My home theater destroys anything like this and the receiver supports AirPlay 2. These are gimmicks for people who know nothing about audio, have no space, and/or see too lazy to have a proper home theater setup.
Too lazy? Consider that others have different priorities than you - it's not that they are too lazy, it's that wall-crushing surround sound and rocket launches at realistic volume, isn't a priority for them - you're not winning the race if the others aren't racing. I've had some very nice hifi systems in the past (e.g. B&W & NAD), and am well acquainted with high-end audio, but I currently have Sonos in my living room. It's partly a matter of space, but also convenience - with Sonos, it Just Works (to borrow an Apple phrase).

So does home theater. If you had any experience, loud doesn’t mean good or bad. It doesn’t have to be loud to sound great and infinitely better than a joke Sonos speaker.

You set up a HT once and it works perfectly with AirPlay too.

My soundlink mini I is still holding up tho...
[doublepost=1566739987][/doublepost]As is mine and during that time we’ve also invested in Sonos around the home , their offering is coming out soon so will be giving that a closer look .

My old Soundlink II is still going strong; and with an Airport Extreme [Gen-5 (n)] the old pair of M-Audio Bx5a speakers are good airplay setup though require wall outlet... but the performance is quite punchy compared to any protable I've heard. I like Sonos.

Decent audio in the living room (Marantz and Dali), but for kitchen and bedroom these are nice speakers and good enough.
I brought it up because I run my family room tv audio through my Denon stereo with Polk speakers. No sound bar. For my bedroom I use a HomePod and may get a second one for stereo. Both are huge improvements over base tv audio. The stereo has a slight edge over the HomePod but the edge isn’t as big as the difference between the HomePod and tv alone. Just curious if many people think good enough. Especially if you have limited space.

You'd be better served with a dedicated soundbar for TV applications. Some even have pseudo surround. You can get it cheaper than two HomePods as well.

True but I use the HomePod for more than just AppleTV audio and I'm happy with the sound from my Denon receiver with Polk speakers in the family room. Sure it would be nice to have voices coming more from the TV location (in the family room) than a foot on either side of it but nobody has been able to overcome the physics of speaker size when it comes to the lower mid range frequencies. I considered getting a sub woofer but I don't watch enough tv where it would be worth it to me. Maybe in the winter when I'm inside more.

Looks like they've removed the aux support. I wanted it for portability and for connecting it to a macbook pro on the go. It's an useless piece of trash now. Airplay 2 still lags
