CarPlay in my current 540i is free. The Digital Key is quite convenient, one less thing to carry/lose, but I still won't trust is on long trips. What I would really like to see is CarPlay integrated into the Heads-Up Display. My current car is sort of a "hidden" hybrid, I imagine the next version a few years from now will be an i5. Just as long as they don't propagate that ugly grille...
i'm wondering what is up with the digital key — the page talking about it is outdated, and i don't see it being an option on the '22 x5 — even though it was listed as one of the models that should have it in '21... feels like they are dropping it. hope i'm wrong.

My neighbour has a new BMW with that awful grille and I just can't get past the resemblance to Bette Midler in Hocus Pocus....

It’s pretty pathetic that the charge $80/year for CarPlay. Apple should restrict them from doing that.
Last time I heard this wasn't the case anymore starting from G20 3er. Are you saying subscriptions are back?

It is like some redneck said "and lets just sit a monitor on the dash." Did anyone check to see if it is held on with zip ties and duct tape? It isn't even integrated with the car. I'm glad I am not into the whole expensive car thing.

I wish they would have announced this before I traded in my BMW for a Tesla, CarPlay was the only thing that made me hesitant about getting a Tesla. And the i3 BMW being hideous uglier than a Prius and Leaf combined. This actually looks like a BMW.

I got a 2021 M440i a few months back and CarPlay is now integrated into the Heads-Up display which is nice. I was a little worried about the Digital Key at first but I use it a lot more now and leave my key fob at home. After losing a fob for my wife's X3 and having to cough up $400 (AirTags had not bee released yet) for a new one. So using the Digital Key eliminated the risk of losing a key.

Blimey! Self driving cars can't get here soon enough. These infotainment consoles on cars are getting more and more distraction inducing.😵

I guess I'm old school/old fashion, but I just want the minimum: speedo, tach, temp and fuel gauges, and a check engine light.🤨 I want to make my mechanic guess what the problem with my car is from noise it makes. I get make silly sounds and people won't think I'm crazy.🙃

I usually really like the BMW grille and love BMW's car designs in general but the front of that car is really ugly. It looks like it has buck teeth!

My 2012 VW Golf has BLUETOOTH.
So does my Honda Accord. And you know what? It's not that big a deal! I can still queue up music, and my phone is mounted via Magsafe in a convenient place on the center of the dash.

I rented a car with CarPlay last year for a couple weeks and it was nice but not earth-shattering. I'd pick it as an option on a new car, but if it added a ton of money to the sticker price (or, as with BMW, the ****ers wanted me to rent the feature), I'd be pretty comfortable just skipping it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The one thing CarPlay did that I found pretty great was playing the Maps direction cues in the driver's side speaker only while keeping the music in the other speakers. That was pretty cool.

IMO (<= just my opinion guys) The interior looks ... not good. Like 3 raspberry pi screens stitched together or sth. 👎🏻 They forgot the integration of the displays with the rest of the car I think.
Agree, there's a few manufacturers who seem to be doing this, especially in EVs - just slapping an ultra-wide display on top of the dashboard without making any attempt to integrate it physically or aesthetically

This is awesome! I’d be really interested in this car if it wouldn’t have this hideous huge grille.
Not that I can afford this beautiful car, but if I could I'd move to a state that didn't require front license plates. On the other hand I miss the kidney shaped grill of days gone by.

What's the point of the grill in an electric car? Is this just a design choice as the grill on a BMW is widely recognisable?

Also, I hope CarKey gets rolled out to other car brands soon.
