If you want to be stared at get a Rolls-Royce Phantom. I saw the first one in the flesh last week, all black with UK plates 'RRR1', and I could've been walking down the street naked with Paris Hilton on a lead and nobody would've noticed me! The only time I've seen a whole street, no exceptions, stop what they're doing and watch a car drive by.

Yes, but the people are staring at the Rolls the way the Bolsheviks used to stare at the Czar's equipage - muttering, "flash b*astard, someday I'll take him down".

A Lotus Exige is probably more rare in the states than a roller, but then hip-hop "artists" won't drive a Lotus.

thanks for the edumacation....

OK, iGav, thanks for the insight. And the quotes - very illuminating; more than a tad surprising. Like I said, over here, the Focus is just not the same car as it clearly must be over there. I will henceforth let it be known, from this time and place, that the Euro Focus ST is a pretty darn good car, pretty much on a par with the latest lithe bahn-burner from Stuttgart.

(sigh) The only time I've ever driven on the autobahn, I was in a Mercedes diesel step-van packed with instruments. The clatter of the engine *almost* drowned out some of the most beautiful music I had heard while on the trip - and none of this aforementioned music had anything to do with the aforementioned instruments in the back of the aforementioned van. I vividly remember being amazed at how quickly a car could go from being barely visible in the mirror, to right next to me, to barely visible through the windshield. (sigh)

Thinking about this stuff is a lot better than thinking about work right now. Thanks for that.

Speaking of which... Autocar have put the Focus ST road test online... quicker than a 911 Carrera S around a wet handling circuit apparently. :D Not too shabby for the iGav

However, what really catches my eye, and demonstrates how good the standard Focus itself is, is how little has been changed in the suspension department.

Highly skilled pilots will be able to cover ground at astonishing speeds in this car and will still be totally engaged by it.

I REALLY have to try this motor out... :D

Goodwin also reckons it'd be on a par with an M3 on a challenging road.

Speaking of hot hatches... this weeks Autocar has an article on the new Civic Type-R... I can't believe they've kept the twist beam in it...  :p
