Who cares about the TV, looks like Apple are developing a TARDIS!

Apple doesn't need to make the T.V...just make the T.V. experience better. Same as self driving cars, Apple doesn't need to make vehicles better. Just make the experience more enjoyable and seemless.

Y'all so dumb if you trust Geskin. He's the most regular student who only talks ********. Trust me, he has nothing to di with Apple things and if he posts a "leak" it's 100% ********. Wish people would not consider him as a special leaker or some sort of a.

Is that even a TV? I mean come on. No speakers! Looks more like the new 8K OLED Pro display :)
Or wait. You can only use it with one or two HomePods LOL

Personally, I'd rather just buy a separate device and have a dumb TV, similar to what I do with my cable modem and router. I can then upgrade each device on a different schedule.

On a different note, what can Apple due to differentiate their product from the competition, other than include an Apple TV inside?

Blurred images emerged online on Wednesday morning purporting to show what looks like an Apple-made standalone display in a specially prepared testing environment. The images were posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo and later picked up by mobile leaker Benjamin Geskin and shared on Twitter.

[snip]

Whatever the origin of these photos, it's best to take them with a grain of salt, for now at least.

I think I see the shadow of a yeti outside the window in that third pic.

I don't discriminate against people, but he should be the guy that make products that people want to leak and not be the leaker, It accomplishes nothing in the long term.

The Apple TV set will be a dock for the upcoming Apple TV (the box), think Nintendo Switch reversed.

As computer hardware ages, just switch the brains instead of buying a new TV.

right? haha. I wish they'd just stick with iPhones and focus on laptops (can't stand iPads and newer iPods...which I still run the original 2004 iPod [classic, in black and stainless back] with no issues). I'm still running my late-2008 13" Aluminum unibody and it runs great. I'd like a 15" or 17" MBP from that era to 2012 with current OS in them.
Oh God... Now they are getting into TV? Can't think of why they would get themselves into such a saturated market.

With all the technology out in the world and all these Chinese can get is a blurry photo ?

Looks like legit Apple design. The attention to detail, even to the surrounding environment like the wood table tells me that this is a real thing going on at Apple.

Possibly. Yet the sharp corners lead me to believe otherwise. Steve was a huge fan of roundrects, and that became a cornerstone of the Apple design mentality from 1999 onwards. When I walked into the Apple Store this past weekend and looked out over the crowd at all the product lining the walls, the one thing that jumped out and punched me in the eyes was the sharp-cornered LG displays. I couldn't believe how ugly they looked up against the rest of the store.
The last thing I remember being shipped from Apple with sharp corners were the old beige PowerPC boxes. The company has moved so far away from the square corner design that they built a circular headquarters - now they're going to suddenly go back to sharp design?

Perhaps a few years ago, Apple decided to wait for OLED technology* to mature (along with 4K and HDR to arrive as well) and put the TV project on ice?

*because FALD was not an option for them for aesthetic reasons

You just described every other OLED TV currently on the market.
I'm curious about the price they're going to set since the prices of new TVs keep going down and for 700€ you can get a damn good TV these days that will last you for 5+ years easily.

I believe the LG signature wallpaper TV is $8000 and that's what I call decent ! Any TV below is boring.

In so far behind in the tv thing. I still haven’t upgraded to 4K. I just don’t see the difference that I did when we jumped to HD. I realize technically the pixel jump is even higher, but I just can’t get myself to pull the trigger.

Have a look at HDR models. I hear that's got a lot to do with improved picture quality.

Looks like legit Apple design. The attention to detail, even to the surrounding environment like the wood table tells me that this is a real thing going on at Apple. For a TV like this, I imagine that the design is the main focus during its development process and that would be the reason they put it on a spinning platform.

No. Whatever that is it's on a wooden table for EMC testing. This is the standard setup for ALL electronic equipment & goods. You use a wooden table, as it is inert in an EMC test, and it is placed on a turntable so that you can scan for emissions or test for interference from all angles and heightsThere is a pneumatically controlled antenna at the other end of the chamber.

Looks like EMC testing/certification. Having the logo (and other final labeling) visible on the product is a requirement in some countries. This is because the product being tested/certified must appear EXACTLY as it will when it is eventually sold. It's all photographed and documented so it can be confirmed later in the field if the cert is called into question.

So it could be final (if this isn't some hoax?)

Yes, you are correct. The first three photos show the device inside the chambers for radiated emissions and radiated immunity testing. The final one looks to be conducted immunity testing. Whist you're correct that it is normal to have the unit fully badged & serial-numbered when going for the official certification & report, there's nothing to stop you doing multiple (even hundreds) of pre-compliance runs with various stages of prototyping/development/pre-production/etc.

If that logo is a piece of plastic built into the rear case, they would want to test with that in place as early as possible, as this would be one of the potential areas for EMC issues.

We don't know when these were taken. Could have been from some years ago. I still have my doubts. That's said, I miss the days of blurry cam photos.

If this is really Apple's TV, then you are probably close to the truth. Never in my life have I heard TV speakers that sounded good, and if Apple was wise they would do a "display only" TV.

At the beginning of the hifi tv era in the early 80s, the best TVs had no speakers, nor would you want them to. The audio output would be sent to a receiver and then out to high quality speakers. Whereas typical TV sets were called "television receivers" in a hifi system the display itself was just a display, and it was simply called a "television monitor". Manufacturers like Proton, NAD and Loewe were focused on putting out the best quality video and nothing else. Since I have my own hifi system, I'd prefer to have a simple, high quality display without all the cheap nonsense audio that flat panels include these days.

So figure this display - if its really theirs - is designed to be the video portion of a complete system that includes Homepod.
