$400000 is not too bad. It's about €345000 and the most expensive Z8 in Europe for sale right now is about €500000.
If it sells for $300000 (€260000) it's actually not even in the top 20 most expensive European Z8s.

Call me ignorant, but I think Apple should buy the car and place it in their museum.

Steve Jobs got rid of the Apple museum and historical library in 1997 after he returned to Apple, saying that artists should not look backwards.

It's unknown who took the products, but the documents were donated to Stanford.

However, rumors say that since his death, Apple execs have started collecting an unofficial internal one.

Here's Woz introducing the first museum around 1984, btw:

Can you imagine driving around in a Car driven and owned by Steve Jobs? What a story piece that would be.
Seriously, no. I don't get peoples obsession with things like this. The car is not faster, more comfortable or more efficient. With all due respect I'm sure Steve was a great guy, (some of the time), but get a grip man - so what if he owned/drove it?
First time I met a celeb was years ago, Antonio Fargas in London. I came away thinking, "I thought actors were mystical beings but he uses his mouth to speak just like me. He probably drinks like a regular guy and not by osmosis and I bet his crap stinks just like mine does too".

Didn’t know Jony Ive was American :)
Oh, touché.

Where did you draw the conclusion that this is an "Obsession"? I simply made the comment that it would be interesting to own/drive a car that was once owned by the worlds most influential technological genius. It wasn't like I stated something like "I have to have this car" or "I will pay any dollar for it."

Second, I could care less if this car was not fast or comfortable. Serious bidders are not buying it strictly for that. They're buying it for the history behind this vehicle. You're implying something completely different.

I didn't say your obsession did I? I said, 'peoples', a general term. There is no history here. He owned the car, so what. Soon us stupid humans are going to look to do things like buy the toilet he sat on.

Incorrect, there is history behind the car and who he sold it to and how it will be transferred over to the next owner from this point forward. And since you use the term "general" in your Post, stating that "Soon us stupid humans are going to look to do things like by the toilets he said on" sounds rather sophomoric and dismissive to others preferences in what they find value in. To each their own, but it doesn't make anyone "Stupid." Poor choice of wording here.

When a cell phone's capabilities focused primarily on the earpiece and microphone... you could make the phone as small as you want without sacrificing those capabilities.

But now the beautiful screen is the centerpiece of the phone. It's the interface as well as the display. And tiny screens aren't exactly a joy to use.

Here's a tiny smartphone... is smaller really better? :p

Without those bezels it might be!

Isn't that what some people want the SE to evolve into? An iPhone X mini, with an edge to edge, top to bottom screen?

Ok, looks like you're getting bent outa shape so I'll draw this line of commenting to a close. That car has no more history than any other. Take the comment(s) as you please.

I have always wondered why Europeans love Levis jeans... At least the ones I know.

Levi's jeans are more upmarket in Europe than in the US. They are sold in (relatively) nice stores, not supermarkets. And while I am not sure if this still holds true, they actually used to be of higher quality in Europe, so it is not entirely image/marketing. Personally I used to wear 501s a lot before moving on to more exotic brands. Levi's made in Poland were among the best and most durable pants I have owned. In contrast, the 501s I got from the US (not made in US, mind you - I think made in Egypt or Mexico) were a lot more affordable, but they literally fell apart after at most half a year, cheap trash.

Maybe it is all the same now. Though I would hope that the special made-in-USA stuff (Levi's Vintage Collection etc.) is still good. But that is something the average jeans buyer does not know about, and probably would not be willing to pay for anyway.

Not at all. (Which I'm not sure how you're able to differentiate "bent outa"of shape over text on an Internet forum). I'm simply correcting your misconceptions and you're insinuated assertions. Thanks for the discussion though.

I'd love a Z8 (I currently have an E21, E34 Touring and E85) but I'd take a normal one, I wouldn't pay more for this one just because Steve Jobs drove one. Nigel Mansell or someone -maybe- as their fame is around cars, but Steve? No.

Motorola StarTac was my first cell phone when I was a freshman in high school! Only had it for a little bit, then moved to the Nextel network and had a Motorola i1000...that thing was a beast, but push to talk was awesome! I went on to own tons of Nextel branded Motorola phones. Still have them actually.

Oh, touché.

It's called provenance and is crucial in the valuation of objects:

Sure, but having a professional term for it does not make it any more rational in cases like this, where it is not about tracing back whether a piece of art is an original or similar. Here people (some of them) are irrationally obsessed with obtaining mass-produced items of a certain provenance, even though there are thousands like it that only differ in having a different ownership history. So I would agree with H2SO4's assessment, but I am not bothered by this story - I have made my share of irrational purchases myself. :)

I see no reason to pay that amount of money when Z8's go around for much less than that (Autotrader similar mileage/year for $230k). People just are gullible.

I can't imagine that anyone would buy this car solely as a means of conveyance. They're probably interested in driving it because Steve Jobs owned it or, more likely, because they think it'll appreciate in value because of that connection. Like it or not, even otherwise mundane items are often more valuable when they've been used or possessed by famous or infamous people.

Also sounds like a Seinfeld episode a la Jon Voight.

The Z8 is one of those cars which at that price, regardless of Jobs, is not a bad investment. It didn't get rave reviews when released and struggled to find an audience in some ways, but has matured nicely and its reputation has grown, especially given where the industry finds itself now.
