There are not that many Apple stores to be honest. The chunk being sold in Apple stores would have been minimum, and that is based on how rare apple stores are outside of the US.

Bose does not need Apple stores. I would argue that Apple needs Bose to have some perceived quality Audio for thier range. Removing Bose and having Beats as a replacement would not have gone down well with the "older" customers with money to burn.

Was a tandrum move by Apple by the looks of it. And now they have calmed down and everything is back to normal.

And someone, once said "think different"....... times have changed, we must obey!

Apple needs bose. Lol I see you've bought into the better sound through marketing hype.

Anyone looking for quality speakers isn't shopping the Apple Store.

Neither one.... If you're spending that much money on speakers, buy Sonos, period. Granted, they don't make headphones, yet, but any speaker purchase for that much money, Sonos all the way.

Sonos? The cheap company that won't even enable DTS? Screw them.

Can you quote someone who said both or is this usual pathetic BS?

people LOOOOVE to apply their perceptions of things to the actions of others. usually it's the other way around, but not in apple threads.

Isn't that what I just said?

My point was, Beats are "trendy" and get purchased for reasons other than the sound quality. So I think we actually agree on that.

Subjectively though? I really don't get the "headphones as fashion accessory" mentality at all. Clearly, it exists and the good sales testify to it. I just don't see a pair of headphones as something that really makes a person look more stylish. You put them on because you want to listen to music, presumably. (Otherwise, why not just wear a pair of Beats around with nothing attached to them?)

I think you are missing the point with the Beats brand. They aren't super focused on the best sounding headphones/speakers, they focus on stylish designs. The headphones and speakers are basically fashion accessories now. You could put any speaker in the Apple store you want but most folks will walk out with Beats regardless of sound quality.

This is truly a case where the best quality product isn't always the winner sales wise.

I bought one for my son in high school and he wears them around school and to his ball games like a necklace. I imagine these kids see it as a status symbol type thing.

Most folks aren't audiophiles and can't tell the difference between one set or the other, They just know they can hear the music.

FYI, I just bought a set of Beat Solo 2 for $119 @ Amazon during the Black Friday deals. That price is about right in my mind.

If Bose and Beats are overpriced and overrated, what are the better audio brands?

It would be awesome if they carried Sennheiser, Grado, Shure, Beyerdynamic, and Audio Technica headphones as well.

Agree to disagree.

re: Beats, etc.

Yeah.... I get the "status symbol" thing. But it's still kind of pointless, in my opinion. Of course, I suppose one could argue that ALL fashion is pointless? After all, the logical thing is to buy only the clothes that are the cheapest while having as good of quality as possible so they last a long time. Selecting clothes at premium prices just due to designer tags on them is pretty illogical.

I disagree, though, that most kids couldn't tell the difference in sound quality between different pairs of headphones. Some might claim not to CARE enough to try. But unless you have actual hearing loss, you should be able to compare the same piece of music on multiple headsets or pairs of speakers and hear differences.

I'm not really talking about the audiophiles who get picky about VERY minor details. I mean, there are often very noticeable differences in the overall character of the sound... Like one pair will have a muddy sound to everything, while another might sound extremely "bright" and kind of harsh to the ears. When comparing better quality speakers side-by-side, you might be down to just noticing you hear more details -- like an instrument getting played quietly in the background of a track that you never noticed was there on the other ones.

I'm no audiophile but I do enjoy music and used to play in a band for a little while, years ago. So I feel like within reason (reasonable price, etc.), it makes sense to strive for the best sound reproduction you can buy, when buying new speakers or headsets. Poor sound gives me ear fatigue after a while and I can't keep listening for too long at a time.

From everything I've read though? The Solo II is actually the best headset Beats produces.... so reasonably good sound quality from it compared to many older products of theirs. Especially at a sale price, you probably did ok with that one.

link? I'm always willing to try new things.

ll the new Sony portable speakers are pretty good. They jumped up in quality from the last generation. got the 300.00 model for my wife last year for Christmas and the 200.00 model (next one down) sounds better. so far the 300.00 model is about the best we have heard in that price range.
they are all at best buy so hopefully they are working and you can test them. They are the rectangle ones with all the controls grouped together on top. the 300.00 model has built in airplay. have listened or owned a bose 200.00 model several sony's the beats 350.00 one that got returned the big jambox. if you don't need portability harmon karden makes a pair of speakers that works with bluetooth or optical in or regular input that blows them all away for less.

Are you talking about the Sony SRSX7? If so I got that for $179 on Black Friday and it blows away the competition at that price and feature set (Airplay and Pandora). The X5 is going for $129 now.

You really want to go there? Ever even heard a good quality product before as it's clear as a whistle that both products/branders are inferior quality for a premium price.

For Starters:

Grado
Beyerdynamic
Audio Technica
Sennheiser
HiFiMAN
AKG
Denon
Fostex
B&W
Ultrasone
Stax
Shure
Audeze

I love that portable Bose speaker. Very compact, but packs a punch. You can spend less for louder speakers, but the quality is great with this one.

I agree. I bought the one shown and it sounds awesome. It does not meet the old-day comments about Bose. Not this one.

This could be something, however it is still not knwn as the cause as to why Bose products were pulled in the first place.

Leverage to settle the lawsuit is likely the reason. Think of all the sales and exposure that they lose by NOT being in Apple's stores or associated with them. That's leverage to play back for settlement. Guess what happened...they settled. That's likely one of leverage points Apple had when negotiating the deal with Beats. Let Apple help them make that issue go away.

that sounds right. we could not listen to it as the display was dead. so we found these and they are even better with much better separation. better base but they are not really portable. Apple did not have this model they are better then the models they do sell.

Bose needs Apple more than Apple needs Bose. Older crowds like the Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers are outnumbered by the Millennial generation who are coming into their own with a whole new set of values. That's the crowed everyone is after now.

It's only a matter of time before they remove all non-Apple products from their retail stores. Why waste valuable floor space on small margin third party accessories when they could make a range of their own accessories.

They already make cases and covers, with Beats they have a range of speakers and headphones. The Apple Watch will take up a whole table next year and the multitude of straps available will need prime place on the shelves.

Shift all the third party accessories to their online store.
There's no need to do that. The stores are pretty spartan, they could easily make room for a table of watches without getting rid of third party accessories. Those accessories aren't just there for the margins, they're there to give people one more reason to enter the store. I've already seen everything Apple has to offer, but I still stop by the store whenever I'm in the mall just to see which new third party programs and accessories they might have.

That never happened. Way to keep believing in whatever you believe in.

In fact, during this dispute I bought a pair of the QC25 noise canceling Bose headphones. I own Apple products. Does that blow your mind?
I must be on the wrong forum then, or I'm holding my iPad wrong.

Go back and read what happened on this forum when Apple kicked Bose out, try it without your Apple glasses.

The Bran

The Beats brand was cool before Apple bought them, now I don't want to wear them. Apple should have silently done it, giving the impression that Beats was independent from Apple. Just my thoughts.

I was unaware that Apple sold Samsung products. TV's and such?
Samsung Products are in just about every iDevice and Mac ...all sold by Apple.

What's that you say "Street cred is more important than product quality"? :D

I never though the quality was worth the premium - you're supposed to judge Headphones on Audio\build quality you know - and I won't buy them just because Apple thought they were worth $3billion ...suckers.

Bose is the better of the two and Sennheiser trumps Bose IMO.

Components. The word you're looking for is components. As in Samsung components are in....
Samsung products and Samsung components aren't interchangeable terms. They mean different things, but I am sure you already know that.
Products as in "Produced" by Samsung.
