blu-ray player software question

Hi guys,

Do you know are there some software blu-ray players that are suitable for Mac? It does not seem there is a lot of information on the Net about blu-ray software and there is even less for Mac. I've found these reviews http://www.reviewmaze.com/2011/01/windows-blu-ray-player-software.html but there is nothing mentioned for Macs. Do you know if any of these packages have also a Mac version?

Thanks Cave Man,
Not so good news but it sounds still like an option if the playback is fine.

Yes! "Blu-ray Player.app" works great!

Has anyone tried this? http://www.macblurayplayer.com/ I don't have a bluray drive to try it unfortunately but they make bold claims

Yes! I've had a Bluray Burner on my iMac for almost a year, and I've burned and read Blu-Rays no problems, converted movies to Quicktime, iPhone, any size H.264, etc. and play movies back that way. But until a few days ago, I couldn't play a movie directly except through Windows VM, and that never worked very well. You can get a Blu-ray Burner that makes a great fast DVD and CD burner too for less than $100. (It's 4x-8x faster than my built-in SuperDrive)

This program played back a BluRay movie perfectly the first try, even one that my regular BluRay Player with a HDTV couldn't play. However, "Blu-ray Player.app" doesn't seem to do the Java Menus (regular Blu-ray Menus and Options), and chapters yet though, and the captioning isn't perfect yet either. But I was very pleased at the Flawless instant playback! I have two different Full HD monitors with my 27" iMac, one of them is a smaller 42" HDTV (the other is a 21.5" display), I can just play a Blu-ray right on that 42" screen in Full screen mode with Audio going through the HDMI cable too. It's nice, because that particular HDTV doesn't have it's own BluRay player (just a AppleTV).

I wonder if the $99 AppleTV with iOS 5 will support CD/DVD/Blu-ray Sharing with the iMac, then I could stream a Blu-ray to the AppleTV?

Yes

Yes Macblurayplayer.com software does work 100% I have bought a Sony BDX-S500U Blu-ray burner and even player with 3D. Best one out there. With my Macbook Pro 13.3 its great. I dont even have 1080p HD but the graphics are the best. The program works like a charm and I hope they continue there great work.

Now I just wish the blu-ray was internal and not external.

I wouldn't say 100%. I tried a few movies and had problems selecting the proper audio track. Criterion's Night of the Hunter, for instance, will only play the commentary track, no matter what you switch the audio to.

It's nice to be able to play a blu-ray on my Mac Pro, but the controls are also very lacking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no menu button or functionality (for me, it's playing the movie tracks only) no speed controls (so you can scan/shuttle fast or slow) and no frame-by-frame.

In other words, Mac Blu-Ray Player is pretty bare-bones and not 100% functional. I'm hoping it's only a matter of time until it gets much better. I would add these comments on their site, but they've got no forums.
