Are you kidding me? Can't believe people do this. Do you do this with everything you buy?

For a $700 item, heck yeah. It's one thing to get a ding, dent, scratch the next day. But when I pull something out of the box it had better be perfect. If you settle for anything less your foolish. The wear isn't good, but I don't agree with returning for that reason. It's just a downside to the tech they are using. But when it comes out of the box it had better be perfect.

The issues being talked about are minor. They are people who read up on how lenient apple is in regards to returns and take it to the extreme. A piece of dust here in this angle in the light...nope gotta return it. The home button slightly shifts when i try and make it shift...nope gotta return it.

Seriously, do you do this with any other company to this level? I would wager no

You'd wager wrong for an item of that amount. A $700 watch with a scratch, nope. A $700 receiver with a scratch, nope. A $700 TV with a scratch, nope. A $20 bluetooth with a wobbly button, no big deal. It's not Apple, it's the amount of money the product costs. Maybe $700 isn't a big deal to you but I'd wager for the majority of folks on here it is.

who spends 700? not many...Most get iphones from free to 400 since the vast majority get it subsidized

I frequent other tech forums and it is literally only Apple products where users go to the extreme with returns over what I argue, very minor issues.

The issues we talk about here that people are exchanging for are those that require a microscope in many cases or intense observation looking for defects. Most people don't inspect their phone to that degree and it works just fine.

I have a coworker who has a 4S and a slew of iPads. Always making comments about my Macs (PowerBooks) which I bring to work because they are 10 and 7 years old respectively.

I upgraded to my iPhone 5 six months ago and just like my last phone it's on prominent display at work (I use it as a desktop clock).

I haven't heard ONE WORD from her about anything in the last six months.

Just saying…

Does she talk ish?

I wouldn't pay $700 for a scratched watch.

Nor would I pay $200 for a scratched watch.

No. At least nothing you could call her on. It's all implied. Tone and context. And her actions.

Three years ago I bought a second PowerBook G4 because the screen on my other one went wonky. Later on I fixed the older one and began to carry both PBs in to work. She commented that I had two of the same Macs (both aluminum, 17"). Wasn't the words, but the tone implied that I was an idiot for carrying around two laptops, that I was being a showoff for doing so and that since they were older PowerBooks and NOT MBPs they were inferior.

She began to tell me all about her iPads and made a great show of her iPhone 4s. Bringing it out, putting it away, doing things with it, etc. Especially so when my old HTC Touch Pro was hooked up and showing the clock. All of that stopped dead when I brought in my i5 and she hasn't said a word or done a thing since. :)

I don't think you get how contracts and monthly payments work...... Do you think you get free iPhones out of the goodness of the hearts of the telcos?

Exactly. After everything is said and done, you're paying the same as retail or even more...

Anybody who says they don't care about their $700 gadget being all scratched up OUT OF THE BOX is either unspeakably rich, dumb, or just says it because they are trying to make themselves feel better about having a scratched up piece of expensive equipment.

Haha nice bro atta way to do it

Yeah... that's why I got a case for it before I even opened the box.

Apple themselves advertise that their stuff is the closest to perfection. they willingly say that their manufacturing process is superior "down to the micron" precision, etc.
Yeah we all know it's marketing, but if you pay $700 for a phone that's $200 more than any other comparable phone, it is within reason for people to hold Apple to a higher standard. The price justifies it and Apple themselves advertise it, and they cater to the upscale market.
No one would fault a luxury car buyer for being pickier, nor would they fault a luxury buyer of clothes for wanting a higher standard of craftsmanship.

She sounds like a massive cock.

... and it took three phones before the black metal was perfect.

Even then, I get the phone in the daylight and then more become apparent.

I thought this **** would be sorted by now. Apple has lost it.

Thanks for letting us know... I was wondering about it.

Went to the genius bar because iPhone had dust inside the camera and was effecting picture quality. In my case, the genius opened 3 phones (all of them had various damage) until he finally said he could no longer open any more. I paid over $700 for this phone, so I wasn't going to settle for one with dents or scratches on it. I called a manager over and we went through 7 before she stopped me. I chose the least damage one which still had a couple nicks on it (not too bad). So in the end, it is not easy to get a perfect iPhone 5.
She should of stopped you at 2. Not happy get your money back and move on to another device.

Of course I get how they work. Most people however stay with AT&T or whatnot years on end and pay the same no matter if on contract or not so these subsidies are "gifts" more or less

I use prepaid as I didn't want to pay the same rate off contract as I did on.

So yes, most people pay the subsidy and that is what the cost is to them as contract or not, they are still paying the high rates AT&T has

No, what I am saying is that apple users get unbelievable anal over such minute issues with their phones that seems to only be present with apple products and nothing else they buy

Do these same people go through 6 video game consoles, digital cameras, vehicles, etc? Of course not. But with apple, they have no issue because of their very lenient return policy....so they abuse the heck out of it

You should work for Apple in iPhone QC. You gotta show 'em how it's done!

yay iphone... HUZZAHHHH

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet here you are, posting in a thread you care not to care about.

Exactly this. Had I not known about the issue, I wouldn't have checked. I just thought that Apple would have ironed this out by now. Maybe they're not that fussed.

Phone one had three chips. Phone two had a really poor finish around each of the bands and phone three had a sharp scratch near the power button.

Sorry for expecting a £599 item to be perfect out of the box - pretty much every other iPhone I've had was.

Are you kidding me? Can't believe people do this. Do you do this with everything you buy?

No. With the 4S I had no issue with this. I use my phone for the most part in a case, and dents and large scuffs on the back and sides would effect the resale value when the time comes for me to upgrade to the 5S.

Wait, she has a bunch of iPads but not the latest iPhone? Uh...

When I bring my 2006 MacBook to school, people complain that it's old and beaten up (was given to me for free because it was damaged). I just had to replace the hard drive to get a decent laptop. I don't understand why they even care, and it's more than good enough for what I need it for. If it breaks, it's $43 down the drain, not $2000 like other kids' MacBook Pro Retinas. And some fool DID break a rMBP by leaving it on top of the car by accident then driving off.

However, it was rightfully called a "ghetto laptop" back when I used a flash drive as a bootup disk before I had my new HDD shipped.
