deciding to cancel the project because it couldn't find untapped features that would give it an edge in the television market.

An untapped feature I still think would sell - with Apple's hardware/software integration + fit & finish - is FaceTime in the living room.

Currently, families wanting to video call to catch up with parents/grandparents have to crowd around a Mac, or prop up iPad or iPhone and manually adjust the field of view to fit everyone in.
An Apple Television would presumably allow integrated high-quality camera lenses & microphones to work in concert with people-tracking software.
The end result would be a frictionless communications device in your living room, always ready to connect and able to remove inconveniences from the current arrangement.

I think this is legitimate. The industrial design realistically looks like it could be Apple, and the testing lab appears bona fide - as far as you can glean from blurry photos, anyway.

The very wide plinth is interesting. Some sort of soundbar, perhaps?

My money's on this being a huge, high-res desk monitor: The only monitor you'll ever need.

Metal body, thin bezels. Around 60-inch. Design Looks decent.
You just described every other OLED TV currently on the market.
I'm curious about the price they're going to set since the prices of new TVs keep going down and for 700€ you can get a damn good TV these days that will last you for 5+ years easily.

Finally! I'm always wanted a TV with a Great display and not this terrible upscaling and interpolated fps, you can switch off.

Love the "fact" that even when they are super early in prototyping, they still manage to put a clear and easy to recognize Apple logo on the back. Right in the middle of it.

I call BS! :D
How would you know that it is early in the prototyping? Late design prototypes of all other units have always had an Apple logo.

Top Tip: If you are going to sneak into an Apple lab and take pictures, take a decent camera!
And cut your fingernails, just in case.

If it's 4k, they missed the boat. I keep hearing of $299.99 4k displays available now. And they might be garbage, but Americans have every right to buy garbage that dies after the warranty does.

Well, Apple has always used their logo as a wi-fi antenna window, so if they're going to prototype something with an aluminum case like this, they may as well include the intended logo anyways

Ppfffttrtttt hahahaha hahahahahaha a another full Apple TV rumour hahahahahaha ha

Is this just like the endless 'rumours' we had before that were proven to be totally and utterly false? Haha

This is one rumour I would never ever believe because of its history until the day it's on sale!

Do I buy the 2017 65" OLEG LG or not now....hmmmm

I sure wouldn't wait for Apple to do one. It'll be twice the price, they'll use an LG screen, and you're stuck with the hardware built in for the life of the tv.

Apple needs a remote, not this. It's not hdmi 1 they should target but the remote the person is using.

Does it have HDR? Umm..what's that? Exactly. Hooks up to their 1080i cable..I loves my 4k!

How many iphone users have actually seen their iphone videos in 4k? That has to be a small number of imac users.

Another angle reveals what Apple is really up to
