Wait, she has a bunch of iPads but not the latest iPhone? Uh...

When I bring my 2006 MacBook to school, people complain that it's old and beaten up (was given to me for free because it was damaged). I just had to replace the hard drive to get a decent laptop. I don't understand why they even care, and it's more than good enough for what I need it for. If it breaks, it's $43 down the drain, not $2000 like other kids' MacBook Pro Retinas. And some fool DID break a rMBP by leaving it on top of the car by accident then driving off.

However, it was rightfully called a "ghetto laptop" back when I used a flash drive as a bootup disk before I had my new HDD shipped.
Yeah, she has a bunch of iPads. But I don't. And she knows that. The iPhone 5 is the first Apple product I have that's recent. My youngest PowerBook was built in late 2006. So, even if her bunch of iPads were the original or the iPad 2 or 3 she was still "better" than me because I didn't even have that - up until late last year when I got my i5.

It's not that I cared, because I love my PBs and they do everything I need/ask of them (within their limits). I just found it very interesting that when I brought my iPhone 5 in the first time, nary a word was said and all actions ceased.

If she's operating on a mine is better than yours attitude (which she is, but I'm not), I just topped her and shut her up.

Ultimately, my point in bringing that up in my initial reponse to the poster who likes the iPhone 4S better is that it's all personal opinion.

I'm not surprised you were called that. I mean.. HDD? So 2008....

On a serious note my laptops are an old 17" g4 and a pristine condition 2007 white macbook. Nothing ghetto about old tech at all.

A PowerBook is a computer where as the ipad is a tablet. You seem fairly techie and should have just explained how you can do everything and more on your 7 year old laptop than she can on her new ipad...

Dunno, my wifes iPhone 5 has been perfect (original from release and the warrantied one from the store (had wifi issues).

Been enclosed in an Otterbox defender since day 1

My launch day black 32g was perfect out of the box, and is still absolutely flawless today. I have a thin PT case similar to the incase slider, and no screen protector. I've dropped it about 6 times, and I don't baby it. I do however, take it out of the case every couple weeks and wipe it down with a high end aquarium glass cleaner. No nicks, dents, bends, or scratches.

My launch day iPhone was flawless. Had to get it replaced a few weeks ago because the lock button stopped working and my replacement was also flawless.

Uhhh, no, it wasn't, I purchased my Rev 1 MBP in early 2006, PowerBooks certainly weren't still being manufactured in late 2006.

post a pic of her
And violate her privacy, open myself and my boss up to a suit and get myself fired. No thanks!

You're right, my mistake. I just checked and my PowerBook was made in March and the line (17" DLSD) was discontinued in April. I don't know why I was thinking November 2006.

Thanks for the fact check!

... and it took three phones before the black metal was perfect.

Even then, I get the phone in the daylight and then more become apparent.

I thought this **** would be sorted by now. Apple has lost it.

I had this with my Black IP5, finally 3rd was nice looking and LTE and WiFi worked, my son is now going thru the WiFi hw issue on his White one, so some things are not just on the black phone.

It's not that we feel like $700 is nothing, but sometimes you just know it's a waste of time. After reading on these forums I knew to expect that the aluminum body wasn't that scratch resistant.

So when I bought my iPhone 5 at full retail price, for $916 after tax, I looked at it. There were two scratches by the volume buttons where all of the black anodized aluminum was completely missing.

Did I care? Of course I cared because it's a brand new phone and it automatically drops resale value because not every person willing to buy the phone later on will understand how easy it can be to scratch the aluminum.

But was it a big enough deal to waste more of my time and the apple store employees time asking for replacement after replacement until I found a damn near perfect one? Absolutely not.

Everything else was just fine on it and I knew I was going to be putting a bumper on it anyway that would cover up the volume buttons and probably eventually put a small scratch in the vicinity of the buttons sometime anyway.

I really do think some people take it too far. I did this with the speck candyshell case when I had my iPhone 3GS. The back kept scratching and rubber kept peeling on it. So I kept getting exchanges at the AT&T store for it. After about five exchanges I realized how ridiculous I was being. Something that's being used constantly everyday you can't expect to stay in perfect condition.

I understand you guys want your phones in perfect condition when you first buy them, but how many of them are honestly still going to be in perfect condition when you turn around a year or two later to sell them? You're not using them in a plastic bubble. Something is bound to happen. Whether it's the smallest scratch or a cracked glass. Even the most careful people have accidents. These little tiny scratches on the aluminum just are not worth getting all worked up over.

I've had mine for a couple of months and I haven't looked at the body yet... it's been in a case the whole time. The screen is great, that's all I care about.

To people who say the 5 feels cheap, give it a couple of weeks... my old 4 feels way too bulky and heavy now. It's all what you're used to.

You'd wager wrong for an item of that amount. A $700 watch with a scratch, nope. A $700 receiver with a scratch, nope. A $700 TV with a scratch, nope. A $20 bluetooth with a wobbly button, no big deal. It's not Apple, it's the amount of money the product costs. Maybe $700 isn't a big deal to you but I'd wager for the majority of folks on here it is.

Can I ask.. If you bought an $80,000 car fresh off the line and there was a small scratch, would you keep returning?
