notification functionality and how it compares to iOS (he has an iPhone for work and Android is his personal).

The iPad doesn‘t need more RAM, it needs virtual memory. If you have, say, 8 GB RAM and your project eats 9, your app will crash. That is also the reason why you won‘t find high-profile editing or coding software in the App Store.
Also, if your apps beyond split screen in the background are suspended, paused or even purged, what level of multitasking would you consider that to be? Certainly not the multitasking I would like to have.

Why? The screen size is way too small

No it is not. You can have an email app open on the bottom half of the screen and a website on the top half of the screen. This makes copying and pasting of information across apps also much easier.

The MBA 11“ was not exactly uncapable and unable to multitask either.
It‘s not the hardware that‘s lacking.

Whew, I was struggling with getting the 16gig version of the IPAD or not. I ended up putting an order in for the M1 8gig version. I'm very glad I didn't pull the trigger on a 16gig iPad. I'm half tempted to cancel my iPad order, especially, since it still hasn't shipped.

Nope. On-screen Keyboard screws it up.
Why Samsung has had this split-screen feature and keyboard wasn't an issue. Matter of fact, with Samsung you can put the apps as windows and then minimize them until needed again. I hated giving that feature up when I moved to iPhone.

I don’t think it has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD. I don’t know of any desktop or laptop having such low spects.

Keep in mind Google earth app for the desktop and Firefox app for desktop now take 4GB of RAM just to load up.

Back in 2009 you could open the Firefox app with 12 tabs open and it would not take up 2GB of RAM.

I seen split-screen on a Samsung Galaxy S20. Still think it’s garbage.
ahh, ok. Good for you. I still want that feature and not sure why Apple can't support it. Since all other platforms support it and allows some of us to be even more productive.

Everything is garbage until apple adds it naturally.

spilt screen/pop up windows are very useful on android nevermind the fact you can place apps anywhere you wish. Why apple continues to make the iPhone so limited is such a shame. You don’t have to use spilt screen all the time but is often useful depending on the situation.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Personally,I just don’t see how anyone to be productive with split screen on a phone. Heck, the iPad Mini was pushing it for me but at least we have keyboard accessories

What do you mean the notifications is way better on the android than Apple? What is wrong with the notifications?
Well for one the iPhone notifications look dated and take up too much space with the big giant blob shapes they inherited from the watch. On Android the notifications are interactive and they seem to have a limitless amount of info they can show. Whereas the iPhones notifications seem to just show the most basic info and haven’t really been improved since they came out.
