are you implying coming away from os x and more towards windows?
A

Perhaps he means it's nice to see more support from Apple for people being free to choose their own OS usage, and not subjecting them to silly vendor lock in.

Not everyone has to be either for Apple or for Microsoft.

Call me crazy but wasn't half this stuff in the last update to Boot Camp. I mean, I know iSight support is not new. What kind of improvements did they make?

That would be an XP issue rather than a Bootcamp issue.
Have you ever gotten XP to boot off of a USB harddisk even under a regular PC (Without substantial hacks and replacing the kernel with the one from WinPE of course)?

All that time on a Mac has gotten you accustomed to unrealistic expectations.

Looks like a pretty nice update. From TUAW:

The Apple USB Modem now works correctly
Trackpad scrolling and right-click gestures work correctly
Fixed idle sleep bugs
Reduced dialogs during Windows driver installation
Improved international support
Improved 802.11 wireless networking support

so you still can't install XP on an external USB or Firewire drive tho, right?

There is a Macrumors guide on how to do this. But it involves patching the windows installation CD. A new bootcamp probably couldn't ease this, because windows is not really desinged to be installed on an external drive and needs some extra work.

Has anyone had any problems with the mac side after you install boot camp? My windows is fine. but then once I get back over to the mac side, my preferneces were lost.. This happened in the beginning.. It hasn't happened for a couple of days.. but.. thought I could ask.. I just don't want to go along and make some changes to my preferences (e.g. in safari) and then when I reboot in they're gone..

I haven't had that specific issue, but my clock does wig out and requires re-setting. Also, the wireless access point has to be reaquired manually sometimes.

Perhaps it's an improvement to the quality of the camera signal. iSight under Windows doesn't look as good to me. Maybe that just my Busheque Apple biase showing through.

This couldn't have come at a better time as i was planning to install XP today anyways.

Anyone have a link to all the Keyboard shortcuts used in XP...like how to right click, scroll etc?

-Support for built-in iSight cameras
-Support for built-in microphones

Doesn't Boot Camp already have these? I can record using my iSight while booted in Windows just fine...and I just tested the mic, works too.

What problem is that? The card won't work on that display? I'm about to buy 8-core MP with the 1900XT card. XP won't work?

About to buy a MP 8 core? Yeah... whatever. Hope you don't hold your breath. Anyhow...

The 23" ACD isn't supported by Windows during boot so the screen is dark because it's not supported by the bios. If you have a CRT or Windows supported LCD, you can see the boot sequence. No big deal. Who wants to watch Windows load anyhow? The only problem is trying to install Windows without a monitor that is able to read the video signal. It's sort of hard to know when to initiate the prompts when you can't see them eh? The solution is if you have another monitor instead of the ACD during installation. It's only an issue if you don't own anything else. Once you have Windows installed, go to ATI's website and download the Catalyst driver. Or go to Iomega and use theirs. I heard that one is supposed to be faster... don't know why. There is also another driver available called WinACD that works great. Once you have the drivers installed, the ACD works great. In some ways it's even better because the drivers are better! The only caveat is that the ACD stays dark during boot. Once Windows loads, the desktop shows at the same time as the start-up chime. I'm using the ATI catalyst driver with no problems.

Again, the only issues are during install and not being able to view Windows boot sequence. Other than that, it works great. The other poster who wrote that he was having trouble probably didn't install the correct drivers.

I have that setup and sometimes when I boot into XP I get a black screen. No display. If I boot a few more times I usually get a display. So the card and the ACD (23") are a little wonky.

You need to install the Windows driver. Try using ATI Catalyst driver or WinACD driver. I have the same setup as you and no problems. Windows actually runs some of my applications faster than in OS X!

Make sure to disconnect any FW drives (external), etc. before booting into XP.

Why? I've got two external FW drives running off mine along with a keychain device and have no problems. The FW drives don't mount in Windows, but I don't have to worry about turning off the drives when I boot into it. The keychain drive mounts on both OS X and Windows.

What I was hoping for was better driver support for Apple bluetooth keyboard. I have to manually turn mine off and then back on again everytime I boot into Windows. It's a minor hassle that's only irriating whenever I forget to do it. Sometime I'll start typing and then realize I need to reinitialize the keyboard.

I'm curious how this update is going to help me. I have current drivers on the Windows. By downloading the newest update to Bootcamp, how is that going to help if everything already works great (with the exception of my keyboard). I read the list of features supported, but everything on the list already work on my setup. So, why bother with the update? Stablity? Anyone know?

the microphone and iSight worked for me before too, though arguably didn't look as nice as OSX makes iSight.

Downloading. but I really can't see anything new here.

can't right click anymore!

anyone knows how to set up the right click on the trackpad on a macbook? Earlier it worked with the right command key and click, but that doesn't work anymore. I don't seem to have a right click on my mac when I run windows!!
Also scroll? I can't seem to find an option to do that either!
Help!

Parallels is better

Paralells (build 1940) you can switch back and forth seamlessly. It's worth it.

1.1.2??? back to that huh.... why can't everyone have a freakin simple numbering system...either realease it as 1.2, or wait till it is 1.2 quality... what exactly is so much better that we didn't have before???

Anyone know if this fixes the problems with RAID1 boot volumes not showing up in the Windows 'Startup Disk' control panel?

It's not a major issue unless you only have a BT keyboard, which can't be used to bring up the selector at boot time.

Same here. I still have a Windows partition on my hard drive but it has been a long time since I've booted up in Windows. I've been able to do everything I've needed to do in Parallels.

What are some of the reasons one would still need to use Boot Camp? Is it simply because it's free and Parallels isn't? Or are there some technical advantages to booting up directly into Windows?
