Anonymous doesn't target innocent people.

I'd bet money that Bluetoad is a front for the CIA or for some FBI shell company.

Bluetoad, good job on being honest and admitting the leak of information.
It takes some guts and character.

You're correct. I have a 1 in 10 chance of my device being on that list.

Actually, that's if you trust the posting by Anonymous to Pastebin. It could be much higher, or lower. Only Bluetoad knows, guessing they won't say.

Oh boy...

It doesn't confirm or deny what the FBI does or doesn't have. It just reports that this particular leak was almost certainly from Blue Toad.

I hope you understand the difference between what you're writing and the facts.

Well yeah, but now we have no reason to believe the FBI has such a list, insofar as any baseless accusation has the same amount of credibility.

Wowowowow.

BlueToad being the Flipboard developer, I doubt it.

This is a group that DDoS'd the Vatican "for the lulz". I honestly can't expect them to not do something stupid and pass it off as heroic like was done here. I wonder if the guy who did this is getting retaliation from other members now that the gig is probably up. I suspect they lied to Anonymous about where they got the information.

I called this the day it happened. May not have posted it here, but I did post on another forum.

I was skeptical that a hacker really lifted this from the FBI.

Didn't doubt that he had such a file but doubted the source.

Ya. It seems like today's hackers are a far cry from the hackers of the old days when they did things out of principle rather than ego.

Yes they were stolen, but not from the FBI. Translation: The FBI does not have a database of a million+ Apple UDID's for devices they are tracking. If you have purchased a BlueToad app in the past then your UDID is probably on this list.

Well, they do NOW. Everyone does.

Despite the condescending tone of your last sentence, I will concede that indeed this does not prove that the FBI does not have millions of Apple UDIDs for American citizens that they are tracking.

Fact: Anonymous claims data was stolen from FBI

Fact: FBI claims the data was not stolen from them

Fact: Bluetoad data matches the stolen data pretty closely

Conclusion: Anonymous either lied about stealing the data from the FBI or the FBI obtained the data from Bluetoad and that data was then stolen by Anonymous from an FBI machine and the FBI is lying.

Either way somebody is lying about this data and right now the likelihood is that the data was not stolen from the FBI and the claim by Anonymous was an attempt for drawing media attention which discredits them and the believability of their future claims.

Conjecture: FBI may still have millions of Apple UDIDs for American citizens they are tracking, but we simply do not have any evidence of it yet. (make sure to buy your tinfoil hats now while supplies last)

Well, they do NOW. Everyone does.

Good point! Should we blame Anonymous?

still not sure why they would claim to steal something from the FBI and then bluetoad comes out and shuts them down. Now that doesnt look very good for their PR and skills ...

Is there someway there is a cover up going on? It just seems weird to me a major hacking group would lie about something so easily to prove them wrong with ...

I called it thus as well. This is all fake. It's been done for a political purpose, like censoring the Internet.

Meeting at FBI....

FBI1: "So, truth came out? This Florida company is the source? Good, can we get back to the camera tracking, please."
FBI2: "But look, they think we are tracking people with UDIDs."
FBI1: "Are we?"
FBI2: "No."
FBI1: "Well, sounds like it could be useful."
FBI2: "Ok, I'll get on it right away."

It's a little worrying all these little/smaller companies are holding any data like this in unsecured locations - ripe for the picking.

When you think about it, this sort of thing is probably happening all over the place.

When you go to a mom & pop gas station, restaurant, convenience store, or you go to a merchandise table at a concert or con, and swipe your credit card in that machine that copies it onto a carbon paper slip, what happens to the copy kept by the merchant? Answer: you have absolutely no idea.

I think many places have gone to chip and PIN and systems that phone the info electronically into the merchant's bank so there are no paper copies involved, but the world is a big place...

When I go to my doctor's office, they pull up my patient file from a large wall of filing cabinets. The locks on those things aren't particularly strong. If someone wanted my medical data, I imagine it won't be hard to get to.

FBI2: "Not yet, but that programmer in Seattle is working on it for us."
FBI1: "Well, sounds like it could be very useful."
FBI2: "Toad-aly! Ha ha. Get it? Toad - a - lee?"
FBI1: "Why do you always assume I have a sense of humor?"
FBI2: "It's fun to pretend. OK, I'll get back to the TrapWire stuff."
FBI1: "Yeah, and I'll get back to shredding the surveillance camera footage from the 9/11 attacks."
FBI2: "You're not done with that YET? You lazy bum."
FBI1: "I keep getting distracted by all the footage from the TSA naked body scanners. You *know* I like fat chicks."
FBI2: "They'll hire ANYBODY at the FBI, I swear!"
FBI1: "Yeah well they hired you! Ha ha ha. See I do have a sense of humor."

Huh, a group of people who go out breaking the law and stealing information may have lied. That's amazing.
